gate śakre tu gopālāḥ kṛṣṇam akliṣṭakāriṇam ūcuḥ prītyā dhṛtaṃ dṛṣṭvā tena govardhanācalam ||
When Indra had departed, the cowherds spoke to Krishna, who was performing his duties without fatigue, saying, 'Seeing this, we are pleased with you, for you have upheld Govardhana Hill.'

We, the fortunate ones, are protected by you from great fear, and the cows are also safeguarded by your act of holding the mountain.

This childhood play of yours, O Lord of the cows, is unparalleled and your divine deeds are to be revered. What is this, O father? Please explain.

kāliyo damitas toye pralambo vinipātitaḥ dhṛto govardhanaś cāyaṃ śaṅkitāni manāṃsi naḥ ||
Kaliya, subdued in the waters, and Pralamba, cast down, are held by Govardhana. May our minds be free from fear.

Truly, truly, we swear by the feet of Hari, the one of immeasurable prowess, that seeing your valor, we do not consider you a mere man.

O Keshava, the affection for the young gopas of Vraja is such that this task seems impossible even to all the gods.

Childhood, great strength, and birth are indeed glorious in us; Krishna grants us the doubt of the immeasurable soul.

devo vā dānavo vā tvaṃ yakṣo gandharva eva vā kiṃ vāsmākaṃ vicāreṇa bāndhavo 'si namo 'stu te ||
Whether a god or a demon, or a yaksha or a gandharva, who are you to us? We bow to you.

kṣaṇaṃ bhūtvā tv asau tūṣṇīṃ kiṃcit praṇayakopavān ity evam uktas tair gopaiḥ kṛṣṇo 'py āha mahāmune ||
Having become silent for a moment, he, being a little angry with love, thus addressed the great sage, Krishna, as spoken by the cowherds.

मत्संबन्धेन वो गोपा यदि लज्जा न जायते श्लाघ्यो वाहं ततः किं वो विचारेण प्रयोजनम ।।
matsaṃbandhena vo gopā yadi lajjā na jāyate ślāghyo vāhaṃ tataḥ kiṃ vo vicāreṇa prayojanam ||
O cowherds, if there is no shame in our relationship, then what is the use of considering me as praiseworthy?

yadi vo 'sti mayi prītiḥ ślāghyo 'haṃ bhavatāṃ yadi tadātmabandhusadṛśī buddhir vaḥ kriyatāṃ mayi ||
If you have affection for me, I am indeed praiseworthy; let your understanding be like that of a relative towards me.

nāhaṃ devo na gandharvo na yakṣo na ca dānavaḥ ahaṃ vo bāndhavo jāto naitac cintyam ato 'nyathā ||
I am neither a god, nor a celestial being, nor a yaksha, nor a demon; I am born as your relative, so do not think otherwise.

iti śrutvā harer vākyaṃ baddhamaunās tato vanam yayur gopā mahābhāga tasmin praṇayakopini ||
Hearing the words of Hari, the cowherds, being bound in silence, then went to the forest, O fortunate ones, in that state of love and anger.

kṛṣṇas tu vimalaṃ vyoma śaraccandrasya candrikām tathā kumudinīṃ phullām āmoditadigantarām ||
Krishna, the pure one, is like the moon in the autumn sky, illuminating the lotus that blooms in the night, bringing joy to the directions.

vanarājīṃ tathā kūjadbhṛṅgamālāmanoramām vilokya saha gopībhir manaś cakre ratiṃ prati ||
Seeing the forest queen and the charming buzzing of the bumblebees, the gopis felt their hearts filled with love.

Without Rama, the sweet and beloved of women, the hero sang the enchanting song, observing various vows.

ramyaṃ gītadhvaniṃ śrutvā saṃtyajyāvasathāṃs tadā ājagmus tvaritā gopyo yatrāste madhusūdanaḥ ||
Hearing the beautiful sound of the song, the gopis quickly left their resting place and hurried to where Madhusudana was.

Slowly, a certain gopi sang, following his rhythm, and she remembered him in her heart.

kācit kṛṣṇeti kṛṣṇeti proktvā lajjām upāyayau yayau ca kācit premāndhā tatpārśvam avilajjitā ||
A certain one, calling out 'Krishna, Krishna', felt shy and went away, while another, blinded by love, approached him without shame.

kācid āvasathasyāntaḥ sthitvā dṛṣṭvā bahir gurum tanmayatvena govindaṃ dadhyau mīlitalocanā ||
Standing inside a certain dwelling and seeing the guru outside, she, with closed eyes, meditated on Govinda with complete absorption.

That thought, filled with immense joy and diminished by the accumulation of merit, led to the attainment of great sorrow, erasing all sins.

Thinking of the creation of the world, the girl, who embodies the supreme reality, attained liberation through her unwavering breath.

The gopis and the group of Vrindavan, having taken the forms of Krishna's pastimes, wandered in the absence of Krishna.

I am Krishna; this is delightful. I shall go; let the path be seen. Another speaks; listen to my song about Krishna.

duṣṭa kāliya tiṣṭhātra kṛṣṇo 'ham iti cāparā bāhum āsphoṭya kṛṣṇasya līlāsarvasvam ādade ||
O wicked Kaliya, stay here; I am Krishna. Saying this, he seized the arm of Krishna and took all his pastimes.

anyā bravīti bho gopā niḥśaṅkaiḥ sthīyatām iha alaṃ vṛṣṭibhayenātra dhṛto govardhano mayā ||
Another speaks, 'O cowherds, let us stay here without fear; I have lifted Govardhana, free from the fear of rain.'

dhenuko 'yaṃ mayā kṣipto vicarantu yathecchayā gopī bravīti caivānyā kṛṣṇalīlānukāriṇī ||
This demon Dhenuka has been thrown by me; let him wander as he wishes. The gopi says, 'Another follows Krishna's pastimes.'

evaṃ nānāprakārāsu kṛṣṇaceṣṭāsu tās tadā gopyo vyagrāḥ samaṃ cerū ramyaṃ vṛndāvanaṃ vanam ||
Thus, the gopis were then engrossed in various pastimes of Krishna, and they wandered together in the beautiful forest of Vrindavan.

vilokyaikā bhuvaṃ prāha gopī gopavarāṅganā pulakāñcitasarvāṅgī vikāsinayanotpalā ||
Seeing this, one gopi spoke to the other, her body covered with goosebumps, her eyes blooming like lotuses.

dhvajavajrāṅkuśābjāṅkarekhāvanty āli paśyata padāny etāni kṛṣṇasya līlālaṃkṛtagāminaḥ ||
Look at these footprints, adorned with the marks of flags, thunderbolts, and goads, belonging to Krishna, the master of divine play.

कापि तेन समं याता कृतपुण्या मदालसा पदानि तस्याश चैतानि घनान्य अल्पतनूनि च ।।
kāpi tena samaṃ yātā kṛtapuṇyā madālasā padāni tasyāś caitāni ghanāny alpatanūni ca ||
Some have gone along with him, having performed virtuous deeds, while others are dense and slender.

Here, the Damodara has certainly created a collection of flowers, by which the footprints of that great soul are marked.

अत्रोपविश्य सा तेन कापि पुष्पैर अलंकृता अन्यजन्मनि सर्वात्मा विष्णुर अभ्यर्चितो यया ।।
atropaviśya sā tena kāpi puṣpair alaṃkṛtā anyajanmani sarvātmā viṣṇur abhyarcito yayā ||
Seated here, she is adorned with some flowers, by whom in another birth, the all-pervading Vishnu is worshipped.

puṣpabandhanasaṃmānakṛtamānām apāsya tām nandagopasuto yāto mārgeṇānena paśyata ||
The son of Nandagopa has gone on this path, having discarded the honor of the flower garland.

In the following path, the one who is unable to bear the burden of her hips, swiftly goes to the place to be reached.

hastanyastāgrahasteyaṃ tena yāti tathā sakhī anāyattapadanyāsā lakṣyate padapaddhatiḥ ||
This friend goes in the same way, with her hand placed on the ground, and the path is seen as unencumbered.

हस्तसंस्पर्शमात्रेण धूर्तेनैषा विमानिता नैराश्यान मन्दगामिन्या निवृत्तं लक्ष्यते पदम ।।
hastasaṃsparśamātreṇa dhūrtenaiṣā vimānitā nairāśyān mandagāminyā nivṛttaṃ lakṣyate padam ||
By merely touching with the hand, she is made to fly by the cunning one; the path is seen as obstructed by the slow-moving one.

nūnam uktā tvarāmīti punar eṣyāmi te 'ntikam tena kṛṣṇena yenaiṣā tvaritā padapaddhatiḥ ||
Surely, it has been said that I will come to you quickly. By that Krishna, by whom this swift path is made.

प्रविष्टो गहनं कृष्णः पदम अत्र न लक्ष्यते निवर्तध्वं शशाङ्कस्य नैतद दीधितिगोचरे ।।
praviṣṭo gahanaṃ kṛṣṇaḥ padam atra na lakṣyate nivartadhvaṃ śaśāṅkasya naitad dīdhitigocare ||
Krishna has entered the deep, and his footstep is not seen here. Turn back, for this is not within the reach of the moon's light.

निवृत्तास तास ततो गोप्यो निराशाः कृष्णदर्शने यमुनातीरम आगम्य जगुस तच्चरितं तदा ।।
nivṛttās tās tato gopyo nirāśāḥ kṛṣṇadarśane yamunātīram āgamya jagus taccaritaṃ tadā ||
The gopis, having returned, were disappointed at not seeing Krishna. Coming to the banks of the Yamuna, they sang of his deeds at that time.

ततो ददृशुर आयान्तं विकासिमुखपङ्कजम गोप्यस त्रैलोक्यगोप्तारं कृष्णम अक्लिष्टचेष्टितम ।।
tato dadṛśur āyāntaṃ vikāsimukhapaṅkajam gopyas trailokyagoptāraṃ kṛṣṇam akliṣṭaceṣṭitam ||
Then they saw Krishna approaching, like a lotus with a blooming face. The gopis beheld Krishna, the protector of the three worlds, who was engaged in effortless activities.

kācid ālokya govindam āyāntam atiharṣitā kṛṣṇa kṛṣṇeti kṛṣṇeti prāha nānyad udīrayat ||
One gopi, seeing Govinda approaching, was extremely joyful. She exclaimed, 'Krishna, Krishna!' and did not speak anything else.

Having created a beautiful brow, she looked at the Lord Hari with her eyes resembling bumblebees and drank the nectar of his lotus-like face.

Having seen Govinda, she closed her eyes and meditated on his form, appearing as if she were in a state of yoga.

Then, some with sweet words and others with glances from their beautiful brows, Madhava was persuaded by their touch.

With those gopis who were of cheerful disposition, the Lord Hari joyfully engaged in the dance with a noble character.

Even though bound by the circle of dance, he was not separated from Krishna, remaining steadfast in one place with the gopi community.

Holding each gopika in His hands in the dance circle, Hari made her close her eyes with His touch.

Then the dance began, accompanied by the sounds of moving rhythms, following the poetic songs of the autumn season.

Krishna, like the autumn moon, sang sweetly, invoking the name of Krishna again and again for the gopis.

One gopi, embracing Him with her beautiful arm, kissed Him, skillfully praising Madhusudana with her song.

The gopis, having approached the arms of Hari, were filled with ecstatic joy and their bodies were drenched in sweat.

As Krishna sang the Raasa, the sound of his flute echoed, and the gopis joyfully repeated his name, 'Krishna, Krishna', doubling their delight.

When he departed, the gopis, with their hearts following him, turned their faces towards him and, in unison, called out to Hari.

Thus, together with the gopis, Madhusudana enjoyed a moment that was as precious as millions of years, without being separated.

Despite being restrained by husbands, fathers, and brothers, the gopis delightfully enjoyed Krishna at night, who is dear to their hearts.

He, the Supreme Soul, enjoyed with the young poets, honoring Madhusudana, and was pleased, being the immeasurable one, in the twilight.

Thus, the Lord, who is the essence of all beings, remains pervading like the wind among all creatures.

yathā samastabhūteṣu nabho 'gniḥ pṛthivī jalam vāyuś cātmā tathaivāsau vyāpya sarvam avasthitaḥ ||
Just as fire, earth, water, and air are present in all beings, so too is He, pervading everything.
