Upamanyu said:— Idleness, severe diseases, negligence, doubt about place. Being unsteady in mind, having no faith, seeing delusion.

duHkhAni daurmanasyaM ca viSayeSu ca lolatA ॥ dazaite yuJjatAM puMsAmantarAyAH prakIrtitAH ॥ 2 ॥
Misery, depression and lust for sense gratification. These ten obstacles have been described for those who practice them.

AlasyamalasattvaM tu yoginAM dehacetanoH ॥ dhAtuvaiSamyajA doSA vyAdhayaH karmadoSajAH ॥ 3 ॥
Idleness affects the body and the mind. Ailments are caused by the imbalance of the Dhātus. They are also due to the defective previous Karmans.

pramAdo nAma yogasya sAdhanA nAma bhAvanA ॥ idaM vetyubhayAkrAntaM vijJAnaM sthAnasaMzayaH ॥ 4 ॥
Blunder is the non-contemplation of the means of Yoga. Doubtfulness is the double perception—“this or this?”

Unsteadiness is the inability to stabilise the mind. Lack of faith connotes absence of piety in the path of Yoga,

viparyastA matiryA sA bhrAMtirityabhidhIyate ॥ duHkhamajJAnajaM puMsAM cittasyAdhyAtmikaM viduH ॥ 6 ॥
That which is opposed to the mind is called illusion. It is understood that suffering caused by ignorance is the spiritual cause of the mind.

AdhibhautikamaMgotthaM yacca duHkhaM purA kRtaiH ॥ AdhidaivikamAkhyAtamazanyastraviSAdikam ॥ 7 ॥
The pain caused by the past is the result of the transcendental bliss. It is described as the adhidaivika, the thunderbolt, the weapon and the poison.

icchAvighAtajaM mokSaM daurmanasyaM pracakSate ॥ viSayeSu vicitreSu vibhramastatra lolatA ॥ 8 ॥
Dejectedness is the agitation due to the frustration of desires. Indulgence in diverse sensual objects is the overfondness for them.

शान्तेष्वेतेषु विघ्नेषु योगासक्तस्य योगिनः ॥ उपसर्गाः प्रवर्तंते दिव्यास्ते सिद्धिसूचकाः ॥ ९ ॥
zAnteSveteSu vighneSu yogAsaktasya yoginaH ॥ upasargAH pravartaMte divyAste siddhisUcakAH ॥ 9 ॥
When the obstacles subside and the Yogin is absorbed in Yoga the signs begin to appear. They are divine indications of the imminent success.

प्रतिभा श्रवणं वार्ता दर्शनास्वादवेदनाः ॥ उपसर्गाः षडित्येते व्यये योगस्य सिद्धयः ॥ १० ॥
pratibhA zravaNaM vArtA darzanAsvAdavedanAH ॥ upasargAH SaDityete vyaye yogasya siddhayaH ॥ 10 ॥
The Upasargas are—Pratibhā, Śravaṇa, Vārtā, Darśana, Āsvāda and Vedanā. They are the Siddhis at the expense of Yoga.

सूक्ष्मे व्यवहिते ऽतीते विप्रकृष्टे त्वनागते ॥ प्रतिभा कथ्यते यो ऽर्थे प्रतिभासो यथातथम् ॥ ११ ॥
sUkSme vyavahite 'tIte viprakRSTe tvanAgate ॥ pratibhA kathyate yo 'rthe pratibhAso yathAtatham ॥ 11 ॥
The correct perception of objects whether they be subtle, hidden by other objects, or of bygone days, or situated far off, or not yet born is called Pratibhā.

श्रवणं सर्वशब्दानां श्रवणे चाप्रयत्नतः ॥ वार्त्ता वार्त्तासु विज्ञानं सर्वेषामेव देहिनाम् ॥ १२ ॥
zravaNaM sarvazabdAnAM zravaNe cAprayatnataH ॥ vArttA vArttAsu vijJAnaM sarveSAmeva dehinAm ॥ 12 ॥
Śravaṇa is the ability to hear all sounds without any strain. Vārtā is the knowledge of everything concerning all embodied beings.

दर्शनं नाम दिव्यानां दर्शनं चाप्रयत्नतः ॥ तथास्वादश्च दिव्येषु रसेष्वास्वाद उच्यते ॥ १३ ॥
darzanaM nAma divyAnAM darzanaM cAprayatnataH ॥ tathAsvAdazca divyeSu raseSvAsvAda ucyate ॥ 13 ॥
Darśana is the ability to see all divine objects without difficulty. Similarly, Āsvāda is the ability to taste divine delicacies.

स्पर्शनाधिगमस्तद्वद्वेदना नाम विश्रुता ॥ गन्धादीनां च दिव्यानामाब्रह्मभुवनाधिपाः ॥ १४ ॥
sparzanAdhigamastadvadvedanA nAma vizrutA ॥ gandhAdInAM ca divyAnAmAbrahmabhuvanAdhipAH ॥ 14 ॥
The sensation of touch is also known as pain. They are the masters of the divine worlds, such as Gandha and others.

संतिष्ठन्ते च रत्नानि प्रयच्छंति बहूनि च ॥ स्वच्छन्दमधुरा वाणी विविधास्यात्प्रवर्तते ॥ १५ ॥
saMtiSThante ca ratnAni prayacchaMti bahUni ca ॥ svacchandamadhurA vANI vividhAsyAtpravartate ॥ 15 ॥
They remained there and gave away many gems. A sweet, sweet voice emanates from a variety of sources at its own free will.

rasAyanAni sarvANi divyAzcauSadhayastathA ॥ sidhyaMti praNipatyainaM dizaMti surayoSitaH ॥ 16 ॥
The divine potions, aphrodisiacs and divine medicines are offered to him by celestial damsels who pay him their homage.

योगसिद्ध्यैकदेशे ऽपि दृष्टे मोक्षे भवेन्मतिः ॥ दृष्टमेतन्मया यद्वत्तद्वन्मोक्षो भवेदिति ॥ १७ ॥
yogasiddhyaikadeze 'pi dRSTe mokSe bhavenmatiH ॥ dRSTametanmayA yadvattadvanmokSo bhavediti ॥ 17 ॥
Though this is only a fraction of the Siddhis of Yoga, when this is done he will have confidence in salvation: “This has been seen by me. In the same manner salvation too shall occur.”

kRzatA sthUlatA bAlyaM vArdhakyaM caiva yauvanam ॥ nAnAcAtisvarUpaM ca caturNAM dehadhAraNam ॥ 18 ॥
Thinness, obesity, childhood, old age and youth. The four bodies of the Supreme Personality of Godhead are manifest in various forms.

pArthivAMzaM vinA nityaM surabhirgandhasaMgrahaH ॥ evamaSTaguNaM prAhuH paizAcaM pArthivaM padam ॥ 19 ॥
Without a portion of the earth, the fragrance is always a collection of fragrances. Thus it is said that the eightfold position of the devil is earthly.

jale nivasanaM caiva bhUmyAmevaM vinirgamaH ॥ icchecchaktaH svayaM pAtuM samudramapi nAturaH ॥ 20 ॥
Living in water and emerging from the earth He wishes to be able to pour himself into the ocean without being disturbed.

यत्रेच्छति जगत्यस्मिंस्तत्रैव जलदर्शनम् ॥ विना कुम्भादिकं पाणौ जलसञ्चयधारणम् ॥ २१ ॥
yatrecchati jagatyasmiMstatraiva jaladarzanam ॥ vinA kumbhAdikaM pANau jalasaJcayadhAraNam ॥ 21 ॥
Wherever one wishes to see water in this world, one can see it. Without a pot or other object, one should hold a reservoir of water in one’s hand.

यद्वस्तु विरसञ्चापि भोक्तुमिच्छति तत्क्षणात् ॥ रसादिकं भवेच्चान्यत्त्रयाणां देहधारणम् ॥ २२ ॥
yadvastu virasaJcApi bhoktumicchati tatkSaNAt ॥ rasAdikaM bhaveccAnyattrayANAM dehadhAraNam ॥ 22 ॥
Whatever he desires to enjoy immediately, even if it is tasteless. Other things, such as taste, should be used to hold the body of the three.

The body is free from wounds and is accompanied by earthly substances. That is the wonderful opulence of the sixteenth manifestation.

शरीरादग्निनिर्माणं तत्तापभयवर्जनम् ॥ शक्तिर्जगदिदं दग्धुं यदीच्छेदप्रयत्नतः ॥ २४ ॥
zarIrAdagninirmANaM tattApabhayavarjanam ॥ zaktirjagadidaM dagdhuM yadIcchedaprayatnataH ॥ 24 ॥
It creates fire from the body and avoids the fear of suffering. If you try to cut it off, you have the power to burn this world to the ground.

sthApanaM vAnalasyA 'psu pANau pAvakadhAraNam ॥ dagdhe sarge yathApUrvaM mukhe cAnnAdipAcanam ॥ dvAbhyAM dehavinirmANamApyaizvaryasamanvitam ॥ 25 ॥
Placing the fire in the water and holding the fire in the hands. When the body is burnt, food and other things should be digested in the mouth as before. By these two means the body was created, and it was endowed with opulence.

There are twenty-four kinds of material energy. The speed of the mind is the instantaneous penetration of beings.

Without effort he carried heavy loads such as mountains Heavy and light, holding the air in your hands.

The ground was also shaken by the dropping of the tips of the fingers. The origin of the body is enjoyed by one’s own energy and by one’s own energy.

Flying in the sky as desired is the combination of sense objects They also crossed the sky and inhabited their own bodies.

The sky is clumped and disembodied. It is forty-four times greater than the opulence of the wind.

The sky is described as the opulence of Indra. The perception of desire is the same as the fulfillment of desire.

He is the victory of all and the vision of all mysteries. Creation according to action, submission, pleasing to the eye.

Seeing the material world accompanied by the pleasures of Indra This moon’s opulence is greater than the mental quality of the moon.

Cutting, beating, binding and releasing It is the grasping of all living beings under the control of material existence.

He showed mercy to all and conquered the time of death The self-realized opulence is called Prājāpati.

etaccAndramasairbhogaiH SaTpaJcAzadguNaM mahat ॥ sargaH saMkalpamAtreNa trANaM saMharaNaM tathA ॥ 37॥
This is fifty-six times greater than the moon’s enjoyment. Creation, salvation and annihilation are by mere resolution.

The right to self-determination is the initiation of the minds of all beings. There is no similarity in the creation of everything separately from the universe.

It is the instrument of good and evil and is accompanied by the Prājāpatis. They also describe the sixty-fourfold opulence of the brāhmaṇas.

bauddhAdasmAtparaM gauNamaizvaryaM prAkRtaM viduH ॥ vaiSNavaM tatsamAkhyAtaM tasyaiva bhuvanasthitiH ॥ brahmaNA tatpadaM sarvaM vaktumanyairna zakyate ॥ 40 ॥
