The region north of the ocean and south of the Himalayas is called Bharat, where the descendants of Bharata reside.

From here, heaven and liberation are attained, as well as the middle and the end; indeed, no other actions of mortals are performed on this earth.

This island extends a thousand yojanas from the south to the north; to the east are the Kiratas, and to the west are the Yavanas.

ब्राह्मणाः क्षत्रिया वैश्या मध्ये शूद्राश च भागशः इज्यायुधवणिज्याद्यैर वर्तयन्तो व्यवस्थिताः ।।
brāhmaṇāḥ kṣatriyā vaiśyā madhye śūdrāś ca bhāgaśaḥ ijyāyudhavaṇijyādyair vartayanto vyavasthitāḥ ||

The rivers like Narmadā and others, which flow from the Vindhya mountains, and the Tāpī, which is warm, are born from the region of the Vindhyas, along with those born from the Rākṣasas.

कर्माण्य असंकल्पिततत्फलानि संन्यस्य विष्णौ परमात्मरूपे अवाप्य तां कर्ममहीम अनन्ते तस्मिंल लयं ये त्व अमलाः प्रयान्ति ।।

Having renounced the fruits of actions, one who merges into the supreme form of Vishnu, attains that great realm of actions, and the pure ones go to that infinite state.

We know not where we will be when we dissolve; in the realm of heaven, due to actions, we shall attain, indeed, those fortunate humans who are devoid of sensory bondage in Bharat.

jambūdvīpaṃ samāvṛtya lakṣayojanavistaraḥ maitreya valayākāraḥ sthitaḥ kṣārodadhir bahiḥ ||
Surrounding Jambudvipa, the expanse of a hundred thousand yojanas, O Maitreya, is situated like a circular shape, beyond which lies the salty ocean.
