vAyuruvAca ॥ tatastridazamukhyAste viSNuzakrapurogamAH ॥ sarve bhayaparitrastAdudruvurbhayavihvalAH ॥ 1 ॥
Vāyu said:— The chiefs of gods headed by Viṣṇu and Indra were terribly afraid. They fled in excessive fright.

Seeing that the gods had fled uninjured and thinking that those who deserved to be punished remained unpunished the leading Gaṇa became angry.

Then he took up a trident that destroyed the power of Lord Śiva. The mightyarmed Rama looked upwards and emitted flames from his mouth.

Like a lion chasing an elephant, he ran away from the immortals. It was pleasant for him to walk as they chased him.

Like Vārāṇas, the drunkard went to be seen. Then the mighty demon stirred up the great army of the gods.

Just as the leader of a herd of elephants is intoxicated with a great lake They changed into many colors blue white red.

He was dressed in tiger skin and wore a golden star. cutting, breaking, nud 1 linding, tearing, and crushing.

vyacaraddevasaMgheSu bhadro 'gniriva kakSagaH ॥ tatra tatra mahAvegAccaraMtaM zUladhAriNam ॥ 8 ॥
The auspicious Lord wandered about among the hosts of the demigods, just as fire moves about in the orbit. Here and there he moved about with great speed wielding a spear.

tamekaM tridazAH sarve sahasramiva menire ॥ bhadrakAlI ca saMkruddhA yuddhavRddhamadoddhatA ॥ 9 ॥
All the demigods thought that he was one thousand. Bhadrakali was enraged and intoxicated with the old man of war.

muktajvAlena zUlena nirbibheda raNe surAn ॥ sa tayA ruruce bhadro rudrakopasamudbhavaH ॥ 10 ॥
In the battle he pierced the demigods with his flaming spear. The auspicious Lord became angry with her and became angry with her.

kalpe zeSAnalajvAlAdagdhAvizvajagadyathA ॥ tadA savAjinaM sUryaM rudrAnrudragaNAgraNIH ॥ 12 ॥
Just as the entire universe is burnt up by the flames of fire for the rest of the kalpa, Then the leader of the Rudras saw the Sun with his horse and the Rudras.

भद्रो मूर्ध्नि जघानाशु वामपादेन लीलया ॥ असिभिः पावकं भद्रः पट्टिशैस्तु यमं यमी ॥ १३ ॥
bhadro mUrdhni jaghAnAzu vAmapAdena lIlayA ॥ asibhiH pAvakaM bhadraH paTTizaistu yamaM yamI ॥ 13 ॥
Bhadra quickly struck him on the head with his left foot playfully. Bhadra fights fire with swords and Yami fights Yama with spears.

रुद्रान्दृढेन शूलेन मुद्गरैर्वरुणं दृढैः ॥ परिघैर्निरृतिं वायुं टंकैष्टंकधरः स्वयम् ॥ १४ ॥
rudrAndRDhena zUlena mudgarairvaruNaM dRDhaiH ॥ parighairnirRtiM vAyuM TaMkaiSTaMkadharaH svayam ॥ 14 ॥
Rudra with a strong spear and Varuna with a strong hammer He himself carried a tank brick and struck the wind with his spears.

nirbibheda raNe vIro lIlayaiva gaNezvaraH ॥ sarvAndevagaNAnsadyo munIJchaMbhorvirodhinaH ॥ 15 ॥
The heroic lord of the hosts easily broke through the battlefield All the hosts of gods and sages who were opposed to Lord Śambhu were immediately defeated.

ततो देवः सरस्वत्या नासिकाग्रं सुशोभनम् ॥ चिच्छेद करजाग्रेण देवमातुस्तथैव च ॥ १६ ॥
tato devaH sarasvatyA nAsikAgraM suzobhanam ॥ ciccheda karajAgreNa devamAtustathaiva ca ॥ 16 ॥
Then the lord cut off the tip of the nose of Sarasvatī as well as of the mother of the gods with the tip of his nail.

ciccheda ca kuThAreNa bAhudaMDaM vibhAvasoH ॥ agrato dvyaMgulAM jihvAM mAturdevyA lulAva ca ॥ 17 ॥
With a dagger he chopped off an arm of Vibhāvasu, and the tongue up to two inches from the tip, of the mother of the gods.

The lord nipped off the right nostril and the nipple of the left breast of Svāhā with his nail-end.

The impetuous Bhadra uprooted the eyes of Bhaga large and lustrous like the lotus.

pUSNo dazanarekhAM ca dIptAM muktAvalImiva ॥ jaghAna dhanuSaH koTyA sa tenAspaSTavAgabhUt ॥ 20 ॥
With the end of his bow he hit Puṣan’s pearl like row of teeth. Thereafter Puṣan could not utter words clearly.

tatazcaMdramasaM devaH pAdAMguSThena lIlayA ॥ kSaNaM kRmivadAkramya gharSayAmAsa bhUtale ॥ 21 ॥
Then the lord stamped the moon with his toe, as though he was only a worm and ground him on the ground.

zirazciccheda dakSasya bhadraH paramakopataH ॥ krozaMtyAmeva vairiNyAM bhadrakAlyai dadau ca tat ॥ 22 ॥
The infuriated Bhadra cut off the head of Dakṣa and handed it over to Bhadrakālī even as Vīriṇi, wife of Dakṣa was lamenting.

Taking up the head resembling the fruit of a palmyra the goddess played with it like a ball in the battlefield.

tato dakSasya yajJastrI kuzIlA bhartRbhiryathA ॥ pAdAbhyAM caiva hastAbhyAM hanyate sma gaNezvaraiH ॥ 24 ॥
Then the sacrifice itself was hit and smashed with feet and hands like fallen women hit by their husbands.

ariSTanemine somaM dharmaM caiva prajApatim ॥ bahuputraM cAMgirasaM kRzAzvaM kazyapaM tathA ॥ 25 ॥
I gave the moon-god to Arishtanemi and Dharma to Prajāpati Dakṣa. He had many sons Angirasa Krishasva and Kasyapa.

gale pragRhya balino gaNapAH siMhavikramAH ॥ bhartsayaMto bhRzaM vAgbhirnirjaghnurmUrdhni muSTibhiH ॥ 26 ॥
The mighty Gandharvas, mighty like lions, seized him by the neck. Rebuking him with severe words they struck him on the head with their fists.

dharSitA bhUtavetAlairdArAssutaparigrahAH ॥ yathA kaliyuge jArairbalena kulayoSitaH ॥ 27 ॥
Just as in Kaliyuga women of noble families are molested and defiled by paramours forcibly so also the women and the daughters-in-law were molested by Bhūtas and Vetālas.

tacca vidhvastakalazaM bhagnayUpaM gatotsavam ॥ pradIpitamahAzAlaM prabhinnadvAratoraNam ॥ 28 ॥
The urn was destroyed and the sacrificial altar was broken. The great hall was lit up and the gates and archways were broken.

The army of the demons was uprooted and the wealthy ascetic was being killed. There was a peaceful sound of the Brahman, and a crowd of people were exhausted.

The woman was crying in distress and had lost all her belongings. The sacrificial grounds were tormented by the sight of an empty forest.

zUlavegaprarugNAzca bhinnabAhUruvakSasaH ॥ vinikRttottamAMgAzca petururvyAM surottamAH ॥ 31 ॥
The excellent gods fell on the ground with their arms, thighs and chests pierced, with the heads cut off with the trident.

When thousands of gods were killed and their bodies lay sprawled on the ground, the chief of Ganas entered the place of sacrificial fires.

On seeing that Bhadra resembling the deadly fire had come the sacrifice was afraid of death and fled assuming the form of a deer.

sa visphArya mahaccApaM dRDhajyAghoSaNabhISaNam ॥ bhadrastamabhidudrAva vikSipanneva sAyakAn ॥ 34 ॥
Bhadra pursued him drawing his great bow, terrible due to the twanging sound of the firm bow-siring, and discharging the arrows.

AkarNapUrNamAkRSTaM dhanurambudasaMnibham ॥ nAdayAmAsa ca jyAM dyAM khaM ca bhUmiM ca sarvazaH ॥ 35 ॥
He sounded the bow by drawing the string to the ears like the thundering cloud. The bowstring, heaven, sky and earth reverberated.

तमुपश्रित्य सन्नादं हतो ऽस्मीत्येव विह्वलम् ॥ शरणार्धेन वक्रेण स वीरो ऽध्वरपूरुषम् ॥ ३६ ॥
tamupazritya sannAdaM hato 'smItyeva vihvalam ॥ zaraNArdhena vakreNa sa vIro 'dhvarapUruSam ॥ 36 ॥
She took refuge in him and cried out, “I am dead!” The heroic man with his curved half-shelter looked at the man of the sacrifice.

महाभयस्खलत्पादं वेपन्तं विगतत्विषम् ॥ मृगरूपेण धावन्तं विशिरस्कं तदाकरोत् ॥ ३७ ॥
mahAbhayaskhalatpAdaM vepantaM vigatatviSam ॥ mRgarUpeNa dhAvantaM viziraskaM tadAkarot ॥ 37 ॥
His feet slipped in great fear and he trembled and lost his luster. Then he made him run away in the form of a deer.

tamIdRzamavajJAtaM dRSTvA vai sUryasaMbhavam ॥ viSNuH paramasaMkruddho yuddhAyAbhavadudyataH ॥ 38 ॥
On seeing the sacrifice thus insulted, Viṣṇu was infuriated and got ready for a fight.

तमुवाह महावेगात्स्कन्धेन नतसंधिना ॥ सर्वेषां वयसां राजा गरुडः पन्नगाशनः ॥ ३९ ॥
tamuvAha mahAvegAtskandhena natasaMdhinA ॥ sarveSAM vayasAM rAjA garuDaH pannagAzanaH ॥ 39 ॥
With great speed she carried him on her shoulder with her joints bent. Garuda is the king of all ages and eats serpents.

देवाश्च हतशिष्टा ये देवराजपुरोगमाः ॥ प्रचक्रुस्तस्य साहाय्यं प्राणांस्त्यक्तुमिवोद्यताः ॥ ४० ॥
devAzca hataziSTA ye devarAjapurogamAH ॥ pracakrustasya sAhAyyaM prANAMstyaktumivodyatAH ॥ 40 ॥
The remaining demigods led by the king of the demigods were killed They came to his aid as if ready to give up their lives.

The demigods, accompanied by Lord Viṣṇu, were like a lion croaking. Seeing this the lord of ghosts laughed like a lion in pain.
