bāṇo 'pi praṇipatyāgre maitreyāha trilocanam deva bāhusahasreṇa nirviṇṇo 'haṃ vināhavam ||
The arrow, bowing down before Maitreya, said to Trilocana, 'O God, I am weary without the battle of a thousand arms.'

kaccin mamaiṣāṃ bāhūnāṃ sāphalyajanako raṇaḥ bhaviṣyati vinā yuddhaṃ bhārāya mama kiṃ bhujaiḥ ||
Will there be a battle that brings success to my arms, or what use are my arms without a fight?

mayūradhvajabhaṅgas te yadā bāṇa bhaviṣyati piśitāśijanānandaṃ prāpsyase tvaṃ tadā raṇam ||
When your peacock-banner is broken, then you will attain the joy of flesh-eating beings; then, O warrior, there will be battle.

tataḥ praṇamya muditaḥ śambhum abhyāgato gṛham bhagnaṃ ca dhvajam ālokya hṛṣṭo harṣāntaraṃ yayau ||
Then, bowing down joyfully, he went to the home of Shambhu, having seen the broken flag, and filled with delight, he departed with great joy.

At that very time, by the power of yogic knowledge, the celestial maiden Chitralekha took Aniruddha away.

kanyāntaḥpuramadhye taṃ ramamāṇaṃ sahoṣayā vijñāya rakṣiṇo gatvā śaśaṃsur daityabhūpateḥ ||
In the inner quarters of the maiden, knowing him to be enjoying with her, the protectors went and praised the demon king.

vyādiṣṭaṃ kiṃkarāṇāṃ tu sainyaṃ tena mahātmanā jaghāna parighaṃ loham ādāya paravīrahā ||
The great soul commanded his servants to attack, and they struck down the iron bar, killing the enemy warriors.

hateṣu teṣu bāṇo 'pi rathasthas tadvadhodyataḥ yudhyamāno yathāśakti yadā vīryeṇa nirjitaḥ ||
While being attacked, even the arrows from the chariot were being shot, and he fought with all his might when he was defeated in valor.

māyayā yuyudhe tena sa tadā mantricoditaḥ tatas taṃ pannagāstreṇa babandha yadunandanam ||
By illusion, he fought; then, urged by the sage, he bound the son of Yadu with the serpent weapon.

dvāravatyāṃ kva yāto 'sāv aniruddheti jalpatām yadūnām ācacakṣe taṃ baddhaṃ bāṇena nāradaḥ ||
In Dwaraka, where did he go, they spoke of Aniruddha; Narada saw him bound by an arrow.

taṃ śoṇitapure śrutvā nītaṃ vidyāvidagdhayā yoṣitā pratyayaṃ jagmur yādavā nāmarair iti ||
Hearing of him being taken to Shonitapura, the wise women of the Yadavas went with certainty, saying his name.

tato garuḍam āruhya smṛtamātrāgataṃ hariḥ balapradyumnasahito bāṇasya prayayau puram ||
Then, mounting Garuda, Hari, who had just been remembered, along with Balapradumna, went to the city.

purīpraveśe pramathair yuddham āsīn mahātmanaḥ yayau bāṇapurābhyāśaṃ nītvā tān saṃkṣayaṃ hariḥ ||
Upon entering the city, the great soul engaged in battle with the demons; Hari went to destroy them, having taken Baanapura.

tatas tripādas triśirā jvaro māheśvaro mahān bāṇarakṣārtham atyarthaṃ yuyudhe śārṅgadhanvanā ||
Then the great Maheshvara, with three heads and three feet, fought fiercely with the bow Sharanga to protect the monkeys.

tadbhasmasparśasaṃbhūtatāpaḥ kṛṣṇāṅgasaṃgamāt avāpa baladevo 'pi śramam āmīlitekṣaṇaḥ ||
From the touch of that ash-born heat, Baladeva also became fatigued upon merging with Krishna's body.

tataḥ sa yuddhyamānas tu sahadevena śārṅgiṇā vaiṣṇavena jvareṇāśu kṛṣṇadehān nirākṛtaḥ ||
Then, while engaged in battle, Sahadeva, with the bow Sharanga, quickly dispelled the fever from Krishna's body.

nārāyaṇabhujāghātaparipīḍanavihvalam taṃ vīkṣya kṣamyatām asyety āha devaḥ pitāmahaḥ ||
Seeing Narayana being tormented by the blow to his arm, the divine grandfather spoke: 'Let him be forgiven.'

tataś ca kṣāntam eveti proktvā taṃ vaiṣṇavaṃ jvaram ātmany eva layaṃ ninye bhagavān madhusūdanaḥ ||
Then, having declared 'He is pacified,' the Lord Madhusudana absorbed that Vaishnava fever into Himself.

मम त्वया समं युद्धं ये स्मरिष्यन्ति मानवाः विज्वरास ते भविष्यन्तीत्य उक्त्वा चैनं ययौ ज्वरः ।।
mama tvayā samaṃ yuddhaṃ ye smariṣyanti mānavāḥ vijvarās te bhaviṣyantīty uktvā cainaṃ yayau jvaraḥ ||
Those who remember the battle with you, O Lord, will surely suffer from fever.

tato 'gnīn bhagavān pañca jitvā nītvā tathā kṣayam dānavānāṃ balaṃ viṣṇuś cūrṇayām āsa līlayā ||
Then the Lord, having defeated five fires and taken them, destroyed the strength of the demons with his playful might.

tataḥ samastasainyena daiteyānāṃ baleḥ sutaḥ yuyudhe śaṃkaraś caiva kārtikeyaś ca śauriṇā ||
Then, with the entire army of the demons, the son of Bali fought, along with Shankara and Kartikeya, the valiant one.

hariśaṃkarayor yuddham atīvāsīt sudāruṇam cukṣubhuḥ sakalā lokāḥ yatrāstrāṃśupratāpitāḥ ||
The battle between Hari and Shankara was exceedingly fierce, causing all worlds to tremble with the power of the weapons.

pralayo 'yam aśeṣasya jagato nūnam āgataḥ menire tridaśā yatra vartamāne mahāhave ||
This is indeed the destruction of the entire universe, as the celestial beings lamented while the great battle was ongoing.

जृम्भणास्त्रेण गोविन्दो जृम्भयाम आस शंकरम ततः प्रणेशुर दैतेयाः प्रमथाश च समन्ततः ।।
jṛmbhaṇāstreṇa govindo jṛmbhayām āsa śaṃkaram tataḥ praṇeśur daiteyāḥ pramathāś ca samantataḥ ||
With the jṛmbhaṇa weapon, Govinda awakened Shankara. Then, the Daityas and the Pramathas approached from all sides.

jṛmbhābhibhūtas tu haro rathopastha upāviśat na śaśāka tadā yoddhuṃ kṛṣṇenākliṣṭakarmaṇā ||
But the Lord, overwhelmed by the jṛmbha, sat on his chariot and could not fight with Krishna, who performed unblemished deeds.

garuḍakṣatavāhaś ca pradyumnāstranipīḍitaḥ kṛṣṇahuṃkāranirdhūtaśaktiś cāpayayau guhaḥ ||
The one who rides Garuda, afflicted by Pradyumna's weapon, was shaken by Krishna's roar, and he fell down.

jṛmbhite śaṃkare naṣṭe daityasainye guhe jite nīte pramathasainye ca saṃkṣayaṃ śārṅgadhanvanā ||
When Shankara was awakened and the Daitya army was destroyed, the Pramatha army was led to destruction by the Sharanga bow.

nandīśasaṃgṛhītāśvam adhirūḍho mahāratham bāṇas tatrāyayau yoddhuṃ kṛṣṇakārṣṇibalaiḥ saha ||
Riding the horse seized by Nandi, the great chariot warrior arrived there to fight alongside Krishna and the Kauravas.

बलभद्रो महावीर्यो बाणसैन्यम अनेकधा विव्याध बाणैः प्रभ्रश्य धर्मतश चापलायत ।।
balabhadro mahāvīryo bāṇasainyam anekadhā vivyādha bāṇaiḥ prabhraśya dharmataś cāpalāyata ||
Balabhadra, the great hero, shot arrows in various ways, striking the enemy and causing them to falter in righteousness.

आकृष्य लाङ्गलाग्रेण मुसलेनावपोथितम बलं बलेन ददृशे बाणो बाणैश च चक्रिणा ।।
ākṛṣya lāṅgalāgreṇa musalenāvapothitam balaṃ balena dadṛśe bāṇo bāṇaiś ca cakriṇā ||
Pulling with the plow's tip and crushing with a pestle, the strength was seen by the arrow, which was shot by the arrow and the wheel.

parasparam iṣūn dīptān kāyatrāṇavibhedakān kṛṣṇaś ciccheda bāṇais tān bāṇena prahitān śarān bibheda keśavaṃ bāṇo bāṇaṃ vivyādha cakrabhṛt ||
The arrows, glowing and piercing through bodies, were cut by Krishna's arrows, which struck those arrows sent forth by the wheel.

mumucāte tathāstrāṇi bāṇakṛṣṇau jigīṣayā parasparaṃ kṣatiparau paramāmarṣiṇau dvija ||
Thus, they released the weapons, desiring to conquer Krishna, and were deeply enraged with each other.

chidyamāneṣv aśeṣeṣu śareṣv astre ca sīdati prācuryeṇa harir bāṇaṃ hantuṃ cakre tato manaḥ ||
When the arrows are being shot, the Lord Hari, with abundance, focused his mind to destroy the arrows.

tato 'rkaśatasaṃghātatejasaḥ sadṛśadyutiḥ jagrāha daityacakrārir hariś cakraṃ sudarśanam ||
Then, resembling the brilliance of the sun's mass, he seized the Sudarshana discus of Hari, the enemy of the demons.

muñcato bāṇanāśāya tac cakraṃ madhuvidviṣaḥ nagnā daiteyavidyābhūt koṭavī purato hareḥ ||
When released to destroy the arrows, that discus of the enemy of Madhu appeared before Hari, naked and filled with demonic knowledge.

ताम अग्रतो हरिर दृष्ट्वा मीलिताक्षः सुदर्शनम मुमोच बाणम उद्दिश्य छेत्तुं बाहुवनं रिपोः ।।
tām agrato harir dṛṣṭvā mīlitākṣaḥ sudarśanam mumoca bāṇam uddiśya chettuṃ bāhuvanaṃ ripoḥ ||
Seeing it in front, Hari, with closed eyes, released an arrow aimed to cut down the enemy's arm.

krameṇa tat tu bāhūnāṃ bāṇasyācyutacoditam chedaṃ cakre 'surāpāstaśastraughakṣapaṇādṛtam ||
Gradually, as directed by the infallible, the cutting of the arrows was accomplished by the Sudarshana discus, which was filled with the fury of the demonic weapons.

When the arm is severed, O Madhusudana, the seeker desires to destroy the arrows of the Tripura enemy.

sa upetyāha govindaṃ sāmapūrvam umāpatiḥ vilokya bāṇaṃ dordaṇḍacchedāsṛksrāvavarṣiṇam ||
Approaching Govinda, Uma's lord spoke, observing the arrow that was shedding blood from the severed arm.

Krishna, Krishna, O Lord of the Universe, I know You, the Supreme Person, the Supreme Soul, the eternal and primordial.

In gods, animals, and humans, the essence of the body is characterized by Your playful activities, which are the signs of all beings.

तत प्रसीदाभयं दत्तं बाणस्यास्य मया प्रभो तत त्वया नानृतं कार्यं यन मया व्याहृतं वचः ।।
tat prasīdābhayaṃ dattaṃ bāṇasyāsya mayā prabho tat tvayā nānṛtaṃ kāryaṃ yan mayā vyāhṛtaṃ vacaḥ ||
Therefore, be gracious and grant me fearlessness, O Lord, regarding this arrow that I have spoken of; let it not be false.

अस्मत्संश्रयवृद्धो ऽयं नापराध्यस तवाव्यय मया दत्तवरो दैत्यस ततस त्वां क्षमयाम्य अहम ।।
asmatsaṃśrayavṛddho 'yaṃ nāparādhyas tavāvyaya mayā dattavaro daityas tatas tvāṃ kṣamayāmy aham ||
This one, who has grown in my refuge, is not an offender against your eternal nature. I, having given a boon to the demon, now forgive you.

इत्य उक्तः प्राह गोविन्दः शूलपाणिम उमापतिम प्रसन्नवदनो भूत्वा गतामर्षो ऽसुरं प्रति ।।
ity uktaḥ prāha govindaḥ śūlapāṇim umāpatim prasannavadano bhūtvā gatāmarṣo 'suraṃ prati ||
Thus addressed, Govinda spoke to Uma's consort, the one with the trident, his face brightened, and he became free from anger towards the demon.

युष्मद्दत्तवरो बाणो जीवताम एष शंकर त्वद्वाक्यगौरवाद एतन मया चक्रं निवर्तितम ।।
yuṣmaddattavaro bāṇo jīvatām eṣa śaṃkara tvadvākyagauravād etan mayā cakraṃ nivartitam ||
The arrow granted by you, let it live, O Shankara. Due to the weight of your words, I have turned this wheel.
Amsa 5 Chapter 33 Verse 47

त्वया यद अभयं दत्तं तद दत्तम अखिलं मया मत्तो ऽविभिन्नम आत्मानं द्रष्टुम अर्हसि शंकर ।।
tvayā yad abhayaṃ dattaṃ tad dattam akhilaṃ mayā matto 'vibhinnam ātmānaṃ draṣṭum arhasi śaṃkara ||
Whatever fear you have given, I have given it all completely. You should be able to see the non-different self from me, O Shankara.

यो ऽहं स त्वं जगच चेदं सदेवासुरमानुषम ।। अविद्यामोहितात्मानः पुरुषा भिन्नदर्शिनः ।।
yo 'haṃ sa tvaṃ jagac cedaṃ sadevāsuramānuṣam || avidyāmohitātmānaḥ puruṣā bhinnadarśinaḥ ||
I am that, and you are this world, which is both divine and demonic, and human. Those who are deluded by ignorance see the world as separate.

इत्य उक्त्वा प्रययौ कृष्णः प्राद्युम्निर यत्र तिष्ठति तद्बन्धफणिनो नेशुर गरुडानिलशोषिताः ।।
ity uktvā prayayau kṛṣṇaḥ prādyumnir yatra tiṣṭhati tadbandhaphaṇino neśur garuḍānilaśoṣitāḥ ||
Thus speaking, Krishna departed, where Pradyumna resides; the serpents bound by him were scorched by the wind of Garuda.

ततो ऽनिरुद्धम आरोप्य सपत्नीकं गरुत्मति आजग्मुर द्वारकां रामकार्ष्णिदामोदराः पुरीम ।।
tato 'niruddham āropya sapatnīkaṃ garutmati ājagmur dvārakāṃ rāmakārṣṇidāmodarāḥ purīm ||
Then, having lifted Aniruddha along with his wives, they arrived at the city of Dwaraka, along with Rama, Krishna, and Damodara.
