sUta uvAca ॥ zrUyatAmRSayaH sarve zivajJAnaM yathA zrutam॥ kathayAmi mahAguhyaM para muktisvarUpakam ॥ 1 ॥
Sūta said:— O ye sages, may this be heard. I shall explain the perfect knowledge of Śiva in the manner I have heard. It is a great secret as it is the form of the highest salvation.

कनारदकुमाराणां व्यासस्य कपिलस्य च ॥ एतेषां च समाजे तैर्निश्चित्य समुदाहृतम्॥ २॥
kanAradakumArANAM vyAsasya kapilasya ca ॥ eteSAM ca samAje tairnizcitya samudAhRtam॥ 2॥
In the assembly of Brahma, Nārada, Kumāra, Vyāsa and Kapila they had discussed this and come to this conclusion.

iti jJAnaM sadA jJeyaM sarvaM zivamayaM jagat ॥ zivaH sarvamayo jJeyassarvajJena vipazcitA ॥ 3॥
It shall be known that the entire universe is wholly Śiva. That Śiva is in everything must be known by the learned scholar.

आब्रह्मतृणपर्यन्तं यत्किंचिद्दृश्यते जगत् ॥ तत्सर्वं शिव एवास्ति स देवः शिव उच्यते॥ ४॥
AbrahmatRNaparyantaM yatkiMciddRzyate jagat ॥ tatsarvaM ziva evAsti sa devaH ziva ucyate॥ 4॥
Beginning with Brahmā and ending with a blade of grass whatever is seen as constituting the universe is Śiva himself. That deity is called Śiva.

yadecchA tasya jAyeta tadA ca kriyate tvidam ॥ sarvaM sa eva jAnAti taM na jAnAti kazcana ॥ 5॥
When he wishes, this is created. He alone knows all. No one knows him.

रचयित्वा स्वयं तच्च प्रविश्य दूरतः स्थितः॥ न तत्र च प्रविष्टोसौ निर्लिप्तश्चित्स्वरूपवान् ॥ ६॥
racayitvA svayaM tacca pravizya dUrataH sthitaH॥ na tatra ca praviSTosau nirliptazcitsvarUpavAn ॥ 6॥
He himself creates it and enters it but stands far off. The Citsvarūpa (knowledge-formed) being who is pure docs not really enter it.

यथा च ज्योतिषश्चैव जलादौ प्रतिबिंबता ॥ वस्तुतो न प्रवेशो वै तथैव च शिवः स्वयम्॥ ७॥
yathA ca jyotiSazcaiva jalAdau pratibiMbatA ॥ vastuto na pravezo vai tathaiva ca zivaH svayam॥ 7॥
Luminary beings are reflected in water etc. They do not actually enter them. Similarly Śiva too appears entering other things.

वस्तुतस्तु स्वयं सर्वं क्रमो हि भासते शुभः॥ अज्ञानं च मतेर्भेदो नास्त्यन्यच्च द्वयम्पुनः॥ ८॥
vastutastu svayaM sarvaM kramo hi bhAsate zubhaH॥ ajJAnaM ca materbhedo nAstyanyacca dvayampunaH॥ 8॥
Really Śiva alone, the auspicious being, manifests himself. The ignorance of the same is a defect of the mind. In fact there is no second entity.

दर्शनेषु च सर्वेषु मतिभेदः प्रदर्श्यते॥ परं वेदान्तिनो नित्यमद्वैतं प्रतिचक्षते॥ ९॥
darzaneSu ca sarveSu matibhedaH pradarzyate॥ paraM vedAntino nityamadvaitaM praticakSate॥ 9॥
In all philosophical systems the concept of duality is evident. But the Vedāntins call him eternal and non-dualistic.

स्वस्याप्यंशस्य जीवांशो ह्यविद्यामोहितो वशः॥ अन्योऽहमिति जानाति तया मुक्तो भवेच्छिवः॥ १०॥
svasyApyaMzasya jIvAMzo hyavidyAmohito vazaH॥ anyo'hamiti jAnAti tayA mukto bhavecchivaH॥ 10॥
The individual soul, though it is a part of his becomes deluded by Avidyā. He then thinks that he is different. If he is released from Avidyā he becomes Śiva.

सर्वं व्याप्य शिवः साक्षाद् व्यापकः सर्वजन्तुषु॥ चेतनाचेतनेशोपि सर्वत्र शंकरस्स्वयम् ॥ ११॥
sarvaM vyApya zivaH sAkSAd vyApakaH sarvajantuSu॥ cetanAcetanezopi sarvatra zaMkarassvayam ॥ 11॥
Śiva pervades all creatures. He is the lord of the sentient and the insentient. He is the benefactor.

उपायं यः करोत्यस्य दर्शनार्थं विचक्षणः॥ वेदान्तमार्गमाश्रित्य तद्दर्शनफलं लभेत्॥ १२॥
upAyaM yaH karotyasya darzanArthaM vicakSaNaH॥ vedAntamArgamAzritya taddarzanaphalaM labhet॥ 12॥
He who cleverly tries means of realising him after resorting to the Vedāntic path attains the fruit of his sight.

यथाग्निर्व्यापकश्चैव काष्ठेकाष्ठे च तिष्ठति॥ यो वै मंथति तत्काष्ठं स वै पश्यत्यसंशयम्॥ १३॥
yathAgnirvyApakazcaiva kASThekASThe ca tiSThati॥ yo vai maMthati tatkASThaM sa vai pazyatyasaMzayam॥ 13॥
Just as the pervading fire is latent in every block of wood but only he who churns it sees it manifested, to be sure.

भक्त्यादिसाधनानीह यः करोति विचक्षणः॥ स वै पश्यत्यवश्यं हि तं शिवं नात्र संशयः ॥ १४॥
bhaktyAdisAdhanAnIha yaH karoti vicakSaNaH॥ sa vai pazyatyavazyaM hi taM zivaM nAtra saMzayaH ॥ 14॥
So also, the clever devotee who makes use of the expedients of devotion etc. certainly reaches Śiva. This is undoubtedly true.

शिवःशिवःशिवश्चैव नान्यदस्तीति किंचन॥ भ्रान्त्या नानास्वरूपो हि भासते शङ्करस्सदा ॥ १५॥
zivaHzivaHzivazcaiva nAnyadastIti kiMcana॥ bhrAntyA nAnAsvarUpo hi bhAsate zaGkarassadA ॥ 15॥
Lord Śiva is everywhere. There is nothing else. Śiva appears in different forms always due to our illusion.

यथा समुद्रो मृच्चैव सुवर्णमथवा पुनः ॥ उपाधितो हि नानात्वं लभते शंकरस्तथा ॥ १६ ॥
yathA samudro mRccaiva suvarNamathavA punaH ॥ upAdhito hi nAnAtvaM labhate zaMkarastathA ॥ 16 ॥
The ocean or the lump of clay or the piece of gold attains different shapes due to delimiting conditions. Śiva too is so.

कार्यकारणयोर्भेदो वस्तुतो न प्रवर्तते ॥ केवलं भ्रान्तिबुद्ध्यैव तदाभावे स नश्यति ॥ १७ ॥
kAryakAraNayorbhedo vastuto na pravartate ॥ kevalaM bhrAntibuddhyaiva tadAbhAve sa nazyati ॥ 17 ॥
There is one essential difference between the material cause and its effect. The difference is due to illusory perception. If the one ceases to exist, the other is quelled.

तदा बीजात्प्ररोहश्च नानात्वं हि प्रकाशयेत् ॥ अन्ते च बीजमेव स्यात्तत्प्ररोहश्च नश्यति ॥ १८ ॥
tadA bIjAtprarohazca nAnAtvaM hi prakAzayet ॥ ante ca bIjameva syAttatprarohazca nazyati ॥ 18 ॥
The shooting sprout from a seed may exhibit multiplicity but ultimately it becomes the seed and the shoot perishes.

ज्ञानी च बीजमेव स्यात्प्ररोहो विकृतीर्मता ॥ तन्निवृत्तौ पुनर्ज्ञानी नात्र कार्या विचारणा ॥ १९ ॥
jJAnI ca bIjameva syAtpraroho vikRtIrmatA ॥ tannivRttau punarjJAnI nAtra kAryA vicAraNA ॥ 19 ॥
The perfectly wise is the seed. Deformity is the sprout. When the deformity disappears he becomes the perfectly wise again. There is nothing to doubt in this regard.

सर्वं शिवः शिवं सर्वं नास्ति भेदश्च कश्चन ॥ कथं च विविधं पश्यत्येकत्वं च कथं पुनः ॥ २० ॥
sarvaM zivaH zivaM sarvaM nAsti bhedazca kazcana ॥ kathaM ca vividhaM pazyatyekatvaM ca kathaM punaH ॥ 20 ॥
Everything is Śiva. Śiva is everything. There is no difference at all. How is this manifoldness seen? How is the unity regained?

यथैकं चैव सूर्याख्यं ज्योतिर्नानाविधं जनैः ॥ जलादौ च विशेषेण दृश्यते तत्तथैव सः ॥ २१ ॥
yathaikaM caiva sUryAkhyaM jyotirnAnAvidhaM janaiH ॥ jalAdau ca vizeSeNa dRzyate tattathaiva saH ॥ 21 ॥
Just as the luminary called the sun is seen differently in water etc. so also is the case with it.

सर्वत्र व्यापकश्चैव स्पर्शत्वं न विबध्यते ॥ तथैव व्यापको देवो बध्यते न क्वचित्स वै ॥ २२ ॥
sarvatra vyApakazcaiva sparzatvaM na vibadhyate ॥ tathaiva vyApako devo badhyate na kvacitsa vai ॥ 22 ॥
The all-pervading sky is not bound or fettered anywhere. So also the all-pervading lord is not bound anywhere.

साहंकारस्तथा जीवस्तन्मुक्तः शंकरः स्वयम् ॥ जीवस्तुच्छः कर्मभोगो निर्लिप्तः शंकरो महान् ॥ २३ ॥
sAhaMkArastathA jIvastanmuktaH zaMkaraH svayam ॥ jIvastucchaH karmabhogo nirliptaH zaMkaro mahAn ॥ 23 ॥
The individual soul is contaminated by the ego. Śiva is free from it. The individual soul is insignificant and it experiences the fruits of actions. But the great Śiva is uncontaminated.

यथैकं च सुवर्णादि मिलितं रजतादिना ॥ अल्पमूल्यं प्रजायेत तथा जीवोऽप्यहंयुतः ॥ २४ ॥
yathaikaM ca suvarNAdi militaM rajatAdinA ॥ alpamUlyaM prajAyeta tathA jIvo'pyahaMyutaH ॥ 24 ॥
Gold mixed with silver or other base metal depreciates in value. So also is the individual soul in its association with the ego.

यथैव हि सुर्वणादि क्षारादेः शोधितं शुभम्॥ पूर्ववन्मूल्यतां याति तथा जीवोऽपि संस्कृतेः ॥ २५॥
yathaiva hi survaNAdi kSArAdeH zodhitaM zubham॥ pUrvavanmUlyatAM yAti tathA jIvo'pi saMskRteH ॥ 25॥
When a gold alloy is purified with chemicals it regains its original value. Similarly the consecrated soul too attains purity.

प्रथमं सद्गुरुं प्राप्य भक्तिभाव समन्वितः ॥ शिवबुद्ध्या करोत्युच्चैः पूजनं स्मरणादिकम् ॥ २६ ॥
prathamaM sadguruM prApya bhaktibhAva samanvitaH ॥ zivabuddhyA karotyuccaiH pUjanaM smaraNAdikam ॥ 26 ॥
The devotee at the outset shall go to a competent preceptor with devout and reverential feelings. He shall worship and serve him considering him Siva.

तद्बुध्या देहतो याति सर्वपापादिको मलः ॥ तदाऽज्ञानं च नश्येत ज्ञानवाञ्जायते यदा ॥ २७ ॥
tadbudhyA dehato yAti sarvapApAdiko malaH ॥ tadA'jJAnaM ca nazyeta jJAnavAJjAyate yadA ॥ 27 ॥
Thanks to this conception, all sins and dirts are removed from the body. When he gains knowledge his ignorance disappears.

तदाहंकारनिर्मुक्तो जीवो निर्मलबुद्धिमान् ॥ शङ्करस्य प्रसादेन प्रयाति शङ्करताम्पुनः ॥ २८॥
tadAhaMkAranirmukto jIvo nirmalabuddhimAn ॥ zaGkarasya prasAdena prayAti zaGkaratAmpunaH ॥ 28॥
Freed from the ego, the individual soul attains pure intellect. Thanks to Śiva’s grace he attains the state of Śiva again.

यथाऽऽदर्शस्वरूपे च स्वीयरूपं प्रदृश्यते ॥ तथा सर्वत्रगं शम्भु पश्यतीति सुनिश्चितम् ॥ २९॥
yathA''darzasvarUpe ca svIyarUpaM pradRzyate ॥ tathA sarvatragaM zambhu pazyatIti sunizcitam ॥ 29॥
Just as one sees one’s own form in the mirror so also the pure soul secs the all-pervading Śiva, certainly.

जीवन्मुक्तस्य एवासौ देहः शीर्ण शिवे मिलेत् ॥ प्रारब्धवशगो देहस्तद्भिन्नो ज्ञानवान् मतः ॥ ३० ॥
jIvanmuktasya evAsau dehaH zIrNa zive milet ॥ prArabdhavazago dehastadbhinno jJAnavAn mataH ॥ 30 ॥
He becomes the living liberated soul. When the body perishes he merges into Śiva. The body is begot by the Prārabdha karman. The perfectly wise is considered different from it.

शुभं लब्ध्वा न हृष्येत कुप्येल्लब्ध्वाऽशुभं न हि ॥ द्वंद्वेषु समता यस्य ज्ञानवानुच्यते हि सः ॥ ३१ ॥
zubhaM labdhvA na hRSyeta kupyellabdhvA'zubhaM na hi ॥ dvaMdveSu samatA yasya jJAnavAnucyate hi saH ॥ 31 ॥
If a person is not elated on acquiring something good and is not annoyed on acquiring something bad and if he has equanimity, he is said to be perfectly wise.

आत्मयोगेन तत्त्वानामथवा च विवेकतः ॥ यथा शरीरतो यायाच्छरीरं मुक्तिमिच्छतः ॥ ३२ ॥
Atmayogena tattvAnAmathavA ca vivekataH ॥ yathA zarIrato yAyAccharIraM muktimicchataH ॥ 32 ॥
By self-realization of the elements or by discrimination. Just as one who desires liberation from the body goes from the body to the body.

सदाशिवो विलीयेत मुक्तो विरहमेव च ॥ ज्ञानमूलन्तथाध्यात्म्यं तस्य भक्तिश्शिवस्य च ॥ ३३ ॥
sadAzivo vilIyeta mukto virahameva ca ॥ jJAnamUlantathAdhyAtmyaM tasya bhaktizzivasya ca ॥ 33 ॥
Sadashiva will dissolve and be liberated from separation. His devotion to Lord Śiva is the root of knowledge and spirituality.

भक्तेश्च प्रेम संप्रोक्तं प्रेम्णश्च श्रवणन्तथा ॥ श्रवणाच्चापि सत्संगस्सत्संगाच्च गुरुर्बुधः ॥ ३४॥
bhaktezca prema saMproktaM premNazca zravaNantathA ॥ zravaNAccApi satsaMgassatsaMgAcca gururbudhaH ॥ 34॥
From devotion there arises love; from love, the desire to hear about the lord; from this desire, association with the good and from this association a competent preceptor is attained.

सम्पन्ने च तथा ज्ञाने मुक्तो भवति निश्चितम् ॥ इति चेज्ज्ञानवान्यो वै शंभुमेव सदा भजेत् ॥ ३५॥
sampanne ca tathA jJAne mukto bhavati nizcitam ॥ iti cejjJAnavAnyo vai zaMbhumeva sadA bhajet ॥ 35॥
If knowledge is attained he certainly becomes liberated. Hence if one desires to be perfectly wise one should worship Śiva alone always.

अनन्यया च भक्त्या वै युक्तः शम्भुं भजेत्पुनः ॥ अन्ते च मुक्तिमायाति नात्र कार्या विचारणा ॥ ३६॥
ananyayA ca bhaktyA vai yuktaH zambhuM bhajetpunaH ॥ ante ca muktimAyAti nAtra kAryA vicAraNA ॥ 36॥
He shall worship Śiva with unflinching and exclusive devotion. Salvation is the result. There is nothing to be doubtful about this.

अतोऽधिको न देवोऽस्ति मुक्तिप्राप्त्यै च शंकरात्॥ शरणं प्राप्य यश्चैव संसाराद्विनिवर्तते ॥ ३७ ॥
ato'dhiko na devo'sti muktiprAptyai ca zaMkarAt॥ zaraNaM prApya yazcaiva saMsArAdvinivartate ॥ 37 ॥
There is no other deity greater than Śiva for the attainment of salvation. After seeking refuge in him one withdraws from worldly existence.

इति मे विविधं वाक्यमृषीणां च समागतैः ॥ निश्चित्य कथितं विप्रा धिया धार्यं प्रयत्नतः ॥ ३८ ॥
iti me vividhaM vAkyamRSINAM ca samAgataiH ॥ nizcitya kathitaM viprA dhiyA dhAryaM prayatnataH ॥ 38 ॥
O brahmins, these words have been uttered by me after considering the statement of sages. You shall retain these strenuously in your minds.

प्रथमं विष्णवे दत्तं शंभुना लिंगसन्मुखे ॥ विष्णुना ब्रह्मणे दत्तं ब्रह्मणा सनकादिषु ॥ ३९ ॥
prathamaM viSNave dattaM zaMbhunA liMgasanmukhe ॥ viSNunA brahmaNe dattaM brahmaNA sanakAdiSu ॥ 39 ॥
At the outset this instruction was given to Viṣṇu by Śiva in front of his phallic image. It was then given to Brahmā by Viṣṇu and to Sanaka and others by Brahmā.

नारदाय ततः प्रोक्तं तज्ज्ञानं सनकादिभिः ॥ व्यासाय नारदेनोक्तं तेन मह्यं कृपालुना ॥ ४० ॥
nAradAya tataH proktaM tajjJAnaM sanakAdibhiH ॥ vyAsAya nAradenoktaM tena mahyaM kRpAlunA ॥ 40 ॥
That knowledge was then imparted to Nārada by Sanaka and others. Nārada communicated it to Vyāsa and the merciful Vyāsa communicated it to me.

मया चैव भवद्भ्यश्च भवद्भिर्लोकहेतवे ॥ स्थापनीयं प्रयत्नेन शिवप्राप्तिकरं च तत् ॥ ४१ ॥
mayA caiva bhavadbhyazca bhavadbhirlokahetave ॥ sthApanIyaM prayatnena zivaprAptikaraM ca tat ॥ 41 ॥
I have now communicated it to you. For the welfare of the world you shall establish this in the world strenuously. It is conducive to the attainment of Śiva.

iti vazca samAkhyAtaM yatpRSTo'haM munIzvarAH ॥ gopanIyaM prayatnena kimanyacchrotumicchatha ॥ 42 ॥
O great sages; thus, what I have been asked has been narrated by me. You shall preserve this carefully. What else do you wish to hear?

vyAsa uvAca ॥ etacchutvA tu RSaya AnandaM paramaM gatAH ॥ harSagadgadayA vAcA natvA te tuSTuvurmuhuH ॥ 43॥
Vyāsa said:— On hearing this, the sages attained great bliss. After bowing to him they eulogised him again and again with words choked with pleasure.

RSaya UcuH ॥ vyAsaziSya namaste'stu dhanyastvaM zaivasattamaH ॥ zrAvitaM naH paraM vastu zaivaM jJAnamanuttamam ॥ 44॥
The sages said:— O disciple of Vyāsa, obeisance be to you. You are blessed. You are the most excellent of the devotees oí Śiva. The highest thing, the excellent knowledge of Śiva has been imparted to us.

अस्माकं चेतसो भ्रान्तिर्गता हि कृपया तव ॥ सन्तुष्टाश्शिवसज्ज्ञानं प्राप्य त्वत्तो विमुक्तिदम् ॥ ४५॥
asmAkaM cetaso bhrAntirgatA hi kRpayA tava ॥ santuSTAzzivasajjJAnaM prApya tvatto vimuktidam ॥ 45॥
Thanks to your mercy, our mental delusion has vanished. Securing the excellent knowledge of Śiva from you we are satisfied. This knowledge yields salvation.

सूत उवाच ॥ नास्तिकाय न वक्तव्यमश्रद्धाय शठाय च॥ अभक्ताय महेशस्य न चाशुश्रुषवे द्विजाः॥ ४६॥
sUta uvAca ॥ nAstikAya na vaktavyamazraddhAya zaThAya ca॥ abhaktAya mahezasya na cAzuzruSave dvijAH॥ 46॥
Sūta said:— O brahmins, this shall not be mentioned to an atheist or an unfaithful man or a rogue. Nor shall it be mentioned to one who has no devotion to Śiva or who does not wish to hear.

इतिहासपुराणानि वेदाच्छास्त्राणि चासकृत् ॥ विचार्य्योद्धृत्य तत्सारं मह्यं व्यासेन भाषितम् ॥ ४७ ॥
itihAsapurANAni vedAcchAstrANi cAsakRt ॥ vicAryyoddhRtya tatsAraM mahyaM vyAsena bhASitam ॥ 47 ॥
After poring through Itihāsas, Purāṇas, Vedas and Śāstras many a time, Vyāsa extracted this essence and imparted it to me.

एतच्छ्रुत्वा ह्येकवारं भवेत्पापं हि भस्मसात् ॥ अभक्तो भक्तिमाप्नोति भक्तस्य भक्तिवर्द्धनम्॥ ४८॥
etacchrutvA hyekavAraM bhavetpApaM hi bhasmasAt ॥ abhakto bhaktimApnoti bhaktasya bhaktivarddhanam॥ 48॥
On hearing this once, all sins are reduced to ashes. A non-devotee becomes a devotee. This enhances the devotion of the devotee.

पुनश्श्रुते च सद्भक्तिर्मुक्तिस्स्याच्च श्रुते पुनः॥ तस्मात्पुनःपुनश्श्राव्यं भुक्तिमुक्तिफलेप्सुभिः॥ ४९॥
punazzrute ca sadbhaktirmuktissyAcca zrute punaH॥ tasmAtpunaHpunazzrAvyaM bhuktimuktiphalepsubhiH॥ 49॥
If it is heard again one attains good devotion. If it is heard again liberation is attained. Hence this must be heard again and again by the devotees who desire to get the benefit of worldly pleasures and salvation.

आवृत्तयः पंच कार्याः समुद्दिश्य फलं परम्॥ तत्प्राप्नोति न सन्देहो व्यासस्य वचनं त्विदम्॥ ५०॥
AvRttayaH paMca kAryAH samuddizya phalaM param॥ tatprApnoti na sandeho vyAsasya vacanaM tvidam॥ 50॥
With the expectation of the greatest benefit it shall be repeated five, times. There is no doubt. He will attain it. Vyāsa has said so.

न दुर्लभं हि तस्यैव येनेदं श्रुतमुत्तमम् ॥ पंचकृत्वस्तदावृत्त्या लभ्यते शिवदर्शनम्॥ ५१॥
na durlabhaM hi tasyaiva yenedaM zrutamuttamam ॥ paMcakRtvastadAvRttyA labhyate zivadarzanam॥ 51॥
Nothing is difficult to get for a man who hears this excellent thing. By repeating it five times Śiva’s vision is attained.

पुरातनाश्च राजानो विप्रा वैश्याश्च सत्तमाः ॥ इदं श्रुत्वा पंचकृत्वो धिया सिद्धिं परां गताः ॥ ५२ ॥
purAtanAzca rAjAno viprA vaizyAzca sattamAH ॥ idaM zrutvA paMcakRtvo dhiyA siddhiM parAM gatAH ॥ 52 ॥
Ancient kings, brahmins and excellent Vaiśyas have attained great Siddhis by listening to this with attention, five times.

श्रोष्यत्यद्यापि यश्चेदं मानवो भक्तितत्परः ॥ विज्ञानं शिवसंज्ञं वै भुक्तिं मुक्तिं लभेच्च सः ॥ ५३ ॥
zroSyatyadyApi yazcedaM mAnavo bhaktitatparaH ॥ vijJAnaM zivasaMjJaM vai bhuktiM muktiM labhecca saH ॥ 53 ॥
Even now if a man listens to this with devotion he will attain perfect knowledge of Śiva, worldly pleasures and salvation.

॥ vyAsa uvAca ॥ iti tadvacanaM zrutvA paramAnandamAgatAH ॥ samAnarcuzca te bhUtaM nAnAvastubhirAdarAta ॥ 54॥
Vyāsa said:— On hearing his words the sages were extremely delighted. They worshipped Sūta with reverence offering him various articles.

नमस्कारैः स्तवैश्चैव स्वस्तिवाचनपूर्वकम्॥ आशीर्भिर्वर्द्धयामासुः संतुष्टाश्छिन्नसंशयाः ॥ ५५ ॥
namaskAraiH stavaizcaiva svastivAcanapUrvakam॥ AzIrbhirvarddhayAmAsuH saMtuSTAzchinnasaMzayAH ॥ 55 ॥
Satisfied and cleared of their doubts they bowed to him, eulogised him, hailed him. and blessed him.

परस्परं च संतुष्टाः सूतस्ते च सुबुद्धयः ॥ शंभुं देवं परं मत्वा नमंति स्म भजंति च ॥ ५६ ॥
parasparaM ca saMtuSTAH sUtaste ca subuddhayaH ॥ zaMbhuM devaM paraM matvA namaMti sma bhajaMti ca ॥ 56 ॥
Considering Sūta to be the great lord Śiva they worshipped him and bowed to him. With good intellect they praised him speaking to one another.

एतच्छिवसुविज्ञानं शिवस्यातिप्रियं महत् ॥ भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदं दिव्यं शिवभक्तिविवर्द्धनम् ॥ ५७॥
etacchivasuvijJAnaM zivasyAtipriyaM mahat ॥ bhuktimuktipradaM divyaM zivabhaktivivarddhanam ॥ 57॥
The excellent knowledge of Śiva is pleasing to Śiva; it yields worldly pleasures and salvation; it enhances devotion to Śiva It is divine.

इयं हि संहिता पुण्या कोटिरुद्राह्वया परा॥ चतुर्थी शिव पुराणस्य कथिता मे मुदावहा ॥ ५८॥
iyaM hi saMhitA puNyA koTirudrAhvayA parA॥ caturthI ziva purANasya kathitA me mudAvahA ॥ 58॥
Thus the fourth meritorious and pleasing compendium of Śivapurāṇa named Koṭirudra has been narrated.

एतां यः शृणुयाद्भक्त्या श्रावयेद्वा समाहितः ॥ स भुक्त्वेहाखिलान्भोगानंते परगतिं लभेत् ॥ ५९ ॥
etAM yaH zRNuyAdbhaktyA zrAvayedvA samAhitaH ॥ sa bhuktvehAkhilAnbhogAnaMte paragatiM labhet ॥ 59 ॥
He who listens to this with devotion and narrates this with pure mind enjoys all pleasures here and attains salvation hereafter.
