RSaya UcuH । dezAdInkramazo brUhi sUta sarvArthavittam । sUta uvAca । zuddhaM gRhaM samaphalaM devayajJAdikarmasu 1 ।
The sages said: O Sūta, foremost among those who know everything, please expound to us the place etc. Sūta said: The pure house accords normal benefit in the rites of Devayajña etc.

ततो दशगुणं गोष्ठं जलतीरं ततो दश । ततो दशगुणं बिल्वतुलस्यश्वत्थमूलकम् २ ।
tato dazaguNaM goSThaM jalatIraM tato daza । tato dazaguNaM bilvatulasyazvatthamUlakam 2 ।
The cowshed is of ten times more benefit than that. The bank of a tank is of ten times more benefit than that and the root of Tulasi plant or of Bilva or Aśvattha trees is again of ten times more benefit than that.

ततो देवालयं विद्यात्तीर्थतीरं ततो दश । ततो दशगुणं नद्यास्तीर्थनद्यास्ततो दश ३ ।
tato devAlayaM vidyAttIrthatIraM tato daza । tato dazaguNaM nadyAstIrthanadyAstato daza 3 ।
Then the temple of knowledge is the most sacred. After that, the pilgrimage at the banks of sacred rivers is next. Following that, the river itself is ten times more powerful than these sacred places.

सप्तगंगानदीतीरं तस्या दशगुणं भवेत् । गंगा गोदावरी चैव कावेरी ताम्रपर्णिका ४ ।
saptagaMgAnadItIraM tasyA dazaguNaM bhavet । gaMgA godAvarI caiva kAverI tAmraparNikA 4 ।
The seven holy Gaṅgās are Gaṅgā, Godāvarī, Kāverī, Tāmraparṇikā, Sindhu, Sarayū and Revā.

siMdhuzca sarayU revA saptagaMgAH prakIrtitAH । tato'bdhitIraM daza ca parvatAgre tato daza 5 ।
The shores of the sea are of ten times more benefit than the previous. The summit of a mountain is of ten times more benefit than the shores of the sea.

सर्वस्मादधिकं ज्ञेयं यत्र वा रोचते मनः । कृते पूर्णफलं ज्ञेयं यज्ञदानादिकं तथा ६ ।
sarvasmAdadhikaM jJeyaM yatra vA rocate manaH । kRte pUrNaphalaM jJeyaM yajJadAnAdikaM tathA 6 ।
The greatest knowledge is that which resonates with the mind. The complete and ultimate result is known to be achieved through rituals such as sacrifices, charity, and other sacred acts.

त्रेतायुगे त्रिपादं च द्वापरेऽर्धं सदा स्मृतम् । कलौ पादं तु विज्ञेयं तत्पादोनं ततोर्द्धके ७ ।
tretAyuge tripAdaM ca dvApare'rdhaM sadA smRtam । kalau pAdaM tu vijJeyaM tatpAdonaM tatorddhake 7 ।
In the Tretā age they yield three-fourths of the benefit. In the age of Dvāpara the benefit derived is half. In the age of Kali only one fourth of the benefit is obtained. When half of the Kali age passes on, the benefit is only three-fourths of this one-fourth.

शुद्धात्मनः शुद्धदिनं पुण्यं समफलं विदुः । तस्माद्दशगुणं ज्ञेयं रविसंक्रमणे बुधाः ८ ।
zuddhAtmanaH zuddhadinaM puNyaM samaphalaM viduH । tasmAddazaguNaM jJeyaM ravisaMkramaNe budhAH 8 ।
A holy day accords a normal benefit to a pure-souled devotee. O Scholars, the period of transit of the sun from one Zodiac to another yields ten times more benefit than that.

विषुवे तद्दशगुणमयने तद्दश स्मृतम् । तद्दश मृगसंक्रांतौ तच्चंद्र ग्रहणे दश ९ ।
viSuve taddazaguNamayane taddaza smRtam । taddaza mRgasaMkrAMtau taccaMdra grahaNe daza 9 ।
The period of equinoxes, the period of tropical transit, the period of transit to the capricornus, and the time of lunar eclipse are each of ten times more benefit than the previous one.

ततश्च सूर्यग्रहणे पूर्णकालोत्तमे विदुः । जगद्रूपस्य सूर्यस्य विषयोगाच्च रोगदम् 1-15-१० ।
tatazca sUryagrahaNe pUrNakAlottame viduH । jagadrUpasya sUryasya viSayogAcca rogadam 1-15-10 ।
The auspicious hour of complete Solar eclipse is of still more benefit, than the previous. Since the sun of cosmic form is infested with poison then, there is the likelihood of ailments spreading.

अतस्तद्विषशांत्यर्थं स्नानदानजपांश्चरेत् । विषशांत्यर्थकालत्वात्स कालः पुण्यदः स्मृतः ११ ।
atastadviSazAMtyarthaM snAnadAnajapAMzcaret । viSazAMtyarthakAlatvAtsa kAlaH puNyadaH smRtaH 11 ।
Hence for the alleviation of the serious effects of poison, the devotee shall observe ceremonial ablutions, offer gifts and mutter prayers. That period is specially holy inasmuch as it is intended for the alleviation of the after-effects of poison.

जन्मर्क्षे च व्रतांते च सूर्यरागोपमं विदुः । महतां संगकालश्च कोट्यर्कग्रहणं विदुः १२ ।
janmarkSe ca vratAMte ca sUryarAgopamaM viduH । mahatAM saMgakAlazca koTyarkagrahaNaM viduH 12 ।
The birth-star, and the concluding period of holy rites are of the same efficacy as the period of Solar eclipse. The time spent in the company of noble holy men is of the efficacy of crores of solar eclipses.

तपोनिष्ठा ज्ञाननिष्ठा योगिनो यतयस्तथा । पूजायाः पात्रमेते हि पापसंक्षयकारणम् १३ ।
taponiSThA jJAnaniSThA yogino yatayastathA । pUjAyAH pAtramete hi pApasaMkSayakAraNam 13 ।
Persons of unflinching devotion to austerities and perfect knowledge, yogins and ascetics deserve holy worship since they quell others’ sins.

चतुर्विंशतिलक्षं वा गायत्र्या जपसंयुतः । ब्राह्मणस्तु भवेत्पात्रं संपूर्णफलभोगदम् १४ ।
caturviMzatilakSaM vA gAyatryA japasaMyutaH । brAhmaNastu bhavetpAtraM saMpUrNaphalabhogadam 14 ।
A brahmin who has repeated the Gāyatrī mantra two million four hundred thousand times also deserves the same and accords full benefit and wordly enjoyments.

पतनात्त्रायत इति पात्रं शास्त्रे प्रयुज्यते । दातुश्च पातकात्त्राणात्पात्रमित्यभिधीयते १५ ।
patanAttrAyata iti pAtraM zAstre prayujyate । dAtuzca pAtakAttrANAtpAtramityabhidhIyate 15 ।
The word Pātra (one who deserves) means one who protects the giver from downfall.

गायकं त्रायते पाताद्गायत्रीत्युच्यते हि सा । यथाऽर्थहिनो लोकेऽस्मिन्परस्यार्थं न यच्छति १६ ।
gAyakaM trAyate pAtAdgAyatrItyucyate hi sA । yathA'rthahino loke'sminparasyArthaM na yacchati 16 ।
The word Gāyatrī means that which saves the reciter from downfall. Only a person of purified soul can save others, just as only a rich man can donate anything to others.

अर्थवानिह यो लोके परस्यार्थं प्रयच्छति । स्वयं शुद्धो हि पूतात्मा नरान्संत्रातुमर्हति १७ ।
arthavAniha yo loke parasyArthaM prayacchati । svayaM zuddho hi pUtAtmA narAnsaMtrAtumarhati 17 ।
The one who is wealthy in this world and gives for the welfare of others, and who himself is pure and has a purified soul, is worthy of saving others.

गायकं त्रायते पाताद्गायत्रीत्युच्यते हि सा ।गायत्रीजपशुद्धो हि शुद्धब्राह्मण उच्यते । तस्माद्दाने जपे होमे पूजायां सर्वकर्मणि १८ ।
gAyakaM trAyate pAtAdgAyatrItyucyate hi sA ।gAyatrIjapazuddho hi zuddhabrAhmaNa ucyate । tasmAddAne jape home pUjAyAM sarvakarmaNi 18 ।
The one who chants the Gāyatrī mantra is protected from all dangers, and that mantra is known as the Gāyatrī. A person who recites the Gāyatrī mantra with purity is called a pure Brahmana. Therefore, in all acts such as charity, chanting, sacrifices, and worship, one should always be devoted.

दानं कर्तुं तथा त्रातुं पात्रं तु ब्राह्मणोर्हति । अन्नस्य क्षुधितं पात्रं नारीनरमयात्मकम् १९ ।
dAnaM kartuM tathA trAtuM pAtraM tu brAhmaNorhati । annasya kSudhitaM pAtraM nArInaramayAtmakam 19 ।
In order to perform charity and offer protection, the recipient must be a Brahmana. The recipient should be one who is hungry, as well as a person whose body and soul are aligned with purity—whether they are men or women.

ब्राह्मणं श्रेष्ठमाहूय यत्काले सुसमाहितम् । तदर्थं शब्दमर्थं वा सद्बोधकमभीष्टदम् 1-15-२० ।
brAhmaNaM zreSThamAhUya yatkAle susamAhitam । tadarthaM zabdamarthaM vA sadbodhakamabhISTadam 1-15-20 ।
An excellent brahmin must be invited on an auspicious occasion and given sufficient sums of money with piety and pleasing words. They accord all desired results.

इच्छावतः प्रदानं च संपूर्णफलदं विदुः । यत्प्रश्नानंतरं दत्तं तदर्धं फलदं विदुः २१ ।
icchAvataH pradAnaM ca saMpUrNaphaladaM viduH । yatpraznAnaMtaraM dattaM tadardhaM phaladaM viduH 21 ।
A charitable gift given to a needy person yields the utmost benefit. If it is given after entreaties it yields only half the benefit.

यत्सेवकाय दत्तं स्यात्तत्पादफलदं विदुः । जातिमात्रस्य विप्रस्य दीनवृत्तेर्द्विजर्षभाः २२ ।
yatsevakAya dattaM syAttatpAdaphaladaM viduH । jAtimAtrasya viprasya dInavRtterdvijarSabhAH 22 ।
Monetary gifts to servants accord only one-fourth benefit. O excellent brahmins, charitable gifts to an indigent person, only because he is born a brahmin, accord worldly enjoyment for ten years.

dattamarthaM hi bhogAya bhUrlokedazavArSikam । vedayuktasya viprasya svarge hi dazavArSikam 23 ।
Gifts to a brahmin Vedic scholar accord heavenly enjoyment for ten years.

gAyatrIjapayuktasya satye hi dazavArSikam । viSNubhaktasya viprasya dattaM vaikuMThadaM viduH 24 ।
Gifts to a brahmin who regularly repeats Gāyatrī mantra, accord Satyaloka for ten years. Gifts to a brahmin devotee of Viṣṇu accord Vaikuṇṭha Loka.

शिवभक्तस्य विप्रस्य दत्तं कैलासदं विदुः । तत्तल्लोकोपभोगार्थं सर्वेषां दानमिष्यते २५ ।
zivabhaktasya viprasya dattaM kailAsadaM viduH । tattallokopabhogArthaM sarveSAM dAnamiSyate 25 ।
Gifts to a brahmin devotee of Śiva accord Kailāsa. All kinds of gifts accord enjoyments in the different Lokas.

दशांगमन्नं विप्रस्य भानुवारे ददन्नरः । परजन्मनि चारोग्यं दशवर्षं समश्नुते २६ ।
dazAMgamannaM viprasya bhAnuvAre dadannaraH । parajanmani cArogyaM dazavarSaM samaznute 26 ।
A person who gives cooked food attended with the ten ancillary services, on a Sunday, attains good health for ten years even in the next birth.

बहुमानमथाह्वानमभ्यंगं पादसेवनम् । वासो गंधाद्यर्चनं च घृतापूपरसोत्तरम् २७ ।
bahumAnamathAhvAnamabhyaMgaM pAdasevanam । vAso gaMdhAdyarcanaM ca ghRtApUparasottaram 27 ।
The ten ancillary services are—Honouring, inviting, providing oil bath, washing and serving the feet, bestowing cloth, scents etc, serving side dishes of six tastes, pancakes prepared in ghee and sweet juices.

षड्रसं व्यंजनं चैव तांबूलं दक्षिणोत्तरम् । नमश्चानुगमश्चैव स्वन्नदानं दशांगकम् २८ ।
SaDrasaM vyaMjanaM caiva tAMbUlaM dakSiNottaram । namazcAnugamazcaiva svannadAnaM dazAMgakam 28 ।
Betel leaves, monetary gifts, formal farewell and following a few steps—This is called Daśāṅga Annadāna.

दशांगमन्नं विप्रेभ्यो दशभ्यो वै ददन्नरः । अर्कवारे तथाऽऽरोग्यं शतवर्षं समश्नुते २९ ।
dazAMgamannaM viprebhyo dazabhyo vai dadannaraH । arkavAre tathA''rogyaM zatavarSaM samaznute 29 ।
A man who renders ten sorts of ancillary services to ten brahmins on Sunday attains good health for a hundred years.

सोमवारादिवारेषु तत्तद्वारगुणं फलम् । अन्नदानस्य विज्ञेयं भूर्लोके परजन्मनि 1-15-३० ।
somavArAdivAreSu tattadvAraguNaM phalam । annadAnasya vijJeyaM bhUrloke parajanmani 1-15-30 ।
If he gives the same on Monday or any other day, he attains the benefit as stipulated for that day. The benefit of food-gifts is secured in this world itself either in this birth or in the next.

सप्तस्वपि च वारेषु दशभ्यश्च दशांगकम् । अन्नं दत्त्वा शतं वर्षमारोग्यादिकमश्नुते ३१ ।
saptasvapi ca vAreSu dazabhyazca dazAMgakam । annaM dattvA zataM varSamArogyAdikamaznute 31 ।
If in this manner he gives food on all the seven days to ten brahmins he secures good health and all other benefits for a hundred years.

एवं शतेभ्यो विप्रेभ्यो भानुवारे ददन्नरः । सहस्रवर्षमारोग्यं शर्वलोके समश्नुते ३२ ।
evaM zatebhyo viprebhyo bhAnuvAre dadannaraH । sahasravarSamArogyaM zarvaloke samaznute 32 ।
Similarly he who gives cooked rice in this manner to hundred brahmins on Sunday secures good health in Śivaloka for a thousand years.

सहस्रेभ्यस्तथा दत्त्वाऽयुतवर्षं समश्नुते । एवं सोमादिवारेषु विज्ञेयं हि विपश्चिता ३३ ।
sahasrebhyastathA dattvA'yutavarSaM samaznute । evaM somAdivAreSu vijJeyaM hi vipazcitA 33 ।
If he gives the same for a thousand brahmins he secures the benefit for ten thousand years. Similarly the benefit accrued for gifts on Monday and other days can be understood by a thoughtful man.

भानुवारे सहस्राणां गायत्रीपूतचेतसाम् । अन्नं दत्त्वा सत्यलोके ह्यारोग्यादि समश्नुते ३४ ।
bhAnuvAre sahasrANAM gAyatrIpUtacetasAm । annaM dattvA satyaloke hyArogyAdi samaznute 34 ।
By giving food to a thousand brahmins whose minds have been purified by Gāyatrī, on Sunday, the devotee attains good health and other benefits in Satyaloka.

अयुतानां तथा दत्त्वा विष्णुलोके समश्नुते । अन्नं दत्त्वा तु लक्षाणां रुद्र लोके समश्नुते ३५ ।
ayutAnAM tathA dattvA viSNuloke samaznute । annaM dattvA tu lakSANAM rudra loke samaznute 35 ।
By giving food to ten thousand persons he secures the benefits in Viṣṇuloka. By giving it to a hundred thousand persons he derives benefits in Rudraloka.

बालानां ब्रह्मबुद्ध्या हि देयं विद्यार्थिभिर्नरैः । यूनां च विष्णुबुद्ध्या हि पुत्रकामार्थिभिर्नरैः ३६ ।
bAlAnAM brahmabuddhyA hi deyaM vidyArthibhirnaraiH । yUnAM ca viSNubuddhyA hi putrakAmArthibhirnaraiH 36 ।
Those who seek learning must make gifts to children considering them on a par with Brahmā. Those who seek sons and other ends must make gifts to young men considering them on a par with Viṣṇu.

वृद्धानां रुद्र बुद्ध्या हि देयं ज्ञानार्थिभिर्नरैः । बालस्त्रीभारतीबुद्ध्या बुद्धिकामैर्नरोत्तमैः ३७ ।
vRddhAnAM rudra buddhyA hi deyaM jJAnArthibhirnaraiH । bAlastrIbhAratIbuddhyA buddhikAmairnarottamaiH 37 ।
Those who seek knowledge must make gifts to old men considering them on a par with Rudra. Those who seek intellect must make gifts to young maidens considering them on a par with Bhāratī (Goddess of Speech).

लक्ष्मीबुद्ध्या युवस्त्रीषु भोगकामैर्नरोत्तमैः । वृद्धासु पार्वतीबुद्ध्या देयमात्मार्थिभिर्जनैः ३८ ।
lakSmIbuddhyA yuvastrISu bhogakAmairnarottamaiH । vRddhAsu pArvatIbuddhyA deyamAtmArthibhirjanaiH 38 ।
Excellent men seeking enjoyments must make gifts to youthful maidens considering them on a par with Lakṣmī (Goddess of Wealth). Those who seek purity of Ātman must make gifts to old women considering them on a par with) Pārvatī.

शिलवृत्त्योञ्छवृत्त्या च गुरुदक्षिणयार्जितम् । शुद्धद्रव्यमिति प्राहुस्तत्पूर्णफलदं विदुः ३९ ।
zilavRttyoJchavRttyA ca gurudakSiNayArjitam । zuddhadravyamiti prAhustatpUrNaphaladaM viduH 39 ।
That which is acquired by gleaning more than one ear of corn at a time or gleaning corns one by one, by fees received from disciple is called Śuddhadravya (clean wealth). This wealth yields complete benefit.

शुक्लप्रतिग्रहाद्दत्तं मध्यमं द्रव्यमुच्यते । कृषिवाणिज्यकोपेतमधमं द्रव्यमुच्यते 1-15-४० ।
zuklapratigrahAddattaM madhyamaM dravyamucyate । kRSivANijyakopetamadhamaM dravyamucyate 1-15-40 ।
Wealth acquired by acceptance of monetary gifts is called middlesome wealth. Wealth acquired by agricultural or trading activities is called lowliest wealth.

क्षत्रियाणां विशां चैव शौर्यवाणिज्यकार्जितम् । उत्तमं द्रव्यमित्याहुः शूद्राणां भृतकार्जितम् ४१ ।
kSatriyANAM vizAM caiva zauryavANijyakArjitam । uttamaM dravyamityAhuH zUdrANAM bhRtakArjitam 41 ।
Wealth acquired by Kṣatriyas using their valour or Vaiśyas by trading activities is called excellent. So also the wealth acquired by the Śūdras by salaries for service.

स्त्रीणां धर्मार्थिनां द्रव्यं पैतृकं भर्तृकं तथा । गवादीनां द्वादशीनां चैत्रादिषु यथाक्रमम् ४२ ।
strINAM dharmArthinAM dravyaM paitRkaM bhartRkaM tathA । gavAdInAM dvAdazInAM caitrAdiSu yathAkramam 42 ।
The wealth of women who are seeking righteousness and prosperity (dharma-arthinām) should be inherited from the paternal (paitṛka) and husband’s (bhartṛka) sides. Similarly, the offerings made to cows, and the twelve (dvādaśī) offerings should be made in the month of Chaitra, and according to the prescribed order.

संभूय वा पुण्यकाले दद्यादिष्टसमृद्धये । गोभूतिलहिरण्याज्यवासोधान्यगुडानि च ४३ ।
saMbhUya vA puNyakAle dadyAdiSTasamRddhaye । gobhUtilahiraNyAjyavAsodhAnyaguDAni ca 43 ।
At an auspicious time (punyakalē), one should give away cows, land, gold, ghee, grains, jaggery, and other items for spiritual merit and material prosperity.

क्षत्रियाणां विशां चैव शौर्यवाणिज्यकार्जितम् । उत्तमं द्रव्यमित्याहुः शूद्राणां भृतकार्जितम् ४१ ।रौप्यं लवणकूष्मांडे कन्याद्वादशकं तथा । गोदानाद्दत्तगव्येन गोमयेनोपकारिणा ४४ ।
kSatriyANAM vizAM caiva zauryavANijyakArjitam । uttamaM dravyamityAhuH zUdrANAM bhRtakArjitam 41 ।raupyaM lavaNakUSmAMDe kanyAdvAdazakaM tathA । godAnAddattagavyena gomayenopakAriNA 44 ।
For Kshatriyas and for the people of the village, wealth earned through valor, commerce, and business is considered the best. For Shudras, the wealth earned through servitude is considered. Silver, salt, mustard seeds, and the dowry (the gift given at marriage), as well as cows, when given in charity, should be accompanied by cow dung or other useful forms of helpful charity.

धनधान्याद्याश्रितानां दुरितानां निवारणम् । जलस्नेहाद्याश्रितानां दुरितानां तु गोजलैः ४५ ।
dhanadhAnyAdyAzritAnAM duritAnAM nivAraNam । jalasnehAdyAzritAnAM duritAnAM tu gojalaiH 45 ।
For those dependent on wealth and grains, the removal of misfortune (durgati) can be accomplished through water. For those dependent on cows and milk, misfortune can be removed through the use of cow's water (gōjalai).

कायिकादित्राणां तु क्षीरदध्याज्यकैस्तथा । तथा तेषां च पुष्टिश्च विज्ञेया हि विपश्चिता ४६ ।
kAyikAditrANAM tu kSIradadhyAjyakaistathA । tathA teSAM ca puSTizca vijJeyA hi vipazcitA 46 ।
The three kinds of sins—physical etc. are warded off by milk, curd and ghee. Their nourishment can be understood by scholars.

bhUdAnaM tu pratiSThArthamiha cA'mutra ca dvijAH । tiladAnaM balArthaM hi sadA mRtyujayaM viduH 47 ।
Gift of plots of land is conducive to stability here and hereafter, O brahmins. Gift of gingelly seeds is conducive to strength and to the conquest of premature death.

hiraNyaM jATharAgnestu vRddhidaM vIryadaM tathA । AjyaM puSTikaraM vidyAdvastramAyuSkaraM viduH 48 ।
Gift of gold increases the power of the gastric fire and is conducive to virility. Gift of ghee is nourishing and that of cloth is conducive to long life.

धान्यमन्नं समृद्ध्यर्थं मधुराहारदं गुडम् । रौप्यं रेतोभिवृद्ध्यर्थं षड्रसार्थं तु लावणम् ४९ ।
dhAnyamannaM samRddhyarthaM madhurAhAradaM guDam । raupyaM retobhivRddhyarthaM SaDrasArthaM tu lAvaNam 49 ।
Gift of food-grains is conducive to the increase of food production. Gift of jaggery yields sweet food. Gift of silver is conducive to the increase in the quantity of semen and that of salt is conducive to the happy admixture of the six tastes.

sarvaM sarvasamRddhyarthaM kUSmAMDaM puSTidaM viduH । prAptidaM sarvabhogAnAmiha cA'mutra ca dvijAH 1-15-50 ।
The gift of pumpkin gourd is conducive to nourishment. All kinds of gifts increase everything and secure all kinds of enjoyment here and hereafter, O brahmins.

yAvajjIvanamuktaM hi kanyAdAnaM tu bhogadam । panasAmrakapitthAnAM vRkSANAM phalameva ca 51 ।
Gift of a virgin is conducive to worldly enjoyment throughout life. Sensible persons shall make gifts of fruits according to the season such as the fruits of jack, mango, wood apple trees.

कदल्याद्यौषधीनां च फलं गुल्मोद्भवं तथा । माषादीनां च मुद्गानां फलं शाकादिकं तथा ५२ ।
kadalyAdyauSadhInAM ca phalaM gulmodbhavaM tathA । mASAdInAM ca mudgAnAM phalaM zAkAdikaM tathA 52 ।
And plantains, fruits from hedges, pulses of black gram, green gram, vegetables, chillies, mustards, their plants etc.

मरीचिसर्षपाद्यानां शाकोपकरणं तथा । यदृतौ यत्फलं सिद्धं तद्देयं हि विपश्चिता ५३ ।
marIcisarSapAdyAnAM zAkopakaraNaM tathA । yadRtau yatphalaM siddhaM taddeyaM hi vipazcitA 53 ।
The Marīci's (a sage or divine figure) Sarsapādya (mustard seed offering) and the shāka (vegetable) offerings are also mentioned as important. The wise (vipashchita) person gives that offering whose result has already been realized (siddha) in the ritual performed.

zrotrAdIMdriyatRptizca sadA deyA vipazcitA । zabdAdidazabhogArthaM digAdInAM ca tuSTidA 54 ।
Sensible men shall gratify the sense-organs of hearing etc. of other people for the gratification through sound etc. It gratifies the quarters too.

वेदशास्त्रं समादाय बुद्ध्वा गुरुमुखात्स्वयम् । कर्मणां फलमस्तीति बुद्धिरास्तिक्यमुच्यते ५५ ।
vedazAstraM samAdAya buddhvA gurumukhAtsvayam । karmaNAM phalamastIti buddhirAstikyamucyate 55 ।
Theism is that feeling in which one fully realises that all actions are fruitful. It is necessary that Vedas and sacred texts should be learnt direct from preceptors.

बंधुराजभयाद्बुद्धिश्रद्धा सा च कनीयसी । सर्वाभावे दरिद्र स्तु वाचा वा कर्मणा यजेत् ५६ ।
baMdhurAjabhayAdbuddhizraddhA sA ca kanIyasI । sarvAbhAve daridra stu vAcA vA karmaNA yajet 56 ।
Devotion to God out of fear for kinsmen or royal punishment is of inferior sort. An indigent person bereft of all means of livelihoods shall worship verbally or by means of physical activities.

वाचिकं यजनं विद्यान्मंत्रस्तोत्रजपादिकम् । तीर्थयात्राव्रताद्यं हि कायिकं यजनं विदुः ५७ ।
vAcikaM yajanaM vidyAnmaMtrastotrajapAdikam । tIrthayAtrAvratAdyaM hi kAyikaM yajanaM viduH 57 ।
Verbal worship means recital of mantras, hymns and Japas. Worship of physical activities means pilgrimages, observance of fast and other rites.

येन केनाप्युपायेन ह्यल्पं वा यदि वा बहु । देवतार्पणबुद्ध्या च कृतं भोगाय कल्पते ५८ ।
yena kenApyupAyena hyalpaM vA yadi vA bahu । devatArpaNabuddhyA ca kRtaM bhogAya kalpate 58 ।
Whatever one does, whether it is great or small, whatever be the means employed,—if that is dedicated to deities it becomes conducive to enjoyment.

तपश्चर्या च दानं च कर्तव्यमुभयं सदा । प्रतिश्रयं प्रदातव्यं स्ववर्णगुणशोभितम् ५९ ।
tapazcaryA ca dAnaM ca kartavyamubhayaM sadA । pratizrayaM pradAtavyaM svavarNaguNazobhitam 59 ।
The two—practice of austerities and making charitable gifts—must be carried out always. Asylum should be given according to the caste of the person concerned.

देवानां तृप्तयेऽत्यर्थं सर्वभोगप्रदं बुधैः । इहाऽमुत्रोत्तमं जन्मसदाभोगं लभेद्बुधः । ईश्वरार्पणबुद्ध्या हि कृत्वा मोक्षफलं लभेत् 1-15-६०
devAnAM tRptaye'tyarthaM sarvabhogapradaM budhaiH । ihA'mutrottamaM janmasadAbhogaM labhedbudhaH । IzvarArpaNabuddhyA hi kRtvA mokSaphalaM labhet 1-15-60
It is conducive to the satisfaction of the Devas and worldly enjoyments as well. Such a devotee shall always attain noble birth and enjoyments here and hereafter. If he performs the sacred rites with dedication to God, he shall attain salvation.

ya imaM paThate'dhyAyaM yaH zRNoti sadA naraH । tasya vaidharmabuddhizca jJAnasiddhiH prajAyate 61 ।
He who reads or hears this chapter becomes righteous and endowed with knowledge.
