Speaking forth like polishing a poem, the god declares the birth of gods; resolute in great vows, pure kin, the purifier advances like the boar to the high place.

The swans, thronging to the sacred flame, the bulls pressed on; companions praise the cooling (air), the friend who restrains harsh speech and speaks rightly together.

He yoked the ox’s blazing yoke in vain; the cows were not thinking to sport. The bold-horned one takes the wife, the swift tiger-horn appeared by day, the lion at night roared.

From the heights of heaven and the breadth of earth Vaishvanara, deathless, was born, Agni. The seer, king of guests, approached the people; the gods gave a vessel.

The navel is the seat of sacrifices, the great storehouse of riches of kine and chariots; the gods engender Vaishvanara as the banner of the sacrificial steeds and rituals.

Indra, come with trumpeting hosts, the brahmanas chanting; grant strength to the son, do not let ruin come.

With those sacred fires and oblations he embraced all the forest; by the tongue he makes the black one tawny (i.e. transforms).

Then Indra’s friend marched forth, a comrade not shrinking from battle; like a young man among maidens Soma mingles in the pot with a hundred hymn-mothers.

They sent forth minds, the strong youths, the generous young men, into the enclosures; praising Hari at play the cows pressed milk upon the altar and drank of it.

Come, Soma, restrained, drink the sweet pressings, O Indra; flow, purifying one, with waves. She who milks for us thrice by day and night, the sutiress, brings barley, the banner of Vaja, the sweet heroic strength.

He achieved nothing by works nor did he destroy by wealth; ever-growing he made Indra — not by sacrifices — the lord of the worlds, upheld by vigorous might.

In the fierce month of Ashadha among the chiefs, when men were strong and mighty, the herds gave birth; the heavens were renewed, the earth was compassionate and renewed.

Those who were made in the sacrificial fires, those among the middle of the offerings; and those among the five peoples.

You are not Indra alone—bear the vigor; O mighty one of hundred expedients, be joyful. I grasp that hero, the slayer of foes.

Whatever excellent boon you deem, O Indra, then bear the firm sky; we are the priests of your well—the furnace’s blazing forth.

yatte dikShu prarAdhyaM mano asti shrutaM bR^ihat | tena dR^iDhA chidadriva A vAjaM darShi sAtaye
That which in the directions is proclaimed, the mind has heard widely; therefore make firm like rock and show the vigorous rite of the sacrifice.
