sUta uvAca ॥ evaM kRte tu RSiNA sastrIkena dvijAzzivaH ॥ AvirbabhUva sa zivaH prasannassagaNastadA ॥ 1॥
Sūta said:— O brahmins, when all this was performed thus by the sage along with his wife, the delighted Śiva accompanied by his Gaṇas appeared before him.

अथ प्रसन्नस्स शिवो वरं ब्रूहि महामुने ॥ प्रसन्नोऽहं सुभक्त्या त इत्युवाच कृपानिधिः ॥ २॥
atha prasannassa zivo varaM brUhi mahAmune ॥ prasanno'haM subhaktyA ta ityuvAca kRpAnidhiH ॥ 2॥
Then the gladdened Śiva, the storehouse of mercy said—“O great sage, mention the boon you wish to choose. I am delighted with your devotion.”

तदा तत्सुंदरं रूपं दृष्ट्वा शंभोर्महात्मनः ॥ प्रणम्य शंकरं भक्त्या स्तुतिं चक्रे मुदान्वितः ॥ ३ ॥
tadA tatsuMdaraM rUpaM dRSTvA zaMbhormahAtmanaH ॥ praNamya zaMkaraM bhaktyA stutiM cakre mudAnvitaH ॥ 3 ॥
On seeing, the beautiful form of Śiva, the supreme soul, the sage bowed to Śiva with devotion and eulogised him joyously.

स्तुत्वा बहु प्रणम्येशं बद्धाञ्जलिपुटः स्थितः ॥ निष्पापं कुरु मां देवाब्रवीदिति स गौतमः ॥ ४॥
stutvA bahu praNamyezaM baddhAJjalipuTaH sthitaH ॥ niSpApaM kuru mAM devAbravIditi sa gautamaH ॥ 4॥
After eulogising and bowing to him many times, Gautama stood there with palms joined in reverence and said—“O lord, make me sinless.”

sUta uvAca ॥ ityAkarNya vacastasya gautamasya mahAtmanaH ॥ suprasannataro bhUtvA zivo vAkyamupAdade ॥ 5॥
On hearing these words of the noble soul Gautama, Śiva became much delighted and spoke.

शिव उवाच ॥ धन्योऽसि कृतकृत्योऽसि निष्पापोऽसि सदा मुने ॥ एतैर्दुष्टैः किल त्वं च च्छलितोऽसि खिलात्मभिः ॥ ६ ॥
ziva uvAca ॥ dhanyo'si kRtakRtyo'si niSpApo'si sadA mune ॥ etairduSTaiH kila tvaM ca cchalito'si khilAtmabhiH ॥ 6 ॥
Śiva said:— O sage, you are blessed. You shall be contented. You are already sinless. You have been deceived by these wicked knaves.

त्वदीयदर्शनाल्लोका निष्पापाश्च भवंति हि ॥ किं पुनस्त्वं सपापोऽसि मद्भक्तिनिरतस्सदा ॥ ७ ॥
tvadIyadarzanAllokA niSpApAzca bhavaMti hi ॥ kiM punastvaM sapApo'si madbhaktiniratassadA ॥ 7 ॥
Indeed, on seeing you, people become sinless. How can you be a sinner? You are always engaged in devotion to me.

उपद्रवस्त्वयि मुने यैः कृतस्तु दुरात्मभिः ॥ ते पापाश्च दुराचारा हत्यावंतस्त एव हि ॥ ८॥
upadravastvayi mune yaiH kRtastu durAtmabhiH ॥ te pApAzca durAcArA hatyAvaMtasta eva hi ॥ 8॥
O sage, indeed, all the wicked persons, by whom you have been harassed, are sinners, evil-minded and murder-stained.

एतेषां दर्शनादन्ये पापिष्ठाः संभवंतु च ॥ कृतघ्नाश्च तथा जाता नैतेषां निष्कृतिः क्वचित् ॥ ९ ॥
eteSAM darzanAdanye pApiSThAH saMbhavaMtu ca ॥ kRtaghnAzca tathA jAtA naiteSAM niSkRtiH kvacit ॥ 9 ॥
Others too are likely to be sinners on seeing these. They have become already ungrateful. There is no way of atonement for them.

sUta uvAca ॥ ityuktvA zaMkarastasmai teSAM duzcaritaM tadA ॥ bahUvAca prabhurviprAH satkado'satsu daMDadaH ॥ 10 ॥
Sūta said:— After saying this, O brahmins, lord Śiva, the bestower of happiness to the good and chastiser of the wicked told him their evil actions in detail.

शर्वोक्तमिति स श्रुत्वा सुविस्मितमना ऋषिः ॥ सुप्रणम्य शिवं भक्त्या सांजलिः पुनरब्रवीत् ॥ ११॥
zarvoktamiti sa zrutvA suvismitamanA RSiH ॥ supraNamya zivaM bhaktyA sAMjaliH punarabravIt ॥ 11॥
On hearing the words of Śiva, the sage was greatly surprised. After bowing to him with devotion) he spoke again to him with palms joined in reverence.

गौतम उवाच ॥ ऋषिभिस्तैर्महेशान ह्युपकारः कृतो महान् ॥ यद्येवं न कृतं तैस्तु दर्शनं ते कुतो भवेत् ॥ १२ ॥
gautama uvAca ॥ RSibhistairmahezAna hyupakAraH kRto mahAn ॥ yadyevaM na kRtaM taistu darzanaM te kuto bhavet ॥ 12 ॥
Gautama said:— O lord Śiva, a great help has been rendered by these sages. If they had not done like this, how could I have had your vision?

धन्यास्ते ऋषयो यैस्तु मह्यं शुभतरं कृतम् ॥ तद्दुराचरणादेव मम स्वार्थो महानभूत् ॥ १३ ॥
dhanyAste RSayo yaistu mahyaM zubhataraM kRtam ॥ taddurAcaraNAdeva mama svArtho mahAnabhUt ॥ 13 ॥
Blessed indeed are the sages who have pursued this auspicious activity towards me. It is by their so-called evil action that my great self-interest is made possible;

sUta uvAca ॥ ityevaM tadvacazzrutvA suprasanno mahezvaraH॥ gautamaM pratyuvAcAzu kRpAdRSTyA vilokya ca ॥ 14 ॥
Sūta said:— On hearing his words, lord Śiva became all the more delighted. Looking at Gautama mercifully he replied,

शिव उवाच ॥ ऋषि धन्योसि विप्रेंद्र ऋषे श्रेष्ठतरोऽसि वै ॥ ज्ञात्वा मां सुप्रसन्नं हि वृणु त्वं वरमुत्तमम् ॥ १५ ॥
ziva uvAca ॥ RSi dhanyosi vipreMdra RSe zreSThataro'si vai ॥ jJAtvA mAM suprasannaM hi vRNu tvaM varamuttamam ॥ 15 ॥
Śiva said:— O leading brahmin, you are a blessed sage. You are the most excellent among sages. Realising that I am highly delighted, you choose the excellent boon.

सूत उवाच ॥ गौतमोऽपि विचार्यैव लोके विश्रुतमित्युत॥ अन्यथा न भवेदेव तस्मादुक्तं समाचरेत्॥ १६॥
sUta uvAca ॥ gautamo'pi vicAryaiva loke vizrutamityuta॥ anyathA na bhavedeva tasmAduktaM samAcaret॥ 16॥
Suta said. Gautama also considered it and said that it was well known in the world. Otherwise it will not happen therefore one should do what is said.

निश्चित्यैवं मुनिश्रेष्ठो गौतमश्शिवभक्तिमान् ॥ सांजलिर्नतशीर्षो हि शंकरं वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥ १७ ॥
nizcityaivaM munizreSTho gautamazzivabhaktimAn ॥ sAMjalirnatazIrSo hi zaMkaraM vAkyamabravIt ॥ 17 ॥
Having thus decided Gautama the best of sages and devotee of Lord Śiva With folded hands and bowed head he addressed Lord Śiva.

गौतम उवाच ॥ सत्यं नाथ ब्रवीषि त्वं तथापि पंचभिः कृतम् ॥ नान्यथा भवतीत्यत्र यज्जातं जायतां तु तत्॥ १८॥
gautama uvAca ॥ satyaM nAtha bravISi tvaM tathApi paMcabhiH kRtam ॥ nAnyathA bhavatItyatra yajjAtaM jAyatAM tu tat॥ 18॥
Gautama said:— O lord, what you say is true. Still what is done by the five leading persons cannot be otherwise. So, let what has happened happen.

यदि प्रसन्नो देवेश गंगा च दीयतां मम॥ कुरु लोकोपकारं हि नमस्तेऽस्तु नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ १९ ॥
yadi prasanno deveza gaMgA ca dIyatAM mama॥ kuru lokopakAraM hi namaste'stu namo'stu te ॥ 19 ॥
O lord of gods, if you are delighted, may Gaṅgā be given to me. Render help to the worlds. Obeisance be to you.

सूत उवाच ॥ इत्युक्त्वा वचनं तस्य धृत्वा वै पादपंकजम् ॥ नमश्चकार देवेशं गौतमो लोककाम्यया ॥ २० ॥
sUta uvAca ॥ ityuktvA vacanaM tasya dhRtvA vai pAdapaMkajam ॥ namazcakAra devezaM gautamo lokakAmyayA ॥ 20 ॥
Sūta said:— After saying these words and grasping his lotus-like feet, Gautama made obeisance to the lord of gods with a desire for the welfare of the worlds.

ततस्तु शंकरो देवः पृथिव्याश्च दिवश्च सः ॥ सारं चैव समुद्धृत्य रक्षितं पूर्वमेव तत् ॥ २१ ॥
tatastu zaMkaro devaH pRthivyAzca divazca saH ॥ sAraM caiva samuddhRtya rakSitaM pUrvameva tat ॥ 21 ॥
Then Lord Śiva became the lord of the earth and the heavens The essence was also taken out and preserved in the past.

विवाहे ब्रह्मणा दत्तमवशिष्टं च किंचन ॥ तत्तस्मै दत्तवाञ्च्छंभुर्मुनये भक्तवत्सलः ॥ २२ ॥
vivAhe brahmaNA dattamavaziSTaM ca kiMcana ॥ tattasmai dattavAJcchaMbhurmunaye bhaktavatsalaH ॥ 22 ॥
Whatever was left over was given by Brahma at the marriage ceremony Lord Śambhu who is affectionate to his devotees gave it to the sage.

गंगाजलं तदा तत्र स्त्रीरूपमभवत्परम् ॥ तस्याश्चैव ऋषिश्रेष्ठः स्तुतिं कृत्वा नतिं व्यधात् ॥ २३ ॥
gaMgAjalaM tadA tatra strIrUpamabhavatparam ॥ tasyAzcaiva RSizreSThaH stutiM kRtvA natiM vyadhAt ॥ 23 ॥
Then the waters of Gaṅgā assumed the form of a lady and stood there. The excellent sage eulogised her and made obeisance.

गौतम उवाच ॥ धन्यासि कृतकृत्यासि पावितं भुवनं त्वया ॥ मां च पावय गंगे त्वं पततं निरये ध्रुवम् ॥ २४ ॥
gautama uvAca ॥ dhanyAsi kRtakRtyAsi pAvitaM bhuvanaM tvayA ॥ mAM ca pAvaya gaMge tvaM patataM niraye dhruvam ॥ 24 ॥
Gautama said:— O Gaṅgā, you are blessed. You are contented. The whole world has been sanctified by you. Sanctify me too. I am likely to fall into hell.

सूत उवाच ॥ शंभुश्चापि तदोवाच सर्वेषां हितकृच्छृणु ॥ गंगे गौतममेनं त्वं पावयस्व मदाज्ञया ॥ २५ ॥
sUta uvAca ॥ zaMbhuzcApi tadovAca sarveSAM hitakRcchRNu ॥ gaMge gautamamenaM tvaM pAvayasva madAjJayA ॥ 25 ॥
Sūta said:— Śiva too then spoke—“O Gaṅgā, listen. You are beneficial to all. At my behest, sanctify Gautama also.”

॥ sUta uvAca ॥ iti zrutvA vacastasya zaMbhozca gautamasya ca ॥ uvAcaiva zivaM gaMgA zivabhaktirhi pAvanI ॥ 26॥
On hearing these words of Śiva and Gautama, Gaṅgā, the holy Śakti of Śiva, spoke to Śiva.

गंगोवाच ॥ ऋषिं तु पावयित्वाहं परिवारयुतं प्रभो ॥ गमिष्यामि निजस्थानं वचस्सत्यं ब्रवीमि ह ॥ २७ ॥
gaMgovAca ॥ RSiM tu pAvayitvAhaM parivArayutaM prabho ॥ gamiSyAmi nijasthAnaM vacassatyaM bravImi ha ॥ 27 ॥
Gaṅgā said:— O lord, after sanctifying the sage along with his followers, I shall return to my abode. I am telling you the truth.

सूत उवाच ॥ ॥ इत्युक्तो गंगया तत्र महेशो भक्तवत्सलः ॥ लोकोपकरणार्थाय पुनर्गगां वचोऽब्रवीत् ॥ २८ ॥
sUta uvAca ॥ ॥ ityukto gaMgayA tatra mahezo bhaktavatsalaH ॥ lokopakaraNArthAya punargagAM vaco'bravIt ॥ 28 ॥
Sūta said:— When this was mentioned by Gaṅgā, lord Śiva, favourably disposed towards his devotees, spoke again to Gaṅgā keeping in mind the welfare of the worlds.

शिव उवाच ॥ त्वया स्थातव्यमत्रैव व्रजेद्यावत्कलिर्युगः ॥ वैवस्वतो मनुर्देवि ह्यष्टाविंशत्तमो भवेत् ॥ २९॥
ziva uvAca ॥ tvayA sthAtavyamatraiva vrajedyAvatkaliryugaH ॥ vaivasvato manurdevi hyaSTAviMzattamo bhavet ॥ 29॥
Śiva said:— O goddess, till the advent of the Kali Yuga, when the son of Vivasvat shall be the twenty-eighth Manu, you shall stay here alone.

sUta uvAca॥ iti zrutvA vacastasya svAminazzaMkarasya tat ॥ pratyuvAca punargaMgA pAvanI sA saridvarA ॥ 30 ॥
Sūta said:— On hearing these words of lord Śiva, Gaṅgā the sanctifying leading river replied.

गंगोवाच ॥ माहात्म्यमधिकं चेत्स्यान्मम स्वामिन्महेश्वर ॥ सर्वेभ्यश्च तदा स्थास्ये धरायां त्रिपुरान्तकः ॥ ३१॥
gaMgovAca ॥ mAhAtmyamadhikaM cetsyAnmama svAminmahezvara ॥ sarvebhyazca tadA sthAsye dharAyAM tripurAntakaH ॥ 31॥
Gaṅgā said:— O lord Śiva, O slayer of the Tripuras, if my greatness were to surpass that of all, I shall stay on the earth.

किं चान्यच्च शृणु स्वामिन्वपुषा सुन्दरेण ह ॥ तिष्ठ त्वं मत्समीपे वै सगणसांबिकः प्रभो ॥ ३२॥
kiM cAnyacca zRNu svAminvapuSA sundareNa ha ॥ tiSTha tvaM matsamIpe vai sagaNasAMbikaH prabho ॥ 32॥
O lord, please listen to something more. O lord, please abide with me with this beautiful body of yours along with your consort and the Gaṇas.

सूत उवाच ॥ एवं तस्या वचः श्रुत्वा शंकरो भक्तवत्सलः ॥ लोकोपकरणार्थाय पुनर्गंगां वचोब्रवीत् ॥ ३३॥
sUta uvAca ॥ evaM tasyA vacaH zrutvA zaMkaro bhaktavatsalaH ॥ lokopakaraNArthAya punargaMgAM vacobravIt ॥ 33॥
Sūta said:— On hearing her words, Śiva favourably disposed towards his devotees, spoke again to Gaṅgā for rendering help to the worlds.

शिव उवाच ॥ धन्यासि श्रूयतां गंगे ह्यहं भिन्नस्त्वया न हि ॥ तथापि स्थीयते ह्यत्र स्थीयतां च त्वयापि हि ॥ ३४॥
ziva uvAca ॥ dhanyAsi zrUyatAM gaMge hyahaM bhinnastvayA na hi ॥ tathApi sthIyate hyatra sthIyatAM ca tvayApi hi ॥ 34॥
Śiva said:— O Gaṅgā you are blessed. Listen. I am not distinct from you. Still I stay here. You too must stay.

सूत उवाच ॥ इत्येवं वचनं श्रुत्वा स्वामिनः परमेशितुः ॥ प्रसन्नमानसा भूत्वा गंगा च प्रत्यपूजयत् ॥ ३५॥
sUta uvAca ॥ ityevaM vacanaM zrutvA svAminaH paramezituH ॥ prasannamAnasA bhUtvA gaMgA ca pratyapUjayat ॥ 35॥
Sūta said:— On hearing these words of lord Śiva, Gaṅgā was delighted in the mind and she accepted his advice.

एतस्मिन्नंतरे देवा ऋषयश्च पुरातनाः ॥ सुतार्थान्यप्यनेकानि क्षेत्राणि विविधानि च ॥ ३६ ॥
etasminnaMtare devA RSayazca purAtanAH ॥ sutArthAnyapyanekAni kSetrANi vividhAni ca ॥ 36 ॥
After this the ancient devas and sages There were also many fields of various kinds for the sake of daughters.

आगत्य गौतमं सर्वे गंगां च गिरिशं तथा ॥ जयजयेति भाषंतः पूजयामासुरादरात् ॥ ३७॥
Agatya gautamaM sarve gaMgAM ca girizaM tathA ॥ jayajayeti bhASaMtaH pUjayAmAsurAdarAt ॥ 37॥
They all came to Gautama Ganga and Girish They worshiped him with reverence, shouting, “Jaya, jaya!”

ततस्ते निर्जरा सर्वे तेषां चक्रुः स्तुतिं मुदा ॥ करान् बद्ध्वा नतस्कंधा हरिब्रह्मादयस्तदा ॥ ३८॥
tataste nirjarA sarve teSAM cakruH stutiM mudA ॥ karAn baddhvA nataskaMdhA haribrahmAdayastadA ॥ 38॥
Thereafter Viṣṇu, Brahmā and other gods eulogised them joyously joining their palms and drooping down their shoulders.

गंगा प्रसन्ना तेभ्यश्च गिरिशश्चोचतुस्तदा॥ वरं ब्रूत सुरश्रेष्ठा दद्वो वः प्रियकाम्यया ॥ ३९॥
gaMgA prasannA tebhyazca girizazcocatustadA॥ varaM brUta surazreSThA dadvo vaH priyakAmyayA ॥ 39॥
Gaṅgā and Pārvatī were delighted and they said “O excellent gods, mention the boon you desire to choose. We shall grant the same with a desire to do what is pleasing to you.”

देवा ऊचुः ॥ यदि प्रसन्नो देवेश प्रसन्ना त्वं सरिद्वरे ॥ स्थातव्यमत्र कृपया नः प्रियार्थं तथा नृणाम् ॥ ४० ॥
devA UcuH ॥ yadi prasanno deveza prasannA tvaM saridvare ॥ sthAtavyamatra kRpayA naH priyArthaM tathA nRNAm ॥ 40 ॥
The gods said:— “O lord of gods, O leading, river, if you are delighted, you shall stay here taking pity on us and for the benefit of men.”

॥ gaMgovAca ॥ yUyaM sarvapriyArthaM ca tiSThathAtra na kiM punaH ॥ gautamaM kSAlayitvAhaM gamiSyAmi yathAgatam॥ 41॥
Gaṅgā said: Why don't you stay here for the pleasure and welfare of all? After washing off the sin of Gautama I shall go back the way I have come.

bhavatsu me vizeSotra jJeyazcaiva kathaM surAH ॥ tatpramANaM kRtaM cetsyAttadA tiSThAmyasaMzayam ॥ 42॥
O gods, how may my speciality be known apart from yours? If you can prove the same, I shall undoubtedly stay here.

॥ sarve UcuH ॥ siMharAzau yadA syAdvai gurussarvasuhRttamaH ॥ tadA vayaM ca sarve tvAgamiSyAmo na saMzayaH ॥ 43 ॥
The gods said:— 43. When Jupiter, the most friendly to all, comes to the zodiac of Leo all of us will come. There is no doubt about it.

एकादश च वर्षाणि लोकानां पातकं त्विह ॥ क्षालितं यद्भवेदेवं मलिनास्स्मः सरिद्वरे ॥ ४४॥
ekAdaza ca varSANi lokAnAM pAtakaM tviha ॥ kSAlitaM yadbhavedevaM malinAssmaH saridvare ॥ 44॥
For eleven years the sins of the worlds have been in this world. Whatever is washed away, we are dirty in the best of rivers.

tasyaiva kSAlanAya tvAyAsyAmassarvathA priye ॥ tvatsakAzaM mahAdevi procyate satyamAdarAt ॥ 45॥
We will try to wash you off for that very reason, dear one. O great goddess I am speaking with truth and respect to you.

अनुग्रहाय लोकानामस्माकं प्रियकाम्यया॥ स्थातव्यं शंकरेणापि त्वया चैव सरिद्वरे ॥ ४६ ॥
anugrahAya lokAnAmasmAkaM priyakAmyayA॥ sthAtavyaM zaMkareNApi tvayA caiva saridvare ॥ 46 ॥
To bless the worlds, to do what is pleasing to us Śiva shall stay here and you too, O leading river.

यावत्सिंहे गुरुश्चैव स्थास्यामस्तावदेव हि ॥ त्वयि स्नानं त्रिकालं च शंकरस्य च दर्शनम् ॥ ४७ ॥
yAvatsiMhe guruzcaiva sthAsyAmastAvadeva hi ॥ tvayi snAnaM trikAlaM ca zaMkarasya ca darzanam ॥ 47 ॥
As long as we remain in the lion and the preceptor I have bathed in you three times and have seen Lord Śiva.

कृत्वा स्वपापं निखिलं विमोक्ष्यामो न संशयः ॥ स्वदेशांश्च गमिष्यामो भवच्छासनतो वयम् ॥ ४८॥
kRtvA svapApaM nikhilaM vimokSyAmo na saMzayaH ॥ svadezAMzca gamiSyAmo bhavacchAsanato vayam ॥ 48॥
Having committed all our sins we shall undoubtedly be freed By your command we shall return to our own countries.

sUta uvAca ॥ ityevaM prArthitastaistu gautamena maharSiNA ॥ sthito'sau zaMkaraH prItyA sthitA sA ca saridvarA ॥ 49॥
Sūta said:— Thus requested by them as well as by the sage Gautama, Śiva stayed there with pleasure. The excellent river Gaṅgā too stayed.

सा गंगा गौतमी नाम्ना लिंगं त्र्यंबकमीरितम् ॥ ख्याता ख्यातं बभूवाथ महापातकनाशनम् ॥ ५०॥
sA gaMgA gautamI nAmnA liMgaM tryaMbakamIritam ॥ khyAtA khyAtaM babhUvAtha mahApAtakanAzanam ॥ 50॥
Gaṅgā there became famous as Gautamī. The phallic image became famous by the name Tryambaka. Both are destructive of great sins.

तद्दिनं हि समारभ्य सिंहस्थे च बृहस्पतौ ॥ आयांति सर्वतीर्थानि क्षेत्राणि देवतानि च ॥ ५१ ॥
taddinaM hi samArabhya siMhasthe ca bRhaspatau ॥ AyAMti sarvatIrthAni kSetrANi devatAni ca ॥ 51 ॥
From that time onwards whenever Jupiter enters Leo, the holy rivers, sacred centres and the gods come there.

सरांसि पुष्करादीनि गंगाद्यास्सरितस्तथा ॥ वासुदेवादयो देवाः संति वै गोतमीतटे ॥ ५२ ॥
sarAMsi puSkarAdIni gaMgAdyAssaritastathA ॥ vAsudevAdayo devAH saMti vai gotamItaTe ॥ 52 ॥
The holy lakes Puṣkara, and others, the sacred river Gaṅgā and others, Vāsudeva and other gods stay on the banks of the Gautamī river.

यावत्तत्र स्थितानीह तावत्तेषां फलं न हि ॥ स्वप्रदेशे समायातास्तर्ह्येतेषां फलं भवेत् ॥ ५३॥
yAvattatra sthitAnIha tAvatteSAM phalaM na hi ॥ svapradeze samAyAtAstarhyeteSAM phalaM bhavet ॥ 53॥
While they are here they lose sacredness in their original places. They will have it back when they return there.

ज्योतिर्लिंगमिदं प्रोक्तं त्र्यंबकं नाम विश्रुतम्॥ स्थितं तटे हि गौतम्या महापातकनाशनम् ॥ ५४ ॥
jyotirliMgamidaM proktaM tryaMbakaM nAma vizrutam॥ sthitaM taTe hi gautamyA mahApAtakanAzanam ॥ 54 ॥
This is a Jyotirliṅga famous as Tryambaka. It is stationed on the banks of the Gautamī destructive of great sins.

यः पश्येद्भक्तितो ज्योतिर्लिंगं त्र्यंबकनामकम् ॥ पूजयेत्प्रणमेत्स्तुत्वा सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते ॥ ५५ ॥
yaH pazyedbhaktito jyotirliMgaM tryaMbakanAmakam ॥ pUjayetpraNametstutvA sarvapApaiH pramucyate ॥ 55 ॥
He who sees the Jyotirliṅga Tryambaka with devotion and worships with obeisance after eulogising it is freed from all sins.

ज्योतिर्लिंगं त्र्यंबकं हि पूजितं गौतमेन ह ॥ सर्वकामप्रदं चात्र परत्र परमुक्तिदम् ॥ ५६ ॥
jyotirliMgaM tryaMbakaM hi pUjitaM gautamena ha ॥ sarvakAmapradaM cAtra paratra paramuktidam ॥ 56 ॥
This very Jyotirliṅga Tryambaka was worshipped by Gautama. Being worshipped it yields all desires here and bestows liberation hereafter.

इति वश्च समाख्यातं यत्पृष्टोऽहं मुनीश्वराः ॥ किमन्यदिच्छथ श्रोतुं तद् ब्रूयां वो न संशयः ॥ ५७॥
iti vazca samAkhyAtaM yatpRSTo'haM munIzvarAH ॥ kimanyadicchatha zrotuM tad brUyAM vo na saMzayaH ॥ 57॥
O great sages, thus what I have been asked has been narrated to you all. What else do you wish to hear? I shall explain it to you. No doubt need be entertained in this respect.
