॥ brahmovAca ॥ athAkarNya girIzazca nijapuryyupakaNThataH ॥ prAptamIzaM sarvagaM vai mumudeti himAlayaH ॥ 1 ॥
Brahmā said: On hearing that the all-pervading Śiva had come very near his city, the lord of mountains Himavat rejoiced much.

अथ सम्भृतसम्भार स्सम्भाषां कर्तुमीश्वरम् ॥ शैलान्प्रस्थापयामास ब्राह्मणानपि सर्वशः ॥ २ ॥
atha sambhRtasambhAra ssambhASAM kartumIzvaram ॥ zailAnprasthApayAmAsa brAhmaNAnapi sarvazaH ॥ 2 ॥
Then, gathering all the requisite things he sent mountains and the brahmins to welcome Siva.

svayaM jagAma sadbhaktyA prANepsundraSTu'mIzvaram ॥ bhaktyudrutamanAzzailaH prazaMsan svavidhimmudA ॥3॥
With his mind melting with devotion and joyously praising his luck, the mountain personally went to see Śiva as dear as the very vital air.

देवसेनां तदा दृष्ट्वा हिमवान्वि स्मयं गतः ॥ जगाम सम्मुखस्तत्र धन्योऽहमिति चिन्तयन् ॥४॥
devasenAM tadA dRSTvA himavAnvi smayaM gataH ॥ jagAma sammukhastatra dhanyo'hamiti cintayan ॥4॥
On seeing the army of the gods Himavat was struck with wonder. Considering himself blessed he appeared in front of them.

The gods too were struck with wonder on seeing his army. The gods and the mountains became delighted.

parvatAnAM mahAsenA devAnAM ca tathA mune ॥ militvA virarAjeva pUrvapazcimasAgarau ॥6॥
The vast army of the mountains and the gods, O sage, on coming together shone like the eastern and western oceans in juxtaposition.

परस्परं मिलित्वा ते देवाश्च पर्वतास्तथा ॥ कृतकृत्यन्तथात्मानम्मेनिरे परया मुदा ॥७॥
parasparaM militvA te devAzca parvatAstathA ॥ kRtakRtyantathAtmAnammenire parayA mudA ॥7॥
Meeting each other, the gods and the mountains considered themselves blessed. They were greatly delighted.

अथेश्वरम्पुरो दृष्ट्वा प्रणनाम हिमालयः ॥ सर्वे प्रणेमुर्गिरयो ब्राह्मणाश्च सदाशिवम् ॥८॥
athezvarampuro dRSTvA praNanAma himAlayaH ॥ sarve praNemurgirayo brAhmaNAzca sadAzivam ॥8॥
Seeing Śiva in front, Himavat bowed to Him. The mountains and the brahmins bowed to Sadāśiva.

वृषभस्थम्प्रसन्नास्यन्नानाभरणभूषितम् ॥ दिव्यावयवलावण्यप्रकाशितदिगन्तरम् ॥ ९ ॥
vRSabhasthamprasannAsyannAnAbharaNabhUSitam ॥ divyAvayavalAvaNyaprakAzitadigantaram ॥ 9 ॥
Seated on the bull (Nandi), with a serene face, adorned with various ornaments, His divine limbs, full of charm and beauty, illuminated all directions.

Clad in the finest, delicately woven sacred silk, his body radiated splendor, His crown shimmered with precious gems, and he smiled with a pure and radiant glow.

भूषाभूताहियुक्तांगमद्भुतावयवप्रभम् ॥ दिव्यद्युतिं सुरेशैश्च सेवितं करचामरैः ॥ ११ ॥
bhUSAbhUtAhiyuktAMgamadbhutAvayavaprabham ॥ divyadyutiM surezaizca sevitaM karacAmaraiH ॥ 11 ॥
With serpent-ornaments adorning his limbs and an extraordinary bodily radiance, He shone with divine brilliance, attended by the lords of the gods, fanning him with chāmaras (yak-tail fans).

वामस्थिताच्युतन्दक्षभागस्थितविभुम्प्रभुम् ॥ पृष्ठस्थितहरिं पृष्ठपार्श्वस्थितसुरादिकम् ॥ १२॥
vAmasthitAcyutandakSabhAgasthitavibhumprabhum ॥ pRSThasthitahariM pRSThapArzvasthitasurAdikam ॥ 12॥
With Lord Viṣṇu (Acyuta) standing to his left, and the mighty Brahmā on his right, With Hari (Viṣṇu) behind him, and various other gods surrounding from behind and to the sides.

नानाविधिसुराद्यैश्च संस्तुतं लोकशंकरम् ॥ स्वहेत्वात्ततनुम्ब्रह्मसर्वेशं वरदायकम् ॥ १३॥
nAnAvidhisurAdyaizca saMstutaM lokazaMkaram ॥ svahetvAttatanumbrahmasarvezaM varadAyakam ॥ 13॥
Praised by various types of gods and celestial beings, Śiva, the benefactor of the worlds, Who took on a form by his own will — the Supreme Brahman, Lord of all, the bestower of boons.

सगुणं निर्गुणं चापि भक्ताधीनं कृपाकरम्॥ प्रकृतेः पुरुषस्यापि परं सच्चित्सुखात्मकम् ॥ १४ ॥
saguNaM nirguNaM cApi bhaktAdhInaM kRpAkaram॥ prakRteH puruSasyApi paraM saccitsukhAtmakam ॥ 14 ॥
He is both with attributes (saguṇa) and beyond them (nirguṇa), governed by devotion, the embodiment of compassion, Transcending both Prakṛti (Nature) and Puruṣa (the individual soul), he is the ultimate reality — pure existence, consciousness, and bliss.

प्रभोर्दक्षिणभागे तु ददर्श हरिमच्युतम् ॥ विनतातनयारूढं नानाभूषणभूषितम् ॥ १५ ॥
prabhordakSiNabhAge tu dadarza harimacyutam ॥ vinatAtanayArUDhaM nAnAbhUSaNabhUSitam ॥ 15 ॥
The mountain saw Viṣṇu, bedecked in ornaments and seated on Garuḍa to the right of lord Śiva.

प्रभोश्च वामभागे तु मुने मां सन्ददर्श ह ॥ चतुर्मुखं महाशोभं स्वपरीवारसंयुतम् ॥ १६ ॥
prabhozca vAmabhAge tu mune mAM sandadarza ha ॥ caturmukhaM mahAzobhaM svaparIvArasaMyutam ॥ 16 ॥
O sage, to the left of the lord stood I, the fourfaced deity, shining brilliantly and accompanied by my attendants.

एतौ सुरेश्वरौ दृष्ट्वा शिवस्याति प्रियौ सदा ॥ प्रणनाम गिरीशश्च सपरीवार आदरात् ॥१७॥
etau surezvarau dRSTvA zivasyAti priyau sadA ॥ praNanAma girIzazca saparIvAra AdarAt ॥17॥
On seeing us both, great favourites of Śiva for ever, the lord of mountains with all his retinue respectfully bowed to us.

तथा शिवस्य पृष्ठे च पार्श्वयोस्तु विराजितान् ॥ देवादीन्प्रणनामासौ दृष्ट्वा गिरिवरेश्वरः ॥ १८ ॥
tathA zivasya pRSThe ca pArzvayostu virAjitAn ॥ devAdInpraNanAmAsau dRSTvA girivarezvaraH ॥ 18 ॥
Similarly, on seeing the gods and others brilliantly shining behind lord Śiva and at his sides, the lord of mountains bowed to them.

शिवाज्ञया पुरो भूत्वा जगाम स्वपुरं गिरिः ॥ शेषहर्यात्मभूश्शीघ्रं मुनिभिः निर्जरादिभिः ॥ १९ ॥
zivAjJayA puro bhUtvA jagAma svapuraM giriH ॥ zeSaharyAtmabhUzzIghraM munibhiH nirjarAdibhiH ॥ 19 ॥
At the bidding of Śiva the mountain went ahead to his city. Behind him went Viṣṇu, Brahmā, the sages and the gods.

सर्वे मुनिसुराद्याश्च गच्छन्तः प्रभुणा सह ॥ गिरेः पुरं समुदिताः शशंसुर्बहु नारद ॥ 2-3-42-२० ॥
sarve munisurAdyAzca gacchantaH prabhuNA saha ॥ gireH puraM samuditAH zazaMsurbahu nArada ॥ 2-3-42-20 ॥
O Nārada, the sages, the gods and others accompanying the lord, praised the city of Himavat with great delight.

रचिते शिखरे रम्ये संस्थाप्य देवतादिकम् ॥ जगाम हिमवाँस्तत्र यत्रास्ति विधिवेदिका ॥२१॥
racite zikhare ramye saMsthApya devatAdikam ॥ jagAma himavA~statra yatrAsti vidhivedikA ॥21॥
Stationing the gods and others on his beautiful summit specially arranged for them, Himavat went to the place where the altar for the rites had been erected.

कारयित्वा विशेषेण चतुष्कन्तो रणैर्युतम् ॥ स्नानदानादिकं कृत्वा परीक्षामकरोत्तदा ॥२२॥
kArayitvA vizeSeNa catuSkanto raNairyutam ॥ snAnadAnAdikaM kRtvA parIkSAmakarottadA ॥22॥
After causing squares and quadrangles to be made with festoons, he performed the ceremonial ablutions, gave charitable gifts and supervised everything.

स्वपुत्रान्प्रेषयामास शिवस्य निकटे तथा ॥ हिमो विष्ण्वादिसम्पूर्णवर्गयुक्तस्य शैलराट् ॥२३॥
svaputrAnpreSayAmAsa zivasya nikaTe tathA ॥ himo viSNvAdisampUrNavargayuktasya zailarAT ॥23॥
Then he sent his sons to Śiva accompanied by all his attendants and followers, Viṣṇu and others.

कर्तुमेच्छद्वराचारं महोत्सवपुरस्सरम् ॥ महाहर्षयुतस्सर्वबन्धुयुग्घिमशैलराट् ॥२४॥
kartumecchadvarAcAraM mahotsavapurassaram ॥ mahAharSayutassarvabandhuyugghimazailarAT ॥24॥
The extremely delighted lord of mountains in the company of his kinsmen desired to perform the reception to the bridegroom with great pomp and ceremony.

अथ ते गिरिपु त्राश्च तत्र गत्वा प्रणम्य तम् ॥ सस्ववर्गं प्रार्थनान्तामूचुश्शैलेश्वरस्य वै ॥ २५ ॥
atha te giripu trAzca tatra gatvA praNamya tam ॥ sasvavargaM prArthanAntAmUcuzzailezvarasya vai ॥ 25 ॥
The sons of the mountain accompanied by their relatives went to Śiva and acquainted him with the request of the mountain.

ततस्ते स्वालयं जग्मुश्शैलपुत्रास्तदाज्ञया ॥ शैलराजाय संचख्युस्ते चायान्तीति हर्षिताः ॥२६॥
tataste svAlayaM jagmuzzailaputrAstadAjJayA ॥ zailarAjAya saMcakhyuste cAyAntIti harSitAH ॥26॥
The sons of the mountain came back to their abode with his permission and informed the king of mountains gladly that the bridegroom and the party were on their way there.

अथ देवाः प्रार्थनान्तां गिरेः श्रुत्वातिहर्षिताः ॥ मुने विष्ण्वादयस्सर्वे सेश्वरा मुमुदुर्भृशम् ॥२७॥
atha devAH prArthanAntAM gireH zrutvAtiharSitAH ॥ mune viSNvAdayassarve sezvarA mumudurbhRzam ॥27॥
O sage, on hearing the request thus made, Viṣṇu and other gods with the lord rejoiced much.

कृत्वा सुवेषं सर्वेपि निर्जरा मुनयो गणाः ॥ गमनं चक्रुरन्येपि प्रभुणा गिरिराड्गृहम् ॥ २८ ॥
kRtvA suveSaM sarvepi nirjarA munayo gaNAH ॥ gamanaM cakruranyepi prabhuNA girirADgRham ॥ 28 ॥
Dressed richly and exquisitely the gods, the gaṇas, the sages and others started towards the abode of lord Himavat.

तस्मिन्नवसरे मेना द्रष्टुकामाभवच्छिवम् ॥ प्रभोराह्वाययामास मुने त्वां मुनिसत्तमम् ॥२९॥
tasminnavasare menA draSTukAmAbhavacchivam ॥ prabhorAhvAyayAmAsa mune tvAM munisattamam ॥29॥
In the meantime, Menā desired to see Śiva. O sage, through her lord, you, the excellent sage, were requisitioned there.

अगमस्त्वं मुने तत्र प्रभुणा प्रेरितस्तदा॥ मनसा शिवहृद्धेतुं पूर्णं कर्तुं तमिच्छता ॥ 2-3-42-३० ॥
agamastvaM mune tatra prabhuNA preritastadA॥ manasA zivahRddhetuM pUrNaM kartuM tamicchatA ॥ 2-3-42-30 ॥
O sage, urged by the lord who desired to fulfil the task of Śiva you went there.

त्वाम्प्रणम्य मुने मेना प्राह विस्मितमानसा ॥ द्रष्टुकामा प्रभो रूपं शंकरस्य मदापहम् ॥ ३१ ॥
tvAmpraNamya mune menA prAha vismitamAnasA ॥ draSTukAmA prabho rUpaM zaMkarasya madApaham ॥ 31 ॥
O sage, after bowing to you, Menā with her heart full of surprise told you that she wanted to see the real form of lord Śiva that dispels haughtiness.
