dhṛte govardhane śaile paritrāte ca gokule rocayām āsa kṛṣṇasya darśanaṃ pākaśāsanaḥ ||
Holding up Govardhana mountain and protecting Gokula, Krishna's sight was pleasing to the one who wields the cooking pot.

so 'dhiruhya mahānāgam airāvatam amitrajit govardhanagirau kṛṣṇaṃ dadarśa tridaśeśvaraḥ ||
He, having mounted the great serpent Airavata, saw Krishna on Govardhana, the lord of the three worlds.

चारयन्तं महावीर्यं गाश च गोपवपुर्धरम कृत्स्नस्य जगतो गोपं वृतं गोपकुमारकैः ।।
cārayantaṃ mahāvīryaṃ gāś ca gopavapurdharam kṛtsnasya jagato gopaṃ vṛtaṃ gopakumārakaiḥ ||
He was driving the great hero, who was surrounded by cowherd boys, the protector of the entire world.

गरुडं च ददर्शोच्चैर अन्तर्धानगतं द्विज कृतच्छायं हरेर मूर्ध्नि पक्षाभ्यां पक्षिपुंगवम ।।
garuḍaṃ ca dadarśoccair antardhānagataṃ dvija kṛtacchāyaṃ harer mūrdhni pakṣābhyāṃ pakṣipuṃgavam ||
He saw Garuda, the bird, high up, disappearing, with a shadow created by the Lord's head and wings.

अवरुह्य स नागेन्द्राद एकान्ते मधुसूदनम शक्रः सस्मितम आहेदं प्रीतिविस्तारितेक्षणः ।।
avaruhya sa nāgendrād ekānte madhusūdanam śakraḥ sasmitam āhedaṃ prītivistāritekṣaṇaḥ ||
Descending from the king of serpents, O Madhusudana, Indra approached you in solitude, smiling, with eyes expanded in joy.

कृष्ण कृष्ण शृणुष्वेदं यदर्थम अहम आगतः त्वत्समीपं महाभाग नैतच चिन्त्यं त्वयान्यथा ।।
kṛṣṇa kṛṣṇa śṛṇuṣvedaṃ yadartham aham āgataḥ tvatsamīpaṃ mahābhāga naitac cintyaṃ tvayānyathā ||
O Krishna, Krishna, listen to this, for what reason I have come to you, O great one; this should not be contemplated by you otherwise.

भारावतारणार्थाय पृथिव्याः पृथिवीतलम अवतीर्णो ऽखिलाधार त्वम एव परमेश्वरः ।।
bhārāvatāraṇārthāya pṛthivyāḥ pṛthivītalam avatīrṇo 'khilādhāra tvam eva parameśvaraḥ ||
For the purpose of relieving the burden of the earth, you have descended to the earthly realm; you alone are the supreme being who supports all.

महभङ्गविरुद्धेन मया गोकुलनाशकाः समादिष्टा महामेघास तैश चैतत कदनं कृतम ।।
mahabhaṅgaviruddhena mayā gokulanāśakāḥ samādiṣṭā mahāmeghās taiś caitat kadanaṃ kṛtam ||
I have commanded the great clouds to destroy the destroyers of Gokula, opposed to the great disturbance.

त्रातास ताश च त्वया गावः समुत्पाट्य महागिरिम तेनाहं तोषितो वीर कर्मणात्यद्भुतेन ते ।।
trātās tāś ca tvayā gāvaḥ samutpāṭya mahāgirim tenāhaṃ toṣito vīra karmaṇātyadbhutena te ||
You have saved those cows by uprooting the great mountain; thus, I am pleased, O hero, by your extraordinary deeds.

साधितं कृष्ण देवानाम अहं मन्ये प्रयोजनम त्वयायम अद्रिप्रवरः करेणैकेन यद धृतः ।।
sādhitaṃ kṛṣṇa devānām ahaṃ manye prayojanam tvayāyam adripravaraḥ kareṇaikena yad dhṛtaḥ ||
I believe that this has been accomplished for the gods, Krishna, by you, who have held the mountain with one hand.

गोभिश च चोदितः कृष्ण त्वत्सकाशम इहागतः त्वया त्राताभिर अत्यर्थं युष्मत्सत्कारकारणात ।।
gobhiś ca coditaḥ kṛṣṇa tvatsakāśam ihāgataḥ tvayā trātābhir atyarthaṃ yuṣmatsatkārakāraṇāt ||
O Krishna, urged by the cows, you have come here. You are the protector, and this is due to your respect.

स त्वां कृष्णाभिषेक्ष्यामि गवां वाक्यप्रचोदितः उपेन्द्रत्वे गवाम इन्द्रो गोविन्दस त्वं भविष्यसि ।।
sa tvāṃ kṛṣṇābhiṣekṣyāmi gavāṃ vākyapracoditaḥ upendratve gavām indro govindas tvaṃ bhaviṣyasi ||
I will anoint you, Krishna, urged by the words of the cows. You will become Indra of the cows, Govinda.

अथोपवाह्याद आदाय घण्टाम ऐरावताद गजात अभिषेकं तया चक्रे पवित्रजलपूर्णया ।।
athopavāhyād ādāya ghaṇṭām airāvatād gajāt abhiṣekaṃ tayā cakre pavitrajalapūrṇayā ||
Then, taking the bell from the elephant Airavata, she performed the anointing with pure water.

kriyamāṇe 'bhiṣeke tu gāvaḥ kṛṣṇasya tatkṣaṇāt prasnavodbhūtadugdhārdrāṃ sadyaś cakrur vasuṃdharām ||
At the time of the anointing, the cows immediately produced milk, which was full of questions, and they began to churn the earth.

अभिषिच्य गवां वाक्याद देवेन्द्रो वै जनार्दनम प्रीत्या सप्रश्रयं कृष्णं पुनर आह शचीपतिः ।।
abhiṣicya gavāṃ vākyād devendro vai janārdanam prītyā sapraśrayaṃ kṛṣṇaṃ punar āha śacīpatiḥ ||
Having anointed Janardana with the words of the gods, the lord of Shachi, with affection and respect, spoke again to Krishna.

गवाम एतत कृतं वाक्यं तथान्यद अपि मे शृणु यद ब्रवीमि महाभाग भारावतरणेच्छया ।।
gavām etat kṛtaṃ vākyaṃ tathānyad api me śṛṇu yad bravīmi mahābhāga bhārāvataraṇecchayā ||
Listen to this statement made about the cows and other matters, which I, the great one, speak with the desire to bring about the descent of the earth.

ममांशः पुरुषव्याघ्र पृथायां पृथिवीतले अवतीर्णो ऽर्जुनो नाम स रक्ष्यो भवता सदा ।।
mamāṃśaḥ puruṣavyāghra pṛthāyāṃ pṛthivītale avatīrṇo 'rjuno nāma sa rakṣyo bhavatā sadā ||
O tiger among men, Arjuna, who has descended on the earth, you are always to be protected by me.

भारावतरणे साह्यं स ते वीरः करिष्यति स रक्षणीयो भवता यथात्मा मधुसूदन ।।
bhārāvataraṇe sāhyaṃ sa te vīraḥ kariṣyati sa rakṣaṇīyo bhavatā yathātmā madhusūdana ||
That hero will assist you in the descent of the earth; he is to be protected by you as your own self, O Madhusudana.

जानामि भारते वंशे जातं पार्थं तवांशकम तम अहं पालयिष्यामि यावत स्थास्यामि भूतले ।।
jānāmi bhārate vaṃśe jātaṃ pārthaṃ tavāṃśakam tam ahaṃ pālayiṣyāmi yāvat sthāsyāmi bhūtale ||
I know that Partha, born in the lineage of Bharata, is your descendant; I will protect him as long as I remain on the earth.

यावन महीतले शक्र स्थास्याम्य अहम अरिंदम न तावद अर्जुनं कश्चिद देवेन्द्र युधि जेष्यति ।।
yāvan mahītale śakra sthāsyāmy aham ariṃdama na tāvad arjunaṃ kaścid devendra yudhi jeṣyati ||
As long as I remain on this earth, O Arindama, no one will defeat Arjuna in battle, O Indra.

कंसो नाम महाबाहुर दैत्यो ऽरिष्टस तथापरः केशी कुवलयापीडो नरकाद्यास तथापरे ।।
kaṃso nāma mahābāhur daityo 'riṣṭas tathāparaḥ keśī kuvalayāpīḍo narakādyās tathāpare ||
Kamsa, the mighty demon, and others like him, as well as Kesi and Kuvalayapida, are among those who are destined for hell.

हतेष्व एतेषु देवेन्द्र भविष्यति महाहवः तत्र विद्धि सहस्राक्ष भारावतरणं कृतम ।।
hateṣv eteṣu devendra bhaviṣyati mahāhavaḥ tatra viddhi sahasrākṣa bhārāvataraṇaṃ kṛtam ||
When these are slain, O Indra, the great battle will take place; know that the act of descending to the earth has been performed by the thousand-eyed one.

स त्वं गच्छ न संतापं पुत्रार्थे कर्तुम अर्हसि नार्जुनस्य रिपुः कश्चिन ममाग्रे प्रभविष्यति ।।
sa tvaṃ gaccha na saṃtāpaṃ putrārthe kartum arhasi nārjunasya ripuḥ kaścin mamāgre prabhaviṣyati ||
You go; do not be distressed; you are worthy of acting for the sake of your son; no enemy of Arjuna will prevail over me.

अर्जुनार्थे त्व अहं सर्वान युधिष्ठिरपुरोगमान निवृत्ते भारते युद्धे कुन्त्यै दास्याम्य अविक्षतान ।।
arjunārthe tv ahaṃ sarvān yudhiṣṭhirapurogamān nivṛtte bhārate yuddhe kuntyai dāsyāmy avikṣatān ||
For the sake of Arjuna, I will serve all those who are ahead of Yudhishthira, when the battle in Bharata is over, I will give to Kunti those who are unscathed.

इत्य उक्तः संपरिष्वज्य देवराजो जनार्दनम आरुह्यैरावतं नागं पुनर एव दिवं ययौ ।।
ity uktaḥ saṃpariṣvajya devarājo janārdanam āruhyairāvataṃ nāgaṃ punar eva divaṃ yayau ||
Thus spoken, the king of the gods embraced Janardana and mounted the elephant Airavata, and then ascended to heaven again.

कृष्णो ऽपि सहितो गोभिर गोपालैश च पुनर व्रजम आजगामाथ गोपीनां दृष्टिपूतेन वर्त्मना ।।
kṛṣṇo 'pi sahito gobhir gopālaiś ca punar vrajam ājagāmātha gopīnāṃ dṛṣṭipūtena vartmanā ||
Krishna, accompanied by the cows and the cowherds, again approached the village, following the path that was marked by the gaze of the gopis.
