Sanatkumāra said: Om obeisance to you, the lord of the gods, the one bowed to by the gods and Asuras, the great lord of the beings past and future, the one of green and tawny-coloured eyes, the strength, the intellect-formed, the one having the tiger hide as his covering cloth, the one springing from the flint sticks of sacred fire, the lord of the three worlds, Īśvara, Hara, the bay-eyed, the cause of the dissolution of the Yugas, the fire, the lord of Gaṇas, the protector of the worlds,the one of great arms, of great hands, the trident-bearing, of great fangs, the Kāla, Maheśvara, the imperishable, the Time-formed, the blue-necked, the one of huge belly, the presiding deity of Gaṇas, the soul of all, the purifier of all, the all-pervading, the destroyer of the death, the one observing sacred rites on the Pāriyātra mountain, the Brahmacarin, the one knowable through Vedānta, the one reaching the limits of austerities, Paśupati, the bodiless, the one armed with trident, the bull-bannered, Hari, the one with matted hair, the tufted, the staff-bearing, the one of great fame, the lord of Bhūtas, the dweller in a mountain-cave, the one beating time to Vīṇā and Paṇava, the deathless, the comely, the one like the early morning sun, the dweller in the cremation ground, the lord consort of Pārvatī, the suppressor of enemies, the one who felled the eyes of Bhaga, the one who broke the tooth of Pūṣan, the one who cuts the cruel ones, the one armed with noose, the hour of dissolution, the meteor-mouthed, the fire-bannered, the sage, the blazing, the lord of subjects, the leader, the father, the fourth one, the most excellent one in the world, Vāmadeva, the chivalrous in speech, the Bhikṣu of the left wing, the Bhikṣu-formed, the one with matted hair, the complicated, the one who benumbed the hand of Indra, the one who benumbed the Vasus, the sacrifice, the performer of sacrifice, Kāla, the intelligent, the bee, the moving one, the one originating from the hedges of the trees, the one adored by the name Vājasana by the people of all stages of life, the creator of the universe, the sustainer of the universe, the eternal Puruṣa, the stable one, the presiding deity of Dharma, the one of three-fold paths, the conceiver of all living beings, the three-eyed, the multi-formed, the one as refulgent as ten thousand suns, the lord, the one sounding all musical instruments, the one who releases from all hindrances, the binding one, the supporter of all, the most excellent of all virtuous ones, the Puṣpadanta, the part, the face, the destroyer of all, the golden-eared, the deity at the door, the terrible, the one of terrible exploit, Om, Obeisance, Obeisance.It is by repeating this mantra that Śukra came out of the belly of Śiva through the penis, like the powerful semen.

gauryA gRhItaH putrArthaM vizvezena tataH kRtaH ॥ ajarazcAmaraH zrImAndvitIya iva zaMkaraH ॥ 2 ॥
He was accepted as son by Pārvatī and made unaging and undying by Śiva, the lord of the universe, as glorious as himself and second to him.

tribhirvarSasahasraistu?? samatItairmahItale ॥ mahezvarAtpunarjAtaH zukro vedanidhirmuniH ॥ 3 ॥
Śukra the sage, the storehouse of the Vedas, was reborn of lord Śiva when three thousand years elapsed on the earth.

dadarza zUle saMzuSkaM dhyAyaMtaM paramezvaram ॥ aMdhakaM dhairyasadvanya??dAnavezaM tapasvinam ॥ 4 ॥
He saw Andhaka the lord of Dānavas, staked to the trident, performing a penance courageously and meditating on the supreme lord. He was completely dried up.

mahAdevaM virUpAkSaM candrArddhakRtazekharam ॥ amRtaM zAzvataM sthANuM nIlakaMThaM pinAkinam ॥ 5 ॥
Mahadeva is the Great God who has uneven or three eyes and wears the crescent moon on his head. He is immortal, eternal, and immovable. He is the blue-throated one who wields the mighty Pināka bow.

वृषभाक्षं महाज्ञेयं पुरुषं सर्वकामदम् ॥ कामारिं कामदहनं कामरूपं कपर्दिनम् ॥ ६ ॥
vRSabhAkSaM mahAjJeyaM puruSaM sarvakAmadam ॥ kAmAriM kAmadahanaM kAmarUpaM kapardinam ॥ 6 ॥
He has eyes like a bull and is the supreme knower. He is the cosmic person who fulfills all desires. He is the enemy of desire and the destroyer of Kama, who himself took the form of desire, and he is the matted-haired ascetic.

virUpaM girizaM bhImaM sragviNaM raktavAsasam ॥ yoginaM kAladahanaM tripuraghnaM kapAlinam ॥ 7 ॥
He is formless and the lord of the mountains. He is terrible and fearsome, adorned with garlands and dressed in red garments. He is the supreme yogi, the burner of Time, the destroyer of the three cities, and the bearer of the skull.

गूढव्रतं गुप्तमंत्रं गंभीरं भावगोचरम् ॥ अणिमादिगुणाधारत्रिलोक्यैश्वर्य्यदायकम्॥८॥
gUDhavrataM guptamaMtraM gaMbhIraM bhAvagocaram ॥ aNimAdiguNAdhAratrilokyaizvaryyadAyakam॥8॥
He follows secret vows and holds hidden mantras. He is deep and profound, perceivable only through inner experience. He is the source of mystical powers like the ability to become minute and is the bestower of sovereignty over the three worlds.

वीरं वीरहणं घोरं विरूपं मांसलं पटुम् ॥ महामांसादमुन्मत्तं भैरवं वै महेश्वरम् ॥ ९ ॥
vIraM vIrahaNaM ghoraM virUpaM mAMsalaM paTum ॥ mahAmAMsAdamunmattaM bhairavaM vai mahezvaram ॥ 9 ॥
He is heroic and the slayer of warriors. He is fearsome and terrible, formless and a consumer of flesh. He is the great eater of flesh, intoxicated, and is indeed Bhairava, the Great Lord.

त्रैलोक्यद्रावणं लुब्धं लुब्धकं यज्ञसूदनम् ॥ कृत्तिकानां सुतैर्युक्तमुन्मत्तकृत्तिवाससम् ॥ 2-5-49-१० ॥
trailokyadrAvaNaM lubdhaM lubdhakaM yajJasUdanam ॥ kRttikAnAM sutairyuktamunmattakRttivAsasam ॥ 2-5-49-10 ॥
He terrifies the three worlds and is a greedy hunter who destroys sacrifices. He is accompanied by the sons of the Krittikas, who are fierce and intoxicated.

गजकृत्तिपरीधानं क्षुब्धं भुजगभूषणम् ॥ दद्यालंबं च वेतालं घोरं शाकिनिपूजितम् ॥ ११ ॥
gajakRttiparIdhAnaM kSubdhaM bhujagabhUSaNam ॥ dadyAlaMbaM ca vetAlaM ghoraM zAkinipUjitam ॥ 11 ॥
He wears the garb of Krittika and is enraged, adorned with serpent ornaments. He hangs from a noose and is worshiped by the fierce goddess Shakti.

अघोरं घोरदैत्यघ्नं घोरघोषं वनस्पतिम् ॥ भस्मांगं जटिलं शुद्धं भेरुंडशतसेवितम् ॥ १२ ॥
aghoraM ghoradaityaghnaM ghoraghoSaM vanaspatim ॥ bhasmAMgaM jaTilaM zuddhaM bheruMDazatasevitam ॥ 12 ॥
He is terrible and destroyer of demons. He is the terrifying one who roars in the forest. He is smeared with ashes and wears matted hair, worshiped by a hundred fierce Bhairavas.

भूतेश्वरं भूतनाथं पञ्चभूताश्रितं खगम् ॥ क्रोधितं निष्ठुरं चण्डं चण्डीशं चण्डिकाप्रियम् ॥१३॥
bhUtezvaraM bhUtanAthaM paJcabhUtAzritaM khagam ॥ krodhitaM niSThuraM caNDaM caNDIzaM caNDikApriyam ॥13॥
He is the lord of spirits and ghosts and the refuge of the five elements. He is angry, cruel, and fierce, the lover of goddess Chandi.

चण्डं तुंगं गरुत्मंतं नित्यमासवभोजनम् ॥ लेलिहानं महारौद्रं मृत्युं मृत्योरगोचरम् ॥१४॥
caNDaM tuMgaM garutmaMtaM nityamAsavabhojanam ॥ lelihAnaM mahAraudraM mRtyuM mRtyoragocaram ॥14॥
He is fierce and lofty, mighty and eater of poison. He is the great terror who transcends death and the lord of cremation grounds.

मृत्योर्मृत्युं महासेनं श्मशानारण्यवासिनम् ॥ रागं विरागं रागांधं वीतरागशताचितम् ॥१५॥
mRtyormRtyuM mahAsenaM zmazAnAraNyavAsinam ॥ rAgaM virAgaM rAgAMdhaM vItarAgazatAcitam ॥15॥
He is death itself, the great commander, dwelling in the cremation ground. He transcends attachment and detachment and is beyond all passions.

सत्त्वं रजस्तमोधर्ममधर्मं वासवानुजम् ॥ सत्यं त्वसत्यं सद्रूपमसद्रूपमहेतुकम् ॥ १६॥
sattvaM rajastamodharmamadharmaM vAsavAnujam ॥ satyaM tvasatyaM sadrUpamasadrUpamahetukam ॥ 16॥
He embodies truth, falsehood, reality, and unreality, all causes and effects. He is the source of the qualities of sattva, rajas, and tamas, and is the younger brother of Vasava (Indra).

अर्द्धनारीश्वरं भानुं भानुकोटिशतप्रभम् ॥ यज्ञं यज्ञपतिं रुद्रमीशानं वरदं शिवम् ॥ १७॥
arddhanArIzvaraM bhAnuM bhAnukoTizataprabham ॥ yajJaM yajJapatiM rudramIzAnaM varadaM zivam ॥ 17॥
He is the half-male and half-female lord, the sun, and the luminous lord of ten million rays. He is the sacrifice, the lord of sacrifices, Rudra, the lord of Shiva, and the bestower of boons.

अष्टोत्तरशतं ह्येतन्मूर्तीनां परमात्मनः ॥ शिवस्य दानवो ध्यायन्मुक्तस्तस्मान्महाभयात् ॥ १८ ॥
aSTottarazataM hyetanmUrtInAM paramAtmanaH ॥ zivasya dAnavo dhyAyanmuktastasmAnmahAbhayAt ॥ 18 ॥
There are indeed 108 such forms of the supreme being Shiva. Those who meditate on these forms are freed from all fear and attain liberation.

दिव्येनामृतवर्षेण सोऽभिषिक्तः कपर्दिना ॥ तुष्टेन मोचितं तस्माच्छूलाग्रादवरोपितः ॥ १९॥
divyenAmRtavarSeNa so'bhiSiktaH kapardinA ॥ tuSTena mocitaM tasmAcchUlAgrAdavaropitaH ॥ 19॥
He was drenched with the divine shower of nectar by lord Śiva who was perfectly satisfied. He was brought from the top of the trident and released.

uktazcAtha mahAdaityo mahezAnena soM'dhakaH ॥ asurassAMtvapUrvaM yatkRtaM sarvaM mahAtmanA ॥2-5-49-20 ॥
He spoke to the Asura Andhaka, the great Daitya. The great lord forgave what the demon had done before.

Izvara uvAca ॥ bho bho daityendratuSTo'smi damena niyamena ca ॥ zauryeNa tava dhairyeNa varaM varaya suvrata ॥21॥
The great lord said: O lord of Daityas, I am pleased by your restraints and observances, your valour and courage. O you of good rites, choose a boon.

आराधितस्त्वया नित्यं सर्वनिर्धूतकल्मषः ॥ वरदोऽहं वरार्हस्त्वं महादैत्येन्द्रसत्तम ॥२२॥
ArAdhitastvayA nityaM sarvanirdhUtakalmaSaH ॥ varado'haM varArhastvaM mahAdaityendrasattama ॥22॥
Propitiated by you I grant the boons. Free from sins you deserve a boon, O excellent Daitya.

प्राणसंधारणादस्ति यच्च पुण्यफलं तव ॥ त्रिभिर्वर्षसहस्रैस्तु तेनास्तु तव निर्वृतिः ॥ २३ ॥
prANasaMdhAraNAdasti yacca puNyaphalaM tava ॥ tribhirvarSasahasraistu tenAstu tava nirvRtiH ॥ 23 ॥
For the merits you have acquired by retaining your life for three thousand years you shall attain happiness.

सनत्कुमार उवाच ॥ एतच्छ्रुत्वांधकः प्राह वेपमानः कृतांजलिः ॥ भूमौ जानुद्वयं कृत्वा भगवंतमुमापतिम् ॥२४॥
sanatkumAra uvAca ॥ etacchrutvAMdhakaH prAha vepamAnaH kRtAMjaliH ॥ bhUmau jAnudvayaM kRtvA bhagavaMtamumApatim ॥24॥
Sanatkumāra said: On hearing this, Andhaka joined his palms in reverence. He knelt on the ground and spoke to the lord consort of Pārvatī trembling with awe.

अंधक उवाच ॥ भगवन्यन्मयोक्तोऽसि दीनोदीनः परात्परः ॥ हर्षगद्गदया वाचा मया पूर्वं रणाजिरे ॥२५॥
aMdhaka uvAca ॥ bhagavanyanmayokto'si dInodInaH parAtparaH ॥ harSagadgadayA vAcA mayA pUrvaM raNAjire ॥25॥
Andhaka said: O lord, what you had been told by me before was done with the words choked by excess of pleasure. You the greater than the greatest were addressed as an ordinary poor person.

यद्यत्कृतं विमूढत्वात्कर्म लोकेषु गर्हितम् ॥ अजानता त्वां तत्सर्वं प्रभो मनसि मा कृथाः ॥ २६ ॥
yadyatkRtaM vimUDhatvAtkarma lokeSu garhitam ॥ ajAnatA tvAM tatsarvaM prabho manasi mA kRthAH ॥ 26 ॥
What had been done by me in the battlefield due to delusion was the most despicable in the world. It was because I did not realise you then. O lord, please do not keep that in mind.

पार्वत्यामपि दुष्टं यत्कामदोषात्कृतं मया ॥ क्षम्यतां मे महादेव कृपणो दुःखितो भृशम् ॥२७॥
pArvatyAmapi duSTaM yatkAmadoSAtkRtaM mayA ॥ kSamyatAM me mahAdeva kRpaNo duHkhito bhRzam ॥27॥
O great lord, the wicked thing I committed towards Pārvatī was due to my base lust. It may kindly be forgiven. I am the most miserable and unhappy.

दुःखितस्य दया कार्या कृपणस्य विशेषतः ॥ दीनस्य भक्तियुक्तस्य भवता नित्यमेव हि ॥२८॥
duHkhitasya dayA kAryA kRpaNasya vizeSataH ॥ dInasya bhaktiyuktasya bhavatA nityameva hi ॥28॥
A miserable person shall be pitied. If he be in a pitiable plight, he shall be all the more treated kindly. I am miserable but always devoted to you.

I am miserable and devoted. I have sought refuge in you. I shall be saved. I have joined my palms in reverence.

O moon-crested lord, where is her anger and where am I a pitiable Daitya? O crescent-crested lord, O Śiva, O supreme lord, I cannot bear it.

Let me be always devoted to you both. Let me be free from enmity towards the gods. Let me be calm in heart and think of Yogic ways. Let me thus stay with your Gaṇas.

Sanatkumāra said: After saying this, the lord of the Daityas became quiet meditating on the three-eyed lord and seeing Pārvatī as mother.

Then glanced at by Śiva, with delighted eyes, he remembered the entire story of his previous wonderful birth.

When he remembered the incident his ambition was fulfilled. Bowing to his mother and father—Śiva and Pārvatī—he became contented.

He was kissed and sniffed on the head by Pārvatī and Śiva. From the crescent-crested lord Śiva he secured everything he desired.
