अतः परं ययातेः प्रथमपुत्रस्य यदोर वंशम अहं कथयामि। यत्राशेषलोकनिवासिमनुष्यसिद्धगन्धर्वयक्षराक्षसगुह्यककिंपुरुषाप्सरोरगविहगदैत्यदानवरुद्रवस्वश्वि मरुद्देवर्षिद्विजर्षिमुमुक्षिभिर धर्मार्थकाममोक्षार्थिभिस तत्तत्फललाभाय सदाभिष्टुतापरिच्छेद्यमाहात्म्येनांशेन भगवान अनादिनिधनो विष्णुर अवततार।।
ataḥ paraṃ yayāteḥ prathamaputrasya yador vaṃśam ahaṃ kathayāmi| yatrāśeṣalokanivāsimanuṣyasiddhagandharvayakṣarākṣasaguhyakakiṃpuruṣāpsaroragavihagadaityadānavarudravasvaśvi maruddevarṣidvijarṣimumukṣibhir dharmārthakāmamokṣārthibhis tattatphalalābhāya sadābhiṣṭutāparicchedyamāhātmyenāṃśena bhagavān anādinidhano viṣṇur avatatāra||
Now I shall narrate the lineage of Yayati's first son. Where all beings reside, including humans, perfected beings, Gandharvas, Yakshas, Rakshasas, and others, the Supreme Lord Vishnu, eternal and unchanging, descended.

अत्र च श्लोकः। यदोर वंशं नरः श्रुत्वा सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते। यत्रावतीर्णं विष्ण्वाख्यं परं ब्रह्म निराकृति।।
atra ca ślokaḥ| yador vaṃśaṃ naraḥ śrutvā sarvapāpaiḥ pramucyate| yatrāvatīrṇaṃ viṣṇvākhyaṃ paraṃ brahma nirākṛti||
Here is a verse. A man who hears of the lineage of Yadu is freed from all sins. There, the supreme Brahman, known as Vishnu, descends in form.

सहस्रजित्क्रोष्टुनलरघुसंज्ञाश चत्वारो यदुपुत्रा बभूवुः। सहस्रजित्पुत्रः शतजित। तस्य हैहयहेहयवेणुहयास त्रयः पुत्रा बभूवुः। हैहयपुत्रो धर्मस तस्यापि धर्मनेत्रस ततः कुन्तिः कुन्तेः साहंजित। तत्तनयो महिष्मान।।
sahasrajitkroṣṭunalaraghusaṃjñāś catvāro yaduputrā babhūvuḥ| sahasrajitputraḥ śatajit| tasya haihayahehayaveṇuhayās trayaḥ putrā babhūvuḥ| haihayaputro dharmas tasyāpi dharmanetras tataḥ kuntiḥ kunteḥ sāhaṃjit| tattanayo mahiṣmān||
From Sahasrajit, four sons of Yadu named Kroṣṭu, Nala, and Raghu were born. From Sahasrajit, the son Shatajit was born. From him, three sons named Haihaya, Hehay, and Venu were born. The son of Haihaya was Dharmas, and from him, Kunti was born, who gave birth to the mighty Mahishman.

तस्माद भद्रश्रेण्यस ततो दुर्दमस तस्माद धनकः। धनकस्य कृतवीर्यकृताग्निकृतधर्मकृतौजसश चत्वारः पुत्राः। कृतवीर्याद अर्जुनः सप्तद्वीपपतिर बाहुसहस्री जज्ञे। यो ऽसौ भगवदंशम अत्रिकुलप्रसूतं दत्तात्रेयाख्यम आराध्य बाहुसहस्रम अधर्मसेवानिवारणं धर्मेण पृथिवीजयं धर्मतश चानुपालनम अरातिभ्यो ऽपराजयम अखिलजगत्प्रख्यातपुरुषाच च मृत्युम इत्य एतान वरान अभिलषितवांल लेभे च।।
tasmād bhadraśreṇyas tato durdamas tasmād dhanakaḥ| dhanakasya kṛtavīryakṛtāgnikṛtadharmakṛtaujasaś catvāraḥ putrāḥ| kṛtavīryād arjunaḥ saptadvīpapatir bāhusahasrī jajñe| yo 'sau bhagavadaṃśam atrikulaprasūtaṃ dattātreyākhyam ārādhya bāhusahasram adharmasevānivāraṇaṃ dharmeṇa pṛthivījayaṃ dharmataś cānupālanam arātibhyo 'parājayam akhilajagatprakhyātapuruṣāc ca mṛtyum ity etān varān abhilaṣitavāṃl lebhe ca||
Therefore, from the auspicious lineage, there arose the invincible Dharmaka. From Dharmaka, four sons named Kṛtavīrya, Kṛtāgni, Kṛtadharma, and Kṛtaujas were born. From Kṛtavīrya, Arjuna, the king of the seven islands, was born. He worshipped the divine portion of the Lord, born in the family of Atri, named Dattatreya, and achieved many boons, including victory over the earth through righteousness and protection from enemies.

तेनेयम अशेषद्वीपवती पृथिवी सम्यक परिपालिता। दश यज्ञसहस्राण्य असाव अयजत।।
teneyam aśeṣadvīpavatī pṛthivī samyak paripālitā| daśa yajñasahasrāṇy asāv ayajat||
Thus, this earth, endowed with countless islands, is well-protected. She performed ten thousand sacrifices.

न नूनं कार्तवीर्यस्य गतिं यास्यन्ति पार्थिवाः यज्ञैर दानैस तपोभिर वा प्रश्रयेण श्रुतेन च ।।
na nūnaṃ kārtavīryasya gatiṃ yāsyanti pārthivāḥ yajñair dānais tapobhir vā praśrayeṇa śrutena ca ||
Surely, the kings will not attain the path of Kārtavīrya, through sacrifices, donations, austerities, or by the support of scriptures.

अनष्टद्रव्यता च तस्य राज्ये ऽभवत। एवं पञ्चाशीतिवर्षसहस्राण्य अव्याहतारोग्यश्रीबलपराक्रमो राज्यम अकरोत।।
anaṣṭadravyatā ca tasya rājye 'bhavat| evaṃ pañcāśītivarṣasahasrāṇy avyāhatārogyaśrībalaparākramo rājyam akarot||
In his kingdom, there was no loss of wealth. Thus, he ruled for fifty thousand years, endowed with health, prosperity, strength, and valor.

माहिष्मत्यां दिग्विजयाभ्यागतो नर्मदाजलावगाहनक्रीडातिपानमदाकुलेनायत्नेनैव तेनाशेषदेवदैत्यगन्धर्वेशजयोद्भूतमदावलेपो ऽपि रावणः पशुर इव बद्ध्वा स्वनगरैकान्ते स्थापितः।।
māhiṣmatyāṃ digvijayābhyāgato narmadājalāvagāhanakrīḍātipānamadākulenāyatnenaiva tenāśeṣadevadaityagandharveśajayodbhūtamadāvalepo 'pi rāvaṇaḥ paśur iva baddhvā svanagaraikānte sthāpitaḥ||
In Mahishmati, having come for conquest, Ravana, intoxicated by the waters of the Narmada, was established in his city, bound like an animal.

यश च पञ्चाशीतिवर्षसहस्रोपलक्षणकालावसाने भगवन्नारायणांशेन परशुरामेणोपसंहृतः। तस्य च पुत्रशतप्रधानाः पञ्च पुत्रा बभूवुः। शूरशूरसेनवृषणमधुजयध्वजसंज्ञाः।।
yaś ca pañcāśītivarṣasahasropalakṣaṇakālāvasāne bhagavannārāyaṇāṃśena paraśurāmeṇopasaṃhṛtaḥ| tasya ca putraśatapradhānāḥ pañca putrā babhūvuḥ| śūraśūrasenavṛṣaṇamadhujayadhvajasaṃjñāḥ||
At the end of the period marked by fifty thousand years, he was taken by the divine aspect of Narayana, along with Parashurama. He had five sons, the foremost of whom was Bharata.

जयध्वजात तालजङ्घः पुत्रो ऽभवत। तालजङ्घस्य तालजङ्घाख्यं पुत्रशतम आसीत। येषां ज्येष्ठो वीतिहोत्रस तथान्यो भरतः। भरताद वृषसुजातौ च। वृषस्य पुत्रो मधुर अभवत। तस्यापि वृष्णिप्रमुखं पुत्रशतम आसीत। यतो वृष्णिसंज्ञाम एतद गोत्रम अवाप।।
jayadhvajāt tālajaṅghaḥ putro 'bhavat| tālajaṅghasya tālajaṅghākhyaṃ putraśatam āsīt| yeṣāṃ jyeṣṭho vītihotras tathānyo bharataḥ| bharatād vṛṣasujātau ca| vṛṣasya putro madhur abhavat| tasyāpi vṛṣṇipramukhaṃ putraśatam āsīt| yato vṛṣṇisaṃjñām etad gotram avāpa||
From Jayadhvaja, Taalajangha was born. Taalajangha had a hundred sons named Taalajangha. The eldest among them was Vītihotra, and another was Bharata.

मधुसंज्ञाहेतुश च मधुर अभवत। यादवाश च यदुनामोपलक्षणात।।
madhusaṃjñāhetuś ca madhur abhavat| yādavāś ca yadunāmopalakṣaṇāt||
Due to the name Madhusanjna, he was called Madhur. The Yadavas were named after the Yadu lineage.
