When he was anointed, that Pṛthu, previously by the great sages in the kingdom, then gradually the grandfather of the worlds gave kingdoms.

Brahma placed the moon in the kingdom of the stars and planets, and also in the midst of the countless herbs and plants.

To the Prajapati Daksha, also to Vāsava, and to the Maruts, he gave Prahlada, the lord of the Daityas and the Danavas.

He anointed Yama, the king of righteousness among the ancestors, and gave him Airavata, the lord of all elephants.

Among the birds, he gave Garuda to the gods, and among the horses, he gave the excellent Uccaiḥśravas, and among the cows, he gave the bull.

śeṣaṃ tu nāgarājānaṃ mṛgāṇāṃ siṃham īśvaram || vanaspatīnāṃ rājānaṃ plakṣam evābhyaṣecayat ||
He anointed Śeṣa, the king of the nāgas, and the lion among the animals, and he anointed Plakṣa, the king of the plants.

evaṃ vibhajya rājyāni diśāṃ pālān anantaram prajāpatipatir brahmā sthāpayām āsa sarvataḥ ||
Thus, having divided the kingdoms, he appointed the guardians of directions, and thereafter, Brahma, the lord of creatures, established them everywhere.

In the eastern direction, he anointed the king Vairaja, the guardian of directions, Sudhanvana.

dakṣiṇasyāṃ diśi tathā kardamasya prajāpateḥ putraṃ śaṅkhapadaṃ nāma rājānaṃ so 'bhyaṣecayat ||
In the southern direction, he anointed the king named Shankhapada, the son of Kardama, the Prajapati.

In the western direction, he anointed the great-souled king Acyuta, the son of Rajas, who is endowed with a comet.

tathā hiraṇyaromāṇaṃ parjanyasya prajāpateḥ udīcyāṃ diśi durdharṣaṃ rājānaṃ so 'bhyaṣecayat ||
Thus, he anointed the king named Hiranyaromana, the son of Parjanya, in the northern direction, who is difficult to conquer.

All these lands, with their seven islands and forests, are still governed by dharma in accordance with their regions.

All these kings, endowed with the glories of Vishnu, are engaged in the activities of the great-souled sage.

ये भविष्यन्ति ये भूताः सर्वभूतेश्वरा द्विज ते सर्वे सर्वभूतस्य विष्णोर अंशा द्विजोत्तम ।।
ye bhaviṣyanti ye bhūtāḥ sarvabhūteśvarā dvija te sarve sarvabhūtasya viṣṇor aṃśā dvijottama ||
Those who will be, and those who have been, all are the lords of all beings, O twice-born. They are all parts of Vishnu, the best among the twice-born.

Those who are the lords of the gods, and those who are the lords of the demons, and also the lords of the Danavas, and the lords of the flesh-eaters.

paśūnāṃ ye ca patayaḥ patayo ye ca pakṣiṇām manuṣyāṇāṃ ca sarpāṇāṃ nāgānāṃ cādhipās tu ye ||
Those who are the lords of the animals, and those who are the lords of the birds, and also the lords of humans, serpents, and Nagas.

vṛkṣāṇāṃ parvatānāṃ ca grahāṇāṃ cāpi ye 'dhipāḥ atītā vartamānāś ca ye bhaviṣyanti cāpare te sarve sarvabhūtasya viṣṇor aṃśasamudbhavāḥ ||
Those who are the lords of trees, mountains, and also of planets, those who have passed, those who are present, and those who will come later, all are born from the parts of Vishnu.

न हि पालनसामर्थ्यम ऋते सर्वेश्वरं हरिम स्थितौ स्थितं महाप्राज्ञ भवत्य अन्यस्य कस्यचित ।।
na hi pālanasāmarthyam ṛte sarveśvaraṃ harim sthitau sthitaṃ mahāprājña bhavaty anyasya kasyacit ||
Indeed, there is no capability for protection without the Supreme Lord Hari. In existence, the wise one remains established; without Him, none can.

sṛjaty eṣa jagat sṛṣṭau sthitau pāti sanātanaḥ hanti caivāntakatve ca rajaḥsattvādisaṃśrayaḥ ||
This eternal one creates, sustains, and destroys the universe, and is the refuge of the modes of nature.

चतुर्विभागः संसृष्टौ चतुर्धा संस्थितः स्थितौ प्रलयं च करोत्य अन्ते चतुर्भेदो जनार्दनः ।।
caturvibhāgaḥ saṃsṛṣṭau caturdhā saṃsthitaḥ sthitau pralayaṃ ca karoty ante caturbhedo janārdanaḥ ||
Divided into four, he is established in creation and causes dissolution at the end; Janardana has four forms.

एकेनांशेन ब्रह्मासौ भवत्य अव्यक्तमूर्तिमान मरीचिमिश्राः पतयः प्रजानाम अन्यभागतः ।।
ekenāṃśena brahmāsau bhavaty avyaktamūrtimān marīcimiśrāḥ patayaḥ prajānām anyabhāgataḥ ||
By one part, he becomes the unmanifest Brahman, and the mixed rays are the other parts of creation.

kālas tṛtīyas tasyāṃśaḥ sarvabhūtāni cāparaḥ itthaṃ caturdhā saṃsṛṣṭau vartate 'sau rajoguṇaḥ ||
The third aspect of time is another part, and thus this mode of passion manifests in four ways.

Established by one part, Vishnu performs the maintenance, while another part takes the form of time.

Relying on darkness, at the end of time, the Lord manifests as Rudra in one aspect.

In the form of fire and the like, one part exists, while another part is the form of time; all beings are another.

The great soul, while causing destruction, is said to have a fourfold divine division, which is eternal.

Brahma, Daksha, and others, as well as all living beings, are the manifestations of Hari, the cause of creation in the universe.

In the beginning and in the middle of the world, creation occurs from the non-dissolution; it is performed by the creator, with mixtures of light, through beings.

In the beginning, Brahma creates, and from him, the progeny are produced continuously by beings.

Without time, Brahma cannot create; neither can all the Prajapatis nor any beings.

Thus, this division is taught even while established, O Maitreya, in the dissolution of the Lord of Lords.

yat kiṃcit sṛjyate yena sattvajātena vai dvija tasya sṛjyasya saṃbhūtau tat sarvaṃ vai hares tanuḥ ||
Whatever is created by which, O twice-born, is born of the essence of existence; all that is created is indeed the body of Hari.

hanti yāvat kvacit kiṃcit bhūtaṃ sthāvarajaṅgamam janārdanasya tad raudraṃ maitreyāntakaraṃ vapuḥ ||
As long as any being, whether stationary or moving, exists, that fierce form of Janardana destroys it.

Thus, the Creator of the universe, the Protector of the universe, and the Devourer of the universe is indeed Janardana, the Lord of all.

In the cycles of creation, maintenance, and dissolution, it operates in three ways; through the qualities, it attains the supreme state, which is beyond qualities.

That is knowledge-filled, pervading, self-experienced, incomparable, and of four kinds; that is also the essence of the Supreme Soul.

ahaṃ hariḥ sarvam idaṃ janārdano nānyat tataḥ kāraṇakāryajātam īdṛṅ mano yasya na tasya bhūyo bhavodbhavā dvandvagadā bhavanti ||
I am Hari, all this is Janardana; there is nothing else that is the cause and effect. Such is the mind of one whose dualities do not arise again.
