Izvara uvAca ॥ AjJAhInaM kriyAhInaM zraddhAhInaM varAnane ॥ AjJArthaM dakSiNAhInaM sadA japtaM ca niSphalam ॥ 1 ॥
Lord Śiva said:— O good-faced lady, a Japa without the behest of the preceptor, holy rites, faith and the prescribed fees is fruitless though the behest might have been secured.

AjJAsiddhaM kriyAsiddhaM zraddhAsiddhaM mamAtmakam ॥ evaM ceddakSiNAyuktaM maMtrasiddhirmahatphalam ॥ 2 ॥
If a mantra is well practised with the acquisition of behest, attended with holy rites, equipped with faith in me and accompanied by fee it is greatly efficacious.

उपगम्य गुरुं विप्रमाचार्यं तत्त्ववेदिनम् ॥ जापितं सद्गुणोपेतं ध्यानयोगपरायणम् ॥ ३ ॥
upagamya guruM vipramAcAryaM tattvavedinam ॥ jApitaM sadguNopetaM dhyAnayogaparAyaNam ॥ 3 ॥
He approached his spiritual master, a brāhmaṇa and his teacher, who knew the truth. He chanted this mantra and was endowed with the virtues of meditation and yoga.

तोषयेत्तं प्रयत्नेन भावशुद्धिसमन्वितः ॥ वाचा च मनसा चैव कायेन द्रविणेन च ॥ ४ ॥
toSayettaM prayatnena bhAvazuddhisamanvitaH ॥ vAcA ca manasA caiva kAyena draviNena ca ॥ 4 ॥
One should try to please Him with purity of mind. With words, mind, body and wealth.

आचार्यं पूजयेद्विप्रः सर्वदातिप्रयत्नतः ॥ हस्त्यश्वरथरत्नानि क्षेत्राणि च गृहाणि च ॥ ५ ॥
AcAryaM pUjayedvipraH sarvadAtiprayatnataH ॥ hastyazvaratharatnAni kSetrANi ca gRhANi ca ॥ 5 ॥
A brāhmaṇa should always worship his ācārya with great effort. They also bought elephants, horses, chariots, jewels, fields and houses.

भूषणानि च वासांसि धान्यानि च धनानि च ॥ एतानि गुरवे दद्याद्भक्त्या च विभवे सति ॥ ६ ॥
bhUSaNAni ca vAsAMsi dhAnyAni ca dhanAni ca ॥ etAni gurave dadyAdbhaktyA ca vibhave sati ॥ 6 ॥
They also gave him ornaments, clothing, grain and wealth. If one is able to do so, one should offer these gifts to the spiritual master with devotion.

वित्तशाठ्यं न कुर्वीत यदीच्छेत्सिद्धिमात्मनः ॥ पश्चान्निवेद्य स्वात्मानं गुरवे सपरिच्छदम् ॥ ७ ॥
vittazAThyaM na kurvIta yadIcchetsiddhimAtmanaH ॥ pazcAnnivedya svAtmAnaM gurave saparicchadam ॥ 7 ॥
If one desires self-sufficiency, one should not cheat on finances. Afterwards, he presented himself and his belongings to the spiritual master.

एवं संपूज्य विधिवद्यथाशक्तित्ववंचयन् ॥ आददीत गुरोर्मंत्रं ज्ञानं चैव क्रमेण तु ॥ ८ ॥
evaM saMpUjya vidhivadyathAzaktitvavaMcayan ॥ AdadIta gurormaMtraM jJAnaM caiva krameNa tu ॥ 8 ॥
Thus worshiping the Lord according to the prescribed rituals, he cheated Him according to his ability. Gradually one should chant the mantras and knowledge of the spiritual master.

एवं तुष्टो गुरुः शिष्यं पूजकं वत्सरोषितम् ॥ शुश्रूषुमनहंकारं स्नातं शुचिमुपोषितम् ॥ ९ ॥
evaM tuSTo guruH ziSyaM pUjakaM vatsaroSitam ॥ zuzrUSumanahaMkAraM snAtaM zucimupoSitam ॥ 9 ॥
The spiritual master was thus satisfied with the disciple who worshiped him for a year. He should serve them without egoism, bathe, purify himself and fast.

स्नापयित्वा विशुद्ध्यर्थं पूर्णकुंभघृतेन वै ॥ जलेन मन्त्रशुद्धेन पुण्यद्रव्ययुतेन च ॥ १० ॥
snApayitvA vizuddhyarthaM pUrNakuMbhaghRtena vai ॥ jalena mantrazuddhena puNyadravyayutena ca ॥ 10 ॥
After bathing the child with a full pot of ghee, one should purify himself. Water purified by chanting mantras and mixed with pious objects should be offered.

alaMkRtya suveSaM ca gaMdhasragvastrabhUSaNaiH ॥ puNyAhaM vAcayitvA ca brAhmaNAnabhipUjya ca ॥ 11 ॥
She adorned herself with beautiful clothes and fragrant flowers garlands clothes and ornaments After reciting the holy mantra and worshiping the brāhmaṇas.

समुद्रतीरे नद्यां च गोष्ठे देवालये ऽपि वा ॥ शुचौ देशे गृहे वापि काले सिद्धिकरे तिथौ ॥ १२ ॥
samudratIre nadyAM ca goSThe devAlaye 'pi vA ॥ zucau deze gRhe vApi kAle siddhikare tithau ॥ 12 ॥
On the shore of the sea, in a river, in a cowshed or in a temple Whether it is in a clean place or at home, at a time and on a date that brings perfection.

नक्षत्रे शुभयोगे च सर्वदोषविवर्जिते ॥ अनुगृह्य ततो दद्याज्ज्ञानं मम यथाविधि ॥ १३ ॥
nakSatre zubhayoge ca sarvadoSavivarjite ॥ anugRhya tato dadyAjjJAnaM mama yathAvidhi ॥ 13 ॥
If the constellation is in an auspicious conjunction it is free from all evils After showing me mercy, please give me knowledge in accordance with the prescribed method.

स्वरेणोच्चारयेत्सम्यगेकांते ऽतिप्रसन्नधीः ॥ उच्चार्योच्चारयित्वा तमावयोर्मंत्रमुत्तमम् ॥ १४ ॥
svareNoccArayetsamyagekAMte 'tiprasannadhIH ॥ uccAryoccArayitvA tamAvayormaMtramuttamam ॥ 14 ॥
With a very happy mind, one should chant the mantra in a lonely voice. After reciting the best mantra for both of us.

शिवं चास्तु शुभं चास्तु शोभनो ऽस्तु प्रियो ऽस्त्विति ॥ एवं दद्याद्गुरुर्मंत्रमाज्ञां चैव ततः परम् ॥ १५ ॥
zivaM cAstu zubhaM cAstu zobhano 'stu priyo 'stviti ॥ evaM dadyAdgururmaMtramAjJAM caiva tataH param ॥ 15 ॥
May he be auspicious, auspicious, beautiful and dear to me. In this way the spiritual master should chant the mantra and then give the command.

एवं लब्ध्वा गुरोर्मंत्रमाज्ञां चैव समाहितः ॥ संकल्प्य च जपेन्नित्यं पुरश्चरणपूर्वकम् ॥ १६ ॥
evaM labdhvA gurormaMtramAjJAM caiva samAhitaH ॥ saMkalpya ca japennityaM purazcaraNapUrvakam ॥ 16 ॥
Having thus obtained the mantra and command of his spiritual master he remained composed After making this resolution one should chant the mantra daily with the first steps.

यावज्जीवं जपेन्नित्यमष्टोत्तरसहस्रकम् ॥ अनन्यस्तत्परो भूत्वा स याति परमां गतिम् ॥ १७ ॥
yAvajjIvaM japennityamaSTottarasahasrakam ॥ ananyastatparo bhUtvA sa yAti paramAM gatim ॥ 17 ॥
One should chant the mantra 18,000 times daily for the rest of his life. Becoming unalloyed and devoted to Him, he attains the supreme destination.

जपेदक्षरलक्षं वै चतुर्गुणितमादरात् ॥ नक्ताशी संयमी यस्स पौरश्चरणिकः स्मृतः ॥ १८ ॥
japedakSaralakSaM vai caturguNitamAdarAt ॥ naktAzI saMyamI yassa paurazcaraNikaH smRtaH ॥ 18 ॥
One should chant the mantra with great reverence four times as much as one lakh syllables. He who eats nakta and is self-controlled is said to be a citizen of Charanika.

यः पुरश्चरणं कृत्वा नित्यजापी भवेत्पुनः ॥ तस्य नास्ति समो लोके स सिद्धः सिद्धदो भवेत् ॥ १९ ॥
yaH purazcaraNaM kRtvA nityajApI bhavetpunaH ॥ tasya nAsti samo loke sa siddhaH siddhado bhavet ॥ 19 ॥
He who performs the Purascara and chants the mantra daily again. There is no one equal to Him in this world He is the giver of perfection.

स्नानं कृत्वा शुचौ देशे बद्ध्वा रुचिरमानसम् ॥ त्वया मां हृदि संचिंत्य संचिंत्य स्वगुरुं ततः ॥ २० ॥
snAnaM kRtvA zucau deze baddhvA ruciramAnasam ॥ tvayA mAM hRdi saMciMtya saMciMtya svaguruM tataH ॥ 20 ॥
After taking a bath in a clean place he tied up his mind You should meditate on Me within your heart and then meditate on your spiritual master.

उदङ्मुखः प्राङ्मुखो वा मौनी चैकाग्रमानसः ॥ विशोध्य पञ्चतत्त्वानि दहनप्लावनादिभिः ॥ २१ ॥
udaGmukhaH prAGmukho vA maunI caikAgramAnasaH ॥ vizodhya paJcatattvAni dahanaplAvanAdibhiH ॥ 21 ॥
He should face north or east and remain silent with a single mind Purify the five elements by burning, floating and so on.

मन्त्रन्यासादिकं कृत्वा सफलीकृतविग्रहः ॥ आवयोर्विग्रहौ ध्यायन्प्राणापानौ नियम्य च ॥ २२ ॥
mantranyAsAdikaM kRtvA saphalIkRtavigrahaH ॥ Avayorvigrahau dhyAyanprANApAnau niyamya ca ॥ 22 ॥
After chanting mantras and other rituals he made the battle successful He meditated on the conflict between the two of us and controlled his breathing and expiration.

विद्यास्थानं स्वकं रूपमृषिञ्छन्दो ऽधिदैवतम् ॥ बीजं शक्तिं तथा वाक्यं स्मृत्वा पञ्चाक्षरीं जपेत् ॥ २३ ॥
vidyAsthAnaM svakaM rUpamRSiJchando 'dhidaivatam ॥ bIjaM zaktiM tathA vAkyaM smRtvA paJcAkSarIM japet ॥ 23 ॥
The place of knowledge is His own form, and the sage is the Vedic hymn. Remembering the seed, the power and the words, one should chant the five-syllable mantra.

उत्तमं मानसं जाप्यमुपांशुं चैवमध्यमम् ॥ अधमं वाचिकं प्राहुरागमार्थविशारदाः ॥ २४ ॥
uttamaM mAnasaM jApyamupAMzuM caivamadhyamam ॥ adhamaM vAcikaM prAhurAgamArthavizAradAH ॥ 24 ॥
Experts in the meanings of Āgama texts say that the mental Japa is excellent, the Upāṃśu Japa (in a low voice) is the middling. The verbal Japa is of the lowest quality.

उत्तमं रुद्रदैवत्यं मध्यमं विष्णुदैवतम् ॥ अधमं ब्रह्मदैवत्यमित्याहुरनुपूर्वशः ॥ २५ ॥
uttamaM rudradaivatyaM madhyamaM viSNudaivatam ॥ adhamaM brahmadaivatyamityAhuranupUrvazaH ॥ 25 ॥
The Japa with Rudra as the presiding deity is the most excellent, that with Viṣṇu as the presiding deity is the middling and that with Brahmā as the presiding deity is of the lowest quality.

यदुच्चनीचस्वरितैःस्पष्टास्पष्टपदाक्षरैः ॥ मंत्रमुच्चारयेद्वाचा वाचिको ऽयं जपस्स्मृतः ॥ २६ ॥
yaduccanIcasvaritaiHspaSTAspaSTapadAkSaraiH ॥ maMtramuccArayedvAcA vAciko 'yaM japassmRtaH ॥ 26 ॥
The muttering of the mantra with high, low or middle accentuation, the words and the letters being clear or otherwise, is called the verbal japa.

जिह्वामात्रपरिस्पंदादीषदुच्चारितो ऽपि वा ॥ अपरैरश्रुतः किंचिच्छ्रुतो वोपांशुरुच्यते ॥ २७ ॥
jihvAmAtraparispaMdAdISaduccArito 'pi vA ॥ aparairazrutaH kiMcicchruto vopAMzurucyate ॥ 27 ॥
Upāṃśu Japa is the one where the tongue throbs and there is slight utterance. It may not be heard by others or may be slightly heard.

धिया यदक्षरश्रेण्या वर्णाद्वर्णं पदात्पदम् ॥ शब्दार्थचिंतनं भूयः कथ्यते मानसो जपः ॥ २८ ॥
dhiyA yadakSarazreNyA varNAdvarNaM padAtpadam ॥ zabdArthaciMtanaM bhUyaH kathyate mAnaso japaH ॥ 28 ॥
Mental Japa is that where the series of letters are thought well and the wrords and their meanings are pondered over.

वाचिकस्त्वेक एव स्यादुपांशुः शतमुच्यते ॥ साहस्रं मानसः प्रोक्तः सगर्भस्तु शताधिकः ॥ २९ ॥
vAcikastveka eva syAdupAMzuH zatamucyate ॥ sAhasraM mAnasaH proktaH sagarbhastu zatAdhikaH ॥ 29 ॥
If the efficacy of the Vācikajapa is one, that of the Upāṃśu Japa is hundred; that of the Mānasajapa is a thousand; that of the Sagarbha Japa is hundred times more.

प्राणायामसमायुक्तस्सगर्भो जप उच्यते ॥ आद्यंतयोरगर्भो ऽपि प्राणायामः प्रशस्यते ॥ ३० ॥
prANAyAmasamAyuktassagarbho japa ucyate ॥ AdyaMtayoragarbho 'pi prANAyAmaH prazasyate ॥ 30 ॥
The Japa performed with the prāṇāyāma is Sagarbha Japa. In the first and the last even Agarbha Prāṇāyāma is commended.

चत्वारिंशत्समावृत्तीः प्राणानायम्य संस्मरेत् ॥ मंत्रं मंत्रार्थविद्धीमानशक्तः शक्तितो जपेत् ॥ ३१ ॥
catvAriMzatsamAvRttIH prANAnAyamya saMsmaret ॥ maMtraM maMtrArthaviddhImAnazaktaH zaktito japet ॥ 31 ॥
After performing the Prāṇāyāma forty times, the intelligent devotee, knowing the meaning of the mantra, shall remember the mantra. If he is unable to repeat so many times he shall repeat as many times as his physical strength permits him.

पञ्चकं त्रिकमेकं वा प्राणायामं समाचरेत् ॥ अगर्भं वा सगर्भं वा सगर्भस्तत्र शस्यते ॥ ३२ ॥
paJcakaM trikamekaM vA prANAyAmaM samAcaret ॥ agarbhaM vA sagarbhaM vA sagarbhastatra zasyate ॥ 32 ॥
He shall perform five, three or one Prāṇāyāma whether Agarbha or Sagarbha. The Sagarbha Prāṇāyāma is better of the two.

सगर्भादपि साहस्रं सध्यानो जप उच्यते ॥ एषु पञ्चविधेष्वेकः कर्तव्यः शक्तितो जपः ॥ ३३ ॥
sagarbhAdapi sAhasraM sadhyAno japa ucyate ॥ eSu paJcavidheSvekaH kartavyaH zaktito japaH ॥ 33 ॥
The Sadhyāna Japa is a thousand times better than the Sagarbha Japa. One of the five types of Japas shall be performed upto the extent of one’s ability.

अङ्गुल्या जपसंख्यानमेकमेवमुदाहृतम् ॥ रेखयाष्टगुणं विद्यात्पुत्रजीवैर्दशाधिकम् ॥ ३४ ॥
aGgulyA japasaMkhyAnamekamevamudAhRtam ॥ rekhayASTaguNaM vidyAtputrajIvairdazAdhikam ॥ 34 ॥
The number of mantras chanted by the fingers is thus described as one. It is known to be eight times the line and more than ten times the life of the son.

zataM syAcchaMkhamaNibhiH pravAlaistu sahasrakam ॥ sphaTikairdazasAhasraM mauktikairlakSamucyate ॥ 35 ॥
One hundred conchshells and one thousand corals Ten thousand crystals are equal to one lakh pearls.

पद्माक्षैर्दशलक्षन्तु सौवर्णैः कोटिरुच्यते ॥ कुशग्रंथ्या च रुद्राक्षैरनंतगुणितं भवेत् ॥ ३६ ॥
padmAkSairdazalakSantu sauvarNaiH koTirucyate ॥ kuzagraMthyA ca rudrAkSairanaMtaguNitaM bhavet ॥ 36 ॥
Ten lakhs of lotus-eyes are equal to one crore of golden earrings. With a knot of kuśa grass and Rudrakṣas, one should chant infinitely many times.

triMzadakSaiH kRtA mAlA dhanadA japakarmaNi ॥ saptaviMzatisaMkhyAtairakSaiH puSTipradA bhavet ॥ 37 ॥
Thirty Dakṣas made a garland for Kubera in the ritual of chanting mantras It is auspicious to nourish the devotees with twenty-seven axes.

पञ्चविंशतिसंख्यातैः कृता मुक्तिं प्रयच्छति ॥ अक्षैस्तु पञ्चदशभिरभिचारफलप्रदा ॥ ३८ ॥
paJcaviMzatisaMkhyAtaiH kRtA muktiM prayacchati ॥ akSaistu paJcadazabhirabhicAraphalapradA ॥ 38 ॥
The twenty-five numbers of these are the signs of liberation. The fifteen axes are the fruits of adultery.

अंगुष्ठं मोक्षदं विद्यात्तर्जनीं शत्रुनाशिनीम् ॥ मध्यमां धनदां शांतिं करोत्येषा ह्यनामिका ॥ ३९ ॥
aMguSThaM mokSadaM vidyAttarjanIM zatrunAzinIm ॥ madhyamAM dhanadAM zAMtiM karotyeSA hyanAmikA ॥ 39 ॥
The thumb used in counting the number bestows salvation. The index finger destroys enemies. The middle finger bestows wealth. The ring finger brings about calmness and peace.

aSTottarazataM mAlA tatra syAduttamottamA ॥ zatasaMkhyottamA mAlA paJcAzadbhistu madhyamA ॥ 40 ॥
There should be 180 garlands of the best of the best. The best garland is one hundred in number, and the middle one is fifty in number.

The fifty-four Dakṣas have described the heart as the best of all. One should thus chant the mantra with a garland and show it to no one.

The use of little finger in the Japa shall be avoided. In the act ot Japa it is held to be auspicious. The Japa shall be performed by means of the thumb in contact with other fingers.

If Japa is performed without the thumb it is futile. If performed in the house it is ordinarily efficacious. If performed in the cowpen it is hundred times more.

In a holy forest or park it is thousand times more. On a holy mountain it is ten thousand times more. On the banks of a river it is hundred thousand times more.

They say that there are millions of people in the temple who are infinite in My presence. The sun, fire, spiritual master, Indra, lamp and water are all the same.

It is recommended to chant the mantra in the presence of brāhmaṇas and cows The east side of the body is subdued and the southern side is covered with adultery.

One should not be averse to chanting the mantra for others who are attached to it. He was wearing a warm robe and was humble, his hair loose and his neck covered.

If one is unclean or impure, he should sometimes chant the mantra while lamenting. Anger, intoxication and hunger are the three modes of material nature.

One should avoid seeing lowly dogs while chanting the mantra. Whenever possible, one should perform ablutions for them or remember Me with you.

One should also observe the lights or exercise restraint on the breath. Whether he is sitting or lying down, walking or getting up.

One should not chant this mantra on the street, in an inauspicious place or in the middle of darkness. One should not chant the mantra by spreading one’s feet or sitting on a chicken seat.

Whether he is sitting on a carriage bed or is agitated by anxiety If he is able to do so he should chant all these mantras if he is unable to do so.

Of what avail is much talk? Hear these words in brief. A person of good conduct, performing Japa and meditating purely attains welfare.

Good conduct is the greatest virtue. It is the greatest wealth, the greatest knowledge and the greatest goal.

A person devoid of good conduct is censured in the world. He will not be happy in the other world. Hence one must possess good conduct.

Doing the duties prescribed by the Vedas, Śāstras and the followers of the Vedas is meant by the word good conduct, nothing else.

Good conduct is also the conduct of the good. Theism is the source of goodness.

AstikazcetpramAdAdyaiH sadAcArAdavicyutaH ॥ na duSyati naro nityaM tasmAdAstikatAM vrajet ॥ 59 ॥
If he is a believer he will not err from the path of good conduct or commit errors or get defiled. Hence one shall be a believer in God and the Vedas.

O beloved, I shall tell you another secret which shall be guarded well. It shall not be mentioned to any one and every one or to an atheist brute.

In the age of Kali there is no greater protective factor than the five-syllabled Mantra to a fallen or a low-born person devoid of good conduct.

This mantra is not ineffective when repeated by a person whether walking or standing or doing any other work or whether he is pure or impure.

अनाचारवतां पुंसामविशुद्धषडध्वनाम् ॥ अनादिष्टो ऽपि गुरुणा मन्त्रो ऽयं न च निष्फलः ॥ ६४ ॥
anAcAravatAM puMsAmavizuddhaSaDadhvanAm ॥ anAdiSTo 'pi guruNA mantro 'yaM na ca niSphalaH ॥ 64 ॥
This mantra is not ineffective even if it is not properly imparted by the preceptor. It is not ineffective even in the case of persons not caring for good conduct and who have not purified the six paths.

antyajasyApi mUrkhasya mUDhasya patitasya ca ॥ nirmaryAdasya nIcasya maMtro 'yaM na ca niSphalaH ॥ 65 ॥
This mantra is not ineffective in the case of a base-born, a fool, a deluded person, a fallen man and a lowly one transgressing the bounds of decency.

sarvAvasthAM gatasyApi mayi bhaktimataH param ॥ sidhyatyeva na saMdeho nAparasya tu kasyacit ॥ 66 ॥
There is no doubt in this that this mantra becomes efficacious in the case of a man endowed with devotion to me whatever be his condition. It is not so in the case of other mantras.

न लग्नतिथिनक्षत्रवारयोगादयः प्रिये ॥ अस्यात्यंतमवेक्ष्याः स्युर्नैष सप्तस्सदोदितः ॥ ६७ ॥
na lagnatithinakSatravArayogAdayaH priye ॥ asyAtyaMtamavekSyAH syurnaiSa saptassadoditaH ॥ 67 ॥
O beloved, in the case of this mantra, the auspicious hour, date, star, day of the week etc. need not be taken into consideration too much. It is ever wakeful, not slumbering.

न कदाचिन्न कस्यापि रिपुरेष महामनुः ॥ सुसिद्धो वापि सिद्धो वा साध्यो वापि भविष्यति ॥ ६८ ॥
na kadAcinna kasyApi ripureSa mahAmanuH ॥ susiddho vApi siddho vA sAdhyo vApi bhaviSyati ॥ 68 ॥
This great mantra is never harmful to anyone. It may be either Susiddha, or Siddha or Sādhya.

सिद्धेन गुरुणादिष्टस्सुसिद्ध इति कथ्यते ॥ असिद्धेनापि वा दत्तस्सिद्धसाध्यस्तु केवलः ॥ ६९ ॥
siddhena guruNAdiSTassusiddha iti kathyate ॥ asiddhenApi vA dattassiddhasAdhyastu kevalaH ॥ 69 ॥
It is Susiddha if it is imparted by a preceptor who is a Siddha. If it is imparted by a preceptor who is not a Siddha it is Siddha. The mere mantra is Sādhya.

असाधितस्साधितो वा सिध्यत्वेन न संशयः ॥ श्रद्धातिशययुक्तस्य मयि मंत्रे तथा गुरौ ॥ ७० ॥
asAdhitassAdhito vA sidhyatvena na saMzayaH ॥ zraddhAtizayayuktasya mayi maMtre tathA gurau ॥ 70 ॥
If one has faith in me, the mantra and the preceptor, the mantra will undoubtedly be achieved whether it is Asādhita or Sādhita.

tasmAnmaMtrAntarAMstyaktvA sApAyAn 1 dhikArataH ॥ AzrametparamAM vidyAM sAkSAtpaJcAkSarIM budhaH ॥ 71 ॥
Hence a scholarly devotee shall resort to the five-syllabled mantra eschewing other mantras attended with risks in the matter of authorisation.

maMtrAntareSu siddheSu maMtra eSa na sidhyati ॥ siddhe tvasminmahAmaMtre te ca siddhA bhavaMtyuta ॥ 72 ॥
There is no guarantee that if the other mantras are achieved this mantra too will be achieved. But if this mantra is achieved all the other mantras will be achieved.

yathA deveSvalabdho 'smi labdheSvapi mahezvari ॥ mayi labdhe tu te labdhA maMtreSveSu samo vidhiH ॥ 73 ॥
Just as, O goddess, I am not achieved even if the other gods are attained but if I am attained the other gods too are attained so also is the case with the Mantras.

ye doSAssarvamaMtrANAM na te 'sminsaMbhavaMtyapi ॥ asya maMtrasya jAtyAdInanapekSya pravartanAt ॥ 74 ॥
Since this mantra functions without reference to castes, the defects found in the other mantras are not found in this mantra.

Still this mantra shall not be used for the trivial benefits or against insignificant opponents. Then alone this is very efficacious.

Upamanyu mid:— Thus the mode of repeating this mantra of five syllables was explained to the goddess by lord Śiva himself for the benefit of the worlds.

ya idaM kIrtayedbhaktyA zRNuyAdvA samAhitaH ॥ sarvapApavinirmuktaH prayAti paramAM gatim ॥ 77 ॥
He who glorifies this with devotion or listens to it with a pious mind is liberated from all sins and attains the greatest goal.
