Bali had a hundred sons, among whom was the eldest, Bāṇa, and all were very powerful, including the sons of Hiranyaksha.

From them, a thousand sons are remembered: sixty of the best among the demons, the Paulomās and Kālkeyas, and the sons of Mārīca.

The three parts, Shalya, and the powerful one, the great strength of the sky; Vata, Namuchi, Ilvala, and Khasrima as well.

These are indeed the best of the demons, the enhancers of the demon lineage; their sons and grandsons are in hundreds and thousands.

From Prahlada, the demon, were born in the family of Nivatakavacha, those who were greatly endowed with austerity and self-realization.

The female parrot gave birth to male parrots, the owl to the opposite owls; the female hawk, shining like the sun, gave birth to hawks and vultures as well.

The pure water birds were indeed revealed by Sugriva; horses, camels, and donkeys of the copper lineage were also proclaimed.

vinatāyās tu dvau putrau vikhyātau garuḍāruṇau suparṇaḥ patatāṃ śreṣṭho dāruṇaḥ pannagāśanaḥ ||
Vinata's two sons, renowned as Garuda and Aruna, are the best among birds; the fierce one who eats serpents.

The thousand serpents of Surasa, endowed with immense energy, are many-headed, O Brahman, among the great souls who travel in the sky.

The Kadruviyas, powerful and endowed with immense energy, gave birth to many-headed birds.

teṣāṃ pradhānabhūtās te śeṣavāsukitakṣakāḥ śaṅkhaśveto mahāpadmaḥ kambalāśvatarāv ubhau ||
Among them, the principal beings are the serpent Vasuki and the tortoise. The conch, the white one, the great lotus, and the two horses, Kambala and Ashvatara.

The son of Ela and the serpent Karkotaka, along with many others, are the Dandashuka and the poisonous ones.

gaṇaṃ krodhavaśaṃ viddhi te ca sarve ca daṃṣṭriṇaḥ sthalajāḥ pakṣiṇo 'bjāś ca dāruṇāḥ piśitāśanāḥ ||
Know that the group is driven by anger; all of them have fangs. The terrestrial ones, the birds, and the lotus-born are fierce flesh-eaters.

gās tu vai janayām āsa surabhir mahiṣīs tathā irāvṛkṣalatāvallīs tṛṇajātīś ca sarvaśaḥ ||
The grass indeed generates fragrance, along with the great cows; the creepers of the Iravriksha and all types of grasses.

khaṣā tu yakṣarakṣāṃsi munir apsarasas tathā ariṣṭā tu mahāsattvān gandharvān samajījanat ||
The Khasas, along with the Yakshas and Rakshasas, and the sage with the Apsaras; the Arishta also generated the great beings, the Gandharvas.

ete kaśyapadāyādāḥ kīrtitāḥ sthāṇujaṅgamāḥ teṣāṃ putrāś ca pautrāś ca śataśo 'tha sahasraśaḥ ||
These are the descendants of Kashyapa, known as the stationary and the moving. Their sons and grandsons are in hundreds and thousands.

eṣa manvantare sargo brahman svārociṣe smṛtaḥ vaivasvate ca mahati vāruṇe vitate kratau ||
This creation is remembered in the Manvantara, O Brahman, in the Svārociṣa period, and in the great sacrifice of Vaivasvata.

juhvānasya brahmaṇo vai prajāsarga ihocyate pūrvaṃ yatra tu saptarṣīn utpannān sapta mānasān ||
The creation of beings is called the sacrifice of Brahma, where previously the seven sages and seven mind-born beings were born.

The grandfather himself created the concept of fatherhood, being the best among the Gandharvas and the Devas, and also among the Danavas.

Diti, bereaved of her sons, pleased Kashyapa; thus, she worshipped Kashyapa properly, who is the best among the ascetics.

If your son kills Indra, then you will bear that child, concentrated and pure.

Thus speaking to the goddess, the sage Kashyapa departed, and she bore that child, perfectly endowed with purity.

Knowing that the child was meant for self-destruction, even Maghavan served her, the immortal lord, with humility.

He, desiring to enter, sat on the cooking seat, and after a hundred years had passed, he saw the inner self.

Without performing the purification of the feet, Diti entered the bed, and he, having entered her womb, caused her to sleep.

vajrapāṇir mahāgarbhaṃ taṃ cicchedātha saptadhā sa pāṭyamāno vajreṇa prarurodātidāruṇam ||
With a thunderbolt hand, he cut that great womb into seven pieces, and it cried out in great agony.

mā rodīr iti taṃ śakraḥ punaḥ punar abhāṣata so 'bhavat saptadhā garbhas tam indraḥ kupitaḥ punaḥ ||
Do not cry, thus spoke Indra again and again; he became sevenfold in that womb, Indra, angry once more.

एकैकं सप्तधा चक्रे वज्रेणारिविदारिणा मरुतो नाम देवास ते बभूवुर अतिवेगिनः ।।
ekaikaṃ saptadhā cakre vajreṇārividāriṇā maruto nāma devās te babhūvur ativeginaḥ ||
Each one became sevenfold in the thunderbolt that breaks the enemies; those named Maruts became very swift gods.

यद उक्तं वै मघवता तेनैव मरुतो ऽभवन देवा एकोनपञ्चाशत सहाया वज्रपाणिनः ।।
yad uktaṃ vai maghavatā tenaiva maruto 'bhavan devā ekonapañcāśat sahāyā vajrapāṇinaḥ ||
What was spoken by Maghavan, by that very thing the Maruts were born, the gods became fifty-one, companions of the one with the thunderbolt.
