Sūta said: O sage Śaunaka, highly intelligent, of the form of Śiva, noble-minded, please listen to the greatness of Rudrākṣa. I shall explain it briefly.

zivapriyatamo jJeyo rudrA kSaH parapAvanaH । darzanAtsparzanAjjApyAtsarvapApaharaH smRtaH 2 ।
Rudrākṣa is a favourite bead of Śiva. It is highly sanctifying. It removes all sins by sight, contact and Japas.

Śiva said: O Śivā, Maheśāni, be pleased to hear the greatness of Rudrākṣa. I speak out love for you from a desire for the benefit of the devotees of Śiva.

divyavarSasahasrANi mahezAni punaH purA । tapaH prakurvatastrastaM manaH saMyamya vai mama 5 ।
Thousands of divine years, Lord Mahesha (Shiva) in the past performed intense penance. I, with my mind controlled, am now overwhelmed with fear.

स्वतंत्रेण परेशेन लोकोपकृतिकारिणा । लीलया परमेशानि चक्षुरुन्मीलितं मया ६ ।
svataMtreNa parezena lokopakRtikAriNA । lIlayA paramezAni cakSurunmIlitaM mayA 6 ।
By the Supreme Lord, who is absolutely independent and always acts for the welfare of the world, O Supreme Goddess (Parameshāni), my eyes have been opened through His divine play.

puTAbhyAM cArucakSurbhyAM patitA jalabiMdavaH । tatrAzrubindavo jAtA vRkSA rudrA kSasaMjJakAH 7 ।
From the corners of His beautiful eyes fell drops of water; those teardrops became trees, which came to be known as Rudrākṣa trees.

स्थावरत्वमनुप्राप्य भक्तानुग्रहकारणात् । ते दत्ता विष्णुभक्तेभ्यश्चतुर्वर्णेभ्य एव च ८ ।
sthAvaratvamanuprApya bhaktAnugrahakAraNAt । te dattA viSNubhaktebhyazcaturvarNebhya eva ca 8 ।
They became immobile. In order to bless the devotees they were given to the four Varṇas devoted to the worship of Viṣṇu.

भूमौ गौडोद्भवांश्चक्रे रुद्रा क्षाञ्छिववल्लभान् । मथुरायामयोध्यायां लंकायां मलये तथा ९ ।
bhUmau gauDodbhavAMzcakre rudrA kSAJchivavallabhAn । mathurAyAmayodhyAyAM laMkAyAM malaye tathA 9 ।
Having assumed the form of immobile trees (Rudrākṣa trees) out of compassion for devotees, they were gifted to the devotees of Vishnu and to all four varṇas (social orders).

सह्याद्रौ च तथा काश्यां दशेष्वन्येषु वा तथा । परानसह्यपापौघभेदनाञ्छ्रुतिनोदनात् 1-25-१० ।
sahyAdrau ca tathA kAzyAM dazeSvanyeSu vA tathA । parAnasahyapApaughabhedanAJchrutinodanAt 1-25-10 ।
On Mount Sahya, in Kāśī, and in ten other such places as well, due to their power to destroy even the most unbearable heaps of others’ sins — as urged by the Śruti (Vedic scriptures) — (these places) are declared supremely sacred.

ब्राह्मणाः क्षत्रिया वैश्याः शूद्रा जाता ममाज्ञया । रुद्रा क्षास्ते पृथिव्यां तु तज्जातीयाः शुभाक्षकाः ११ ।
brAhmaNAH kSatriyA vaizyAH zUdrA jAtA mamAjJayA । rudrA kSAste pRthivyAM tu tajjAtIyAH zubhAkSakAH 11 ।
At my bidding they were classified into Brahmins, Kṣatriyas, Vaiśyas and Śūdras. These Rudrākṣas are of auspicious nature.

श्वेतरक्ताः पीतकृष्णा वर्णाज्ञेयाः क्रमाद्बुधैः । स्वजातीयं नृभिर्धार्यं रुद्रा क्षं वर्णतः क्रमात् १२ ।
zvetaraktAH pItakRSNA varNAjJeyAH kramAdbudhaiH । svajAtIyaM nRbhirdhAryaM rudrA kSaM varNataH kramAt 12 ।
The colours of the four types of Rudrākṣas are respectively white, red, yellow and black. All people shall wear the Rudrākṣa of their own Varna.

वर्णैस्तु तत्फलं धार्यं भुक्तिमुक्तिफलेप्सुभिः । शिवभक्तैर्विशेषेण शिवयोः प्रीतये सदा १३ ।
varNaistu tatphalaM dhAryaM bhuktimuktiphalepsubhiH । zivabhaktairvizeSeNa zivayoH prItaye sadA 13 ।
If they desire their benefit, namely worldly pleasures and salvation and if the devotees of Śiva wish to gratify Śiva they must wear the Rudrākṣa.

धात्रीफलप्रमाणं यच्छ्रेष्ठमेतदुदाहृतम् । बदरीफलमात्रं तु मध्यमं संप्रकीर्त्तितम् १४ ।
dhAtrIphalapramANaM yacchreSThametadudAhRtam । badarIphalamAtraM tu madhyamaM saMprakIrttitam 14 ।
A Rudrākṣa of the size of an Emblic myrobalan (Dhātrīphala) is mentioned as the most excellent; one of the size of the fruit of the jujube tree (Badarīphala) is spoken of as the middling.

अधमं चणमात्रं स्यात्प्रक्रियैषा परोच्यते । शृणु पार्वति सुप्रीत्या भक्तानां हितकाम्यया १५ ।
adhamaM caNamAtraM syAtprakriyaiSA parocyate । zRNu pArvati suprItyA bhaktAnAM hitakAmyayA 15 ।
O Pārvatī, lovingly listen to this from a desire for the benefit of the devotees. The meanest of Rudrākṣas is of the size of a gram according to this excellent classification.

बदरीफलमात्रं च यत्स्यात्किल महेश्वरि । तथापि फलदं लोके सुखसौभाग्यवर्द्धनम् १६ ।
badarIphalamAtraM ca yatsyAtkila mahezvari । tathApi phaladaM loke sukhasaubhAgyavarddhanam 16 ।
O Maheśvarī, even the Rudrākṣa which is only of the size of the fruit of the jujube accords the benefit and heightens happiness and good fortune.

धात्रीफलसमं यत्स्यात्सर्वारिष्टविनाशनम् । गुंजया सदृशं यत्स्यात्सर्वार्थफलसाधनम् १७ ।
dhAtrIphalasamaM yatsyAtsarvAriSTavinAzanam । guMjayA sadRzaM yatsyAtsarvArthaphalasAdhanam 17 ।
That which is of the size of the emblic myrobalan is conducive to the destruction of all distresses. That which is of the size of a Guñjā (the berry) is conducive to the achievement of the fruit of all desires.

यथा यथा लघुः स्याद्वै तथाधिकफलप्रदम् । एकैकतः फलं प्रोक्तं दशांशैरधिकं बुधैः १८ ।
yathA yathA laghuH syAdvai tathAdhikaphalapradam । ekaikataH phalaM proktaM dazAMzairadhikaM budhaiH 18 ।
The lighter the Rudrākṣa, the more fruitful it is. Each of these is fruitful and that of a weight of one tenth is considered by scholars as the most fruitful.

रुद्रा क्षधारणं प्रोक्तं पापनाशनहेतवे । तस्माच्च धारणी यो वै सर्वार्थसाधनो ध्रुवम् १९ ।
rudrA kSadhAraNaM proktaM pApanAzanahetave । tasmAcca dhAraNI yo vai sarvArthasAdhano dhruvam 19 ।
The wearing of Rudrākṣa is recommended for the sake of destroying sins. Hence that which is conducive to the achievement of every object has to be worn certainly.

यथा च दृश्यते लोके रुद्रा क्षफलदः शुभः । न तथा दृश्यतेऽन्या च मालिका परमेश्वरि 1-25-२० ।
yathA ca dRzyate loke rudrA kSaphaladaH zubhaH । na tathA dRzyate'nyA ca mAlikA paramezvari 1-25-20 ।
O Parameśvarī, no other necklace or garland is observed in the world to be so auspicious and fruitful as the Rudrākṣa.

समाः स्निग्धा दृढाः स्थूलाः कंटकैः संयुताः शुभाः । रुद्रा क्षाः कामदा देवि भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदाः सदा २१ ।
samAH snigdhA dRDhAH sthUlAH kaMTakaiH saMyutAH zubhAH । rudrA kSAH kAmadA devi bhuktimuktipradAH sadA 21 ।
O Goddess, Rudrākṣas of even size, glossy, firm, thick and having many thornlike protrusions yield desires and bestow worldly pleasures and salvation for ever.

क्रिमिदुष्टं छिन्नभिन्नं कंटकैर्हीनमेव च । व्रणयुक्तमवृत्तं च रुद्रा क्षान्षड्विवर्जयेत् २२ ।
krimiduSTaM chinnabhinnaM kaMTakairhInameva ca । vraNayuktamavRttaM ca rudrA kSAnSaDvivarjayet 22 ।
Six types of Rudrākṣas shall be discarded:—that which is defiled by worms, is cut and broken, has no thornlike protrusions, has cracks and is not circular.

स्वयमेव कृतद्वारं रुद्रा क्षं स्यादिहोत्तमम् । यत्तु पौरुषयत्नेन कृतं तन्मध्यमं भवेत् २३ ।
svayameva kRtadvAraM rudrA kSaM syAdihottamam । yattu pauruSayatnena kRtaM tanmadhyamaM bhavet 23 ।
That which has a natural hole from end to end is the most excellent; that which is bored through by human effort is the middling one.

रुद्रा क्षधारणं प्राप्तं महापातकनाशनम् । रुद्र संख्याशतं धृत्वा रुद्र रूपो भवेन्नरः २४ ।
rudrA kSadhAraNaM prAptaM mahApAtakanAzanam । rudra saMkhyAzataM dhRtvA rudra rUpo bhavennaraH 24 ।
The wearing of Rudrākṣa is spoken of as conducive to the destruction of great sins. If eleven hundred Rudrākṣas are worn on the person, the man assumes the form of Rudra.

एकादशशतानीह धृत्वा यत्फलमाप्यते । तत्फलं शक्यते नैव वक्तुं वर्षशतैरपि २५ ।
ekAdazazatAnIha dhRtvA yatphalamApyate । tatphalaM zakyate naiva vaktuM varSazatairapi 25 ।
Even in hundreds of years it is impossible to describe adequately the benefit derived by wearing eleven hundred and fifty Rudrākṣas.

शतार्द्धेन युतैः पंचशतैर्वै मुकुटं मतम् । रुद्रा क्षैर्विरचेत्सम्यग्भक्तिमान्पुरुषो वरः २६ ।
zatArddhena yutaiH paMcazatairvai mukuTaM matam । rudrA kSairviracetsamyagbhaktimAnpuruSo varaH 26 ।
A devout man shall make a coronet consisting of five hundred and fifty Rudrākṣas.

त्रिभिः शतैः षष्टियुक्तैस्त्रिरावृत्त्या तथा पुनः । रुद्रा क्षैरुपवीतं व निर्मीयाद्भक्तितत्परः २७ ।
tribhiH zataiH SaSTiyuktaistrirAvRttyA tathA punaH । rudrA kSairupavItaM va nirmIyAdbhaktitatparaH 27 ।
A person of pious nature shall make three circular strings in the manner of the sacred thread, each having three hundred and sixty beads.

शिखायां च त्रयं प्रोक्तं रुद्र क्षाणां महेश्वरि । कर्णयोः षट् च षट्चैव वामदक्षिणयोस्तथा २८ ।
zikhAyAM ca trayaM proktaM rudra kSANAM mahezvari । karNayoH SaT ca SaTcaiva vAmadakSiNayostathA 28 ।
O Maheśvarī, three Rudrākṣas must be worn on the tuft and six in each of the ears right and left.

शतमेकोत्तरं कंठे बाह्वोर्वै रुद्र संख्यया । कूर्परद्वारयोस्तत्र मणिबंधे तथा पुनः २९ ।
zatamekottaraM kaMThe bAhvorvai rudra saMkhyayA । kUrparadvArayostatra maNibaMdhe tathA punaH 29 ।
On the neck, on the two arms in the number of the Rudras (i.e., 11 each), at the elbow-joints and likewise at the wrists — there should be (beads or marks) totaling 101.

उपवीते त्रयं धार्यं शिवभक्तिरतैर्नरैः । शेषानुर्वरितान्पंच सम्मितान्धारयेत्कटौ 1-25-३० ।
upavIte trayaM dhAryaM zivabhaktiratairnaraiH । zeSAnurvaritAnpaMca sammitAndhArayetkaTau 1-25-30 ।
Three (beads or threads) should be worn on the sacred thread by men devoted to Shiva; the remaining, appropriately selected five, should be worn around the waist.

एतत्संख्या धृता येन रुद्रा क्षाः परमेश्वरि । तद्रू पं तु प्रणम्यं हि स्तुत्यं सर्वैर्महेशवत् ३१ ।
etatsaMkhyA dhRtA yena rudrA kSAH paramezvari । tadrU paM tu praNamyaM hi stutyaM sarvairmahezavat 31 ।
O Parameśvarī, the person by whom so many Rudrākṣas are worn is worthy of being bowed to and adored by all like Maheśa.

एवंभूतं स्थितं ध्याने यदा कृत्वासनैर्जनम् । शिवेति व्याहरंश्चैव दृष्ट्वा पापैः प्रमुच्यते ३२ ।
evaMbhUtaM sthitaM dhyAne yadA kRtvAsanairjanam । ziveti vyAharaMzcaiva dRSTvA pApaiH pramucyate 32 ।
Such a person while in contemplation shall be duly seated and addressed “O Śiva”. Seeing him, every one is freed from sins.

शतादिकसहस्रस्य विधिरेष प्रकीर्तितः । तदभावे प्रकारोन्यः शुभः संप्रोच्यते मया ३३ ।
zatAdikasahasrasya vidhireSa prakIrtitaH । tadabhAve prakAronyaH zubhaH saMprocyate mayA 33 ।
This is the rule regarding eleven hundred Rudrākṣas. If so many are not available, another auspicious procedure I mention to you.

शिखायामेकरुद्रा क्षं शिरसा त्रिंशतं वहेत् । पंचाशच्च गले दध्याद्बाह्वोः षोडश षोडश ३४ ।
zikhAyAmekarudrA kSaM zirasA triMzataM vahet । paMcAzacca gale dadhyAdbAhvoH SoDaza SoDaza 34 ।
One Rudrākṣa should be worn on the śikhā (tuft of hair), thirty on the head, fifty on the neck, and sixteen each on both arms.

मणिबंधे द्वादशद्विस्कंधे पंचशतं वहेत् । अष्टोत्तरशतैर्माल्यमुपवीतं प्रकल्पयेत् ३५ ।
maNibaMdhe dvAdazadviskaMdhe paMcazataM vahet । aSTottarazatairmAlyamupavItaM prakalpayet 35 ।
Twelve Rudrākṣa beads should be worn on each wrist; five hundred on the shoulders; and a garland of one hundred and eight beads should be worn in the manner of the sacred thread.

एवं सहस्ररुद्रा क्षान्धारयेद्यो दृढव्रतः । तं नमंति सुराः सर्वे यथा रुद्र स्तथैव सः ३६ ।
evaM sahasrarudrA kSAndhArayedyo dRDhavrataH । taM namaMti surAH sarve yathA rudra stathaiva saH 36 ।
Thus, he who wears a thousand Rudraksha beads and follows a strong vow, is revered by all the gods (suras) just as they revere Rudra (Shiva) Himself.

एकं शिखायां रुद्रा क्षं चत्वारिंशत्तु मस्तके । द्वात्रिंशत्कण्ठदेशे तु वक्षस्यष्टोत्तरं शतम् ३७ ।
ekaM zikhAyAM rudrA kSaM catvAriMzattu mastake । dvAtriMzatkaNThadeze tu vakSasyaSTottaraM zatam 37 ।
One Rudraksha bead should be worn on the topknot (śikhā), Forty on the head, Thirty-two on the neck, and one hundred and eight on the chest.

एकैकं कर्णयोः षट्षड्बाह्वोः षोडश षोडश । करयोरविमानेन द्विगुणेन मुनीश्वर ३८ ।
ekaikaM karNayoH SaTSaDbAhvoH SoDaza SoDaza । karayoravimAnena dviguNena munIzvara 38 ।
One bead on each ear, Six on each arm, and sixteen on each forearm. O noble sage, on the hands, double this number (i.e., 32), to be worn with humility, without pride.

संख्या प्रीतिर्धृता येन सोपि शैवजनः परः । शिववत्पूजनीयो हि वंद्यस्सर्वैरभीक्ष्णशः ३९ ।
saMkhyA prItirdhRtA yena sopi zaivajanaH paraH । zivavatpUjanIyo hi vaMdyassarvairabhIkSNazaH 39 ।
He who wears the Rudraksha beads in this specified number and with devotion is considered a supreme Shaiva devotee. He is as worshipful as Lord Shiva Himself, and is worthy of reverence by all, again and again.

शिरसीशानमंत्रेण कर्णे तत्पुरुषेण च । अघोरेण गले धार्यं तेनैव हृदयेपि च 1-25-४० ।
zirasIzAnamaMtreNa karNe tatpuruSeNa ca । aghoreNa gale dhAryaM tenaiva hRdayepi ca 1-25-40 ।
It shall be worn on the head repeating Īśāna mantra; on the ears with Tripuruṣa mantra; round the neck with Aghora mantra and on the chest also likewise.

अघोरबीजमंत्रेण करयोर्धारयेत्सुधीः । पंचदशाक्षग्रथितां वामदेवेन चोदरे ४१ ।

The wise devotee shall wear the Rudrākṣa round the forearms with Aghora Bīja mantra. A string of fifteen beads shall be worn on the stomach with Vāmadeva mantra.

valakSaM rudrA kSaM dvijatanubhireveha vihitaM suraktaM kSattrANAM pramuditamume pItamasakRt 44 । chinnaM khaMDitaM bhinnaM vidIrNa । tato vaizyairdhAryaM pratidivasabhAvazyakamaho tathA kRSNaM zUdrai H! zrutigaditamArgoyamagaje 44 ।
O Umā, daughter of the mountain, the white Rudrākṣa shall be worn by the brahmin, the red by the Kṣatriya, the yellow by the Vaiśya, the black by the Śūdra. This is the path indicated by the Vedas.

Whether he is a householder, forest-dweller, ascetic or of any Order, none shall go out of this secret advice. Only by great merits can the opportunity to wear the Rudrākṣa be obtained. If he misses it he will go to hell.

AdAvAmalakAtsvato laghutarA rugNAstataH kaMTakaiH saMdaSTAH kRmibhistanUpakaraNacchidre Na hInAstathA । dhAryA naiva zubhepsubhizcaNakavadrudrA kSamapyaMtato rudrA kSomama liMgamaMgalamume sUkSmaM prazastaM sadA 46 ।
The Rudrākṣas of the size of an Emblic myrobalan and those of lighter weight but depressed with thorns, those eaten by worms or without holes and those characterized by other defects shall not be worn by those wishing for auspicious results. They shall avoid small ones of the size of gram. O Umā, Rudrākṣa is an auspicious complement to my phallic image. The small one is always praiseworthy.

If any one wears it during the day he is freed from sins committed during the night; if he wears it during the night he is freed from the sins committed during the day. Similar is the result with its wearing during morning, midday or evening.

He who wears a single Rudraksha bead on his head, and also bears the Tripundra (three vertical lines of ash) on his forehead, and chants the Panchakshara mantra (the five-syllable mantra of Shiva), is indeed revered by you, and such a person is truly a pious soul (Sādhu).

He who wears Rudrākṣa round the hands and arms and over the head cannot be killed by any living being. He shall roam in the world in the form of Rudra.

He shall be respected by the Gods and Asuras always. He shall be honoured like Śiva. He removes the sin of any one seen by him.

If a person is not liberated after meditation and acquisition of knowledge he shall wear Rudrākṣa. He shall be freed from all sins and attain the highest goal.

A mantra repeated with Rudrākṣa is a crore times more efficacious. A man wearing Rudrākṣa derives a hundred million times more merit.

One shall attain Rudra on seeing a person with Tripuṇḍra, his limbs covered with Rudrākṣa and repeating the Mṛtyuñjaya mantra.

A Rudrākṣa with two faces is Īśa, the lord of devas. It bestows the fulfilment of all desires. Especially, that Rudrākṣa quickly quells the sin of cow-slaughter.

A Rudrākṣa of four faces is Brahmā Himself. It quells the sin of man-slaughter. Its vision and its contact instantaneously bestow the achievement of the four aims of life.

A Rudrākṣa with five faces is Rudra Himself. Its name is kālāgni. It is lordly. It bestows all sorts of salvation and achievement of all desired objects.

A Rudrākṣa with six faces is Kārtikeya. A man who wears it on the right arm is certainly absolved of the sins of brahmin-slaughter and the like.

A Rudrākṣa with seven faces, O Maheśāni, is called Anaṅga. O Deveśī, by wearing it even a poor man becomes a great lord.

A Rudrākṣa with eight faces is called Vasumūrti and Bhairava. By wearing it a man lives the full span of life. After death he becomes the Trident-bearing lord (Śiva).

A Rudrākṣa with nine faces is also Bhairava. Its sage is Kapila. Its presiding goddess is Durgā of nine forms, Maheśvarī Herself.

O Parameśvarī, a Rudrākṣa with eleven faces is Rudra. By wearing it one becomes victorious everywhere.

One shall wear the twelve-faced Rudrākṣa on the hair of the head. All the twelve Ādityas (suns) are present therein.

त्रयोदशमुखो विश्वेदेवस्तद्धारणान्नरः । सर्वान्कामानवाप्नोति सौभाग्यं मंगलंलभेत् ७९ ।
trayodazamukho vizvedevastaddhAraNAnnaraH । sarvAnkAmAnavApnoti saubhAgyaM maMgalaMlabhet 79 ।
A Rudrākṣa with thirteen faces is Viśvedeva. By wearing it, a man will attain the realisation of all desires. He will derive good fortune and auspiciousness.

चतुर्दशमुखो यो हि रुद्रा क्षः परमः शिवः । धारयेन्मूर्ध्नि तं भक्त्या सर्वपापं प्रणश्यति 1-25-८० ।
caturdazamukho yo hi rudrA kSaH paramaH zivaH । dhArayenmUrdhni taM bhaktyA sarvapApaM praNazyati 1-25-80 ।
A Rudrākṣa with fourteen faces is the highest Śiva. It shall be worn on the head with great devotion. It quells all sins.

iti rudrA kSabhedA hi proktA vai mukhabhedataH । tattanmaMtrAJchRNu prItyA kramAcchaillezvarAtmaje 81 ।
O daughter of the king of mountains, thus I have explained to you the different types of Rudrākṣas based on the number offaces. Please listen to the mantras with devotion.

भक्तिश्रद्धा युतश्चैव सर्वकामार्थसिद्धये । रुद्रा क्षान्धारयेन्मंत्रैर्देवनालस्य वर्जितः ८२ ।
bhaktizraddhA yutazcaiva sarvakAmArthasiddhaye । rudrA kSAndhArayenmaMtrairdevanAlasya varjitaH 82 ।
For the achievement of all desired objects, the devotee shall wear the Rudrākṣa with mantras. He shall have great devotion and faith. He shall be free from lethargy.

विना मंत्रेण हो धत्ते रुद्रा क्षं भुवि मानवः । स याति नरकं घोरं यावदिन्द्रा श्चतुर्दश ८३ ।
vinA maMtreNa ho dhatte rudrA kSaM bhuvi mAnavaH । sa yAti narakaM ghoraM yAvadindrA zcaturdaza 83 ।
The man who wears the Rudrākṣa without mantra falls into a terrible hell and stays there during the tenure of fourteen Indras.

रुद्रा क्षमालिनं दृष्ट्वा भूतप्रेतपिशाचकाः । डाकिनीशाकिनी चैव ये चान्ये द्रो हकारकाः ८४ ।
rudrA kSamAlinaM dRSTvA bhUtapretapizAcakAH । DAkinIzAkinI caiva ye cAnye dro hakArakAH 84 ।
Upon seeing the one who wears Rudraksha beads (Rudrā kṣamālinam), the spirits, ghosts, demons, Ḍākīnī, śākīnī, and other treacherous beings, are immediately subdued.

कृत्रिमं चैव यत्किंचिदभिचारादिकं च यत् । तत्सर्वं दूरतो याति दृष्ट्वा शंकितविग्रहम् ८५ ।
kRtrimaM caiva yatkiMcidabhicArAdikaM ca yat । tatsarvaM dUrato yAti dRSTvA zaMkitavigraham 85 ।
Anything that is artificially created, including black magic and similar harmful practices, all of it is repelled from a distance upon seeing the form of one who has a doubtless form (a pure or true form).

rudrA kSamAlinaM dRSTvA zivo viSNuH prasIdati । devIgaNapatissUryaH surAzcAnyepi pArvati 86 ।
Seeing a devotee with the garland of Rudrākṣas, O Pārvatī, Śiva, Viṣṇu, Devī, Gaṇapati, the sun and all the Gods are pleased.

एवं ज्ञात्वा तु माहात्म्यं रुद्रा क्षस्य महेश्वरि । सम्यग्धार्यास्समंत्राश्च भक्त्याधर्मविवृद्धये ८७ ।
evaM jJAtvA tu mAhAtmyaM rudrA kSasya mahezvari । samyagdhAryAssamaMtrAzca bhaktyAdharmavivRddhaye 87 ।
Thus realising its greatness the Rudrākṣa must be worn well, O Maheśvarī, repeating the mantras with devotion to make virtues flourish.

इत्युक्तं गिरिजाग्रे हि शिवेन परमात्मना । भस्मरूद्रा क्षमाहात्म्यं भुक्तिमुक्तिफलप्रदम् ८८ ।
ityuktaM girijAgre hi zivena paramAtmanA । bhasmarUdrA kSamAhAtmyaM bhuktimuktiphalapradam 88 ।
Thus, the greatness of ash and Rudrākṣa that bestow worldly pleasures and salvation, was explained to Girijā by Śiva, the supreme soul.

zivasyAtipriyau jJeyau bhasmarudrA kSadhAriNau । taddhAraNaprabhAvaddhi bhuktirmuktirna saMzayaH 89 ।
The persons who apply ash and wear Rudrākṣa are great favourites of Śiva. Enjoyment of worldly pleasures and salvation are certainly due to their influence.

vinA bhasmatripuMDreNa vinA rudrA kSamAlayA । pUjitopi mahAdevo nAbhISTaphaladAyakaH 91 ।
If Mahādeva is worshipped without the Tripuṇḍra of ash and without the garland of Rudrākṣa, he does not bestow the fruit of cherished desire.

Thus, O lord of sages, whatever has been asked has now been explained. The greatness of ash and Rudrākṣa bestows the luxuriant fulfilment of all desires.

etadyaH zRNuyAnnityaM mAhAtmyaparamaM zubham । rudrA kSabhasmanorbhaktyAsarvAnkAmAnavApnuyAt 93 ।
He who regularly listens to the highly auspicious greatness of ash and Rudrākṣa with devotion shall attain the fulfilment of all desires.

iha sarvasukhaM bhuktvA putrapautrAdisaMyutaH । labhetparatra sanmokSaM zivasyAtipriyo bhavet 94 ।
He will enjoy all happiness here. He will be blessed with sons and grandsons. In the next world he will attain salvation. He will be a great favourite of Śiva.

vidyezvarasaMhiteyaM kathitA vo munIzvarAH । sarvasiddhipradA nityaM muktidA zivazAsanAt 95 ।
O lordly sages, thus the compendium of Vidyeśvara-saṃhitā has been narrated to you all. As ordered by Śiva it bestows achievement of everything and salvation.
