Behold a thousand‑man host; the counsel of the seers spreads light and law. The strong, proper, loud-voiced ones, the swift are like the sought‑for fed ones, prudent in battle; cattle are held in mind.

O Indra, bring us hither from afar; may he be lord like a king — the good lord. We invoke thee, prosperous one, striving for offspring: do not make the father to be for the prize, make him chief for the prize.

Samaveda (Kauthuma Samhita) · Chapter Purvarcika · Verse 460

I invoke that mighty Indra, wrathful, who granted the session, who did not retreat; many heard these words. The foremost, with songs, the sacrificers turned; may he make for us all prosperous paths, powerful one.
Samaveda Kauthuma Purvarcika — Mantra 461
Samaveda (Kauthuma Samhita) · Chapter Purvarcika · Verse 461

So be it. Hearken, ancient one: we make Agni the mind, place the divine half of intelligence; we choose Indra and Vāyu. What belongs to Kris?ṇa (Vivasvat)’s navel you have newly joined. Indeed the intellects of the gods go upward; they do not go downward.
Samaveda Kauthuma Purvarcika — Mantra 462
Samaveda (Kauthuma Samhita) · Chapter Purvarcika · Verse 462
प्र वो महे मतयो यन्तु विष्णवे मरुत्वते गिरिजा एवयामरुत । प्र शर्धाय प्र यज्यवे सुखादये तवसे भन्ददिष्टये धुनिव्रताय शवसे
pra vo mahe matayo yantu viShNave marutvate girijA evayAmarut | pra shardhAya pra yajyave sukhAdaye tavase bhandadiShTaye dhunivratAya shavase
May our great thoughts go to Vishnu, to the Maruts, to Girija; may they proceed with zeal to sacrifice and to joy, to your radiant worship, to the fulfilment of vows and steadfast devotion.
Samaveda Kauthuma Purvarcika — Mantra 463
Samaveda (Kauthuma Samhita) · Chapter Purvarcika · Verse 463

This radiant golden splendour purifies all enmities; it crosses them with joined pairs — not by single pairs. The stream gleams on the back; the golden Hari shines anew. All forms will be surrounded and removed by twinfold (forces) and by sevens of such pairs.
Samaveda Kauthuma Purvarcika — Mantra 464
Samaveda (Kauthuma Samhita) · Chapter Purvarcika · Verse 464

I approach and adore the god Savitar and Ramaṇya; poet-made worship I offer to the true assembly, to the jewel-abode, to the beloved mind uplifted — whose splendour is as radiant as a festival, whose hands are golden; Sukratu’s grace is near.
Samaveda Kauthuma Purvarcika — Mantra 465
Samaveda (Kauthuma Samhita) · Chapter Purvarcika · Verse 465

I consider Agni the hotar, the dāsvant (servant) son of Vasus, born with Sahas/Jātavedas; not the Brahmin Jātavedas. He who by uplift is the ritual-priest, the god among gods, be gracious. The ghee of sacrifice spreads radiance; auspicious Shukra lamented the summons and the oblation-snake.
Samaveda Kauthuma Purvarcika — Mantra 466
Samaveda (Kauthuma Samhita) · Chapter Purvarcika · Verse 466

Your non-Aryan (foreign) portion, the first and former song, was proclaimed in heaven; he who by the god’s oblation set forth the hymn brought life, the waters loaned. The world, strengthened by vigour, gave mighty force — may the hundred-slayer know this commander.
