ayameṣa tvayā kṛtaṃ bhojayainaṃ iti buddhyapekṣam || 8.2.1 ||
‘This,’ ‘That,’ ‘Done by you,’ ‘Feed him’—such (cognitions are) dependent upon Understanding.—321.

By reason of (its) predominance, and of possession of Smell, Earth is the material cause of the olfactory sense.

tathāpastejo vāyuśca rasarūpasparśāviśeṣāt || 8.2.6 ||
In like manner, Water, Fire and Air (are the material causes of the sense-organs of Taste, Colour and Touch), inasmuch as there is no difference in the Taste, Colour and Touch (which they respectively possess, from what they respectively apprehend).
