kathitaṃ me tvayā sarvaṃ yat pṛṣṭo 'si mahāmune bhṛgusargāt prabhṛty eṣa sargo me kathyatāṃ punaḥ ||
All that you have asked me, O great sage, from the creation of Bhrigu onwards, let this creation of mine be narrated again.

भृगोः ख्यात्यां समुत्पन्ना लक्ष्मीर विष्णुपरिग्रहः तथा धातृविधातारौ ख्यात्यां जातौ सुतौ भृगोः ।।
bhṛgoḥ khyātyāṃ samutpannā lakṣmīr viṣṇuparigrahaḥ tathā dhātṛvidhātārau khyātyāṃ jātau sutau bhṛgoḥ ||
From the fame of Bhrigu, Lakshmi has arisen, along with the acceptance of Vishnu. Likewise, the creator and the preserver have two sons born from the fame of Bhrigu.

आयतिर नियतिश चैव मेरोः कन्ये महात्मनः धातृविधात्रोस ते भार्ये तयोर जातौ सुताव उभौ ।।
āyatir niyatiś caiva meroḥ kanye mahātmanaḥ dhātṛvidhātros te bhārye tayor jātau sutāv ubhau ||
The daughter of the great soul, Mero, is endowed with longevity and destiny. From the creator and preserver, two sons were born to you, O wife.

प्राणश चैव मृकण्डुश च मार्कण्डेयो मृकण्डुतः ततो वेदशिरा जज्ञे प्राणस्यापि सुतं शृणु ।।
prāṇaś caiva mṛkaṇḍuś ca mārkaṇḍeyo mṛkaṇḍutaḥ tato vedaśirā jajñe prāṇasyāpi sutaṃ śṛṇu ||
Prana and Mrikandu, the son of Mrikandu, were born. From them, the essence of the Vedas was born; listen to the son of Prana.

प्राणस्य द्युतिमान पुत्रो राजवांश च ततो ऽभवत ततो वंशो महाभाग विस्तारं भार्गवो गतः ।।
prāṇasya dyutimān putro rājavāṃś ca tato 'bhavat tato vaṃśo mahābhāga vistāraṃ bhārgavo gataḥ ||
The son of Prana, endowed with brilliance, became a king's lineage. Thus, the great lineage of Bhargava expanded.

patnī marīceḥ saṃbhūtiḥ paurṇamāsam asūyata virajāḥ parvataś caiva tasya putrau mahātmanaḥ ||
The wife of Marichi gave birth to a daughter during the full moon, and Viraja, the mountain, also had two sons of that great soul.

वंशसंकीर्तने पुत्रान वदिष्ये ऽहं ततो द्विज स्मृतिश चाङ्गिरसः पत्नी प्रसूता कन्यकास तथा सिनीवाली कुहूश चैव राका चानुमती तथा ।।
vaṃśasaṃkīrtane putrān vadiṣye 'haṃ tato dvija smṛtiś cāṅgirasaḥ patnī prasūtā kanyakās tathā sinīvālī kuhūś caiva rākā cānumatī tathā ||
In recounting the lineage, I shall speak of the sons. The memory of Angirasa and his wife produced daughters, namely Sinivali, Kuhuh, and Raka, as well as Anumati.

अनसूया तथैवात्रेर जज्ञे पुत्रान अकल्मषान सोमं दुर्वाससं चैव दत्तात्रेयं च योगिनम ।।
anasūyā tathaivātrer jajñe putrān akalmaṣān somaṃ durvāsasaṃ caiva dattātreyaṃ ca yoginam ||
Anasūyā also gave birth to sons who were faultless: Soma, Durvasa, and Dattatreya, the yogi.

प्रीत्यां पुलस्त्यभार्यायां दत्तोलिस तत्सुतो ऽभवत पूर्वजन्मनि सो ऽगस्त्यः स्मृतः स्वायंभुवे ऽन्तरे ।।
prītyāṃ pulastyabhāryāyāṃ dattolis tatsuto 'bhavat pūrvajanmani so 'gastyaḥ smṛtaḥ svāyaṃbhuve 'ntare ||
In the joy of Pulastya's wife, Dattoli was born as her son. In a previous birth, he is remembered as Agastya, between Svayambhu and others.

कर्दमश चार्वरीवांश च सहिष्णुश च सुतत्रयम क्षमा तु सुषुवे भार्या पुलहस्य प्रजापतेः ।।
kardamaś cārvarīvāṃś ca sahiṣṇuś ca sutatrayam kṣamā tu suṣuve bhāryā pulahasya prajāpateḥ ||
Kardama and Charvaka, both patient, had three sons. The wife of Pulaha, Prajapati, gave birth to them.

क्रतोश च सन्नतिर भार्या वालखिल्यान असूयत षष्टिस तानि सहस्राणि ऋषीणाम ऊर्ध्वरेतसाम अङ्गुष्ठपर्वमात्राणां ज्वलद्भास्करतेजसाम ।।
kratoś ca sannatir bhāryā vālakhilyān asūyata ṣaṣṭis tāni sahasrāṇi ṛṣīṇām ūrdhvaretasām aṅguṣṭhaparvamātrāṇāṃ jvaladbhāskaratejasām ||
The wife of Kratu gave birth to sixty thousand sons of the Valakhilyas, who were endowed with great energy, like the brilliance of the sun, and were of the size of a thumb.

rajo gotrordhvabāhuś ca savanaś cānaghas tathā sutapāḥ śukra ity ete sarve saptarṣayo 'malāḥ ||
Rajo, Gotra, Urdhvabahu, and Savan, along with Anagha and Sutapa, are all pure Saptarishis.

यो ऽसाव अग्निर अभिमानी ब्रह्मणस तनयो ऽग्रजः तस्मात स्वाहा सुतांल लेभे त्रीन उदारौजसो द्विज ।।
yo 'sāv agnir abhimānī brahmaṇas tanayo 'grajaḥ tasmāt svāhā sutāṃl lebhe trīn udāraujaso dvija ||
He, who is the proud son of the Brahman, is Agni, the elder brother. Therefore, Svāhā obtained three sons of great prowess.

Among them, it is said that there are forty-one and five descendants, including the three sons of the father.

pitaro brahmaṇā sṛṣṭā vyākhyātā ye mayā tava agniṣvāttā barhiṣado 'nagnayaḥ sāgnayaś ca ye ||
The ancestors created by Brahman, as explained by me, are those who are born from Agni, the Barhis, and those who are without fire and those with fire.

तेभ्यः स्वधा सुते जज्ञे मेनां वै धारिणीं तथा ते उभे ब्रह्मवादिन्यौ योगिन्यौ चाप्य उभे द्विज ।।
tebhyaḥ svadhā sute jajñe menāṃ vai dhāriṇīṃ tathā te ubhe brahmavādinyau yoginyau cāpy ubhe dvija ||
From them, the one named Menā, who is a bearer, gave birth to a son; both of them, the Brahma-voiced ones, are yoginis, and both are twice-born.

ity eṣā dakṣakanyānāṃ kathitāpatyasaṃtatiḥ śraddhāvān saṃsmarann etām anapatyo na jāyate ||
Thus is described the lineage of the skilled maiden; one who remembers this with faith does not become childless.
