I deem Agni the priest, the servant-sons of wealth born with the might of Jatavedas— not the unknowing Jatavedas. The one who is upward and who is oblation-bearer, the god invoked by gods, mercy: the clarified butter’s eightyfold, the grief of Shukra, the ghee of the summoner’s serpent.

We invoked thee, greatest among the worshipped, eldest of Angirasas; the priests proud with priests, Shukra proud with priests. As the ritual canopy spreads the sky, invoke the priest, the exultant ones. May the mourning hair, the bull, these poisons depart to the waste for the sake of oblation.
