॥ subrahmaNya uvAca ॥ atha madhyAhnasamaye snAtvA niyatamAnasaH ॥ gandhapuSpAkSatAdIni pUjAdravyANyupAhareta॥ 1 ॥
Subrahmaṇya said:— Then at midday he shall take bath. With the mind fully controlled he shall gather materials for worship such as fragrant flowers, Akṣatas etc.

नैर्ऋत्ये पूजयेद्देवं विघ्रेशं देवपूजितम्॥ गणानां त्वेति मन्त्रेणावाहयेत्सुविधानतः ॥ २॥
nairRtye pUjayeddevaM vighrezaM devapUjitam॥ gaNAnAM tveti mantreNAvAhayetsuvidhAnataH ॥ 2॥
With the mantra, “Gaṇānām tvā” he shall as enjoined invoke lord Gaṇapati worshipped by the gods. He shall worship hīm in the south-west.

रक्तवर्णं महाकायं सर्व्वाभरणभूषितम्॥ पाशांकुशाक्षाभीष्टञ्च दधानं करपंकजैः ॥ ३ ॥
raktavarNaM mahAkAyaM sarvvAbharaNabhUSitam॥ pAzAMkuzAkSAbhISTaJca dadhAnaM karapaMkajaiH ॥ 3 ॥
He was red in complexion and had a huge body and was adorned with all kinds of ornaments He held in his palms a rope goad and axes desired.

evamAvAhya sandhyAya zaMbhuputraM gajAnanam॥ abhyarcya pAyasApUpanAlikeraguDAdibhiH ॥ 4॥
Thus invoking Gajanana the son of Sambhu in the evening After worshiping the Lord with payasam, bread, coconut milk, jaggery and other offerings.

नैवेद्यमुत्तमं दद्यात्ताम्बूलादिमथापरम्॥ परितोष्य नमस्कृत्य निर्विघ्नम्प्रार्थयेत्ततः ॥ ५ ॥
naivedyamuttamaM dadyAttAmbUlAdimathAparam॥ paritoSya namaskRtya nirvighnamprArthayettataH ॥ 5 ॥
Then he should offer the best offerings such as beans. After satisfying himself he should offer obeisances and pray without hindrance.

औपासनाग्नौ कर्त्तव्यं स्वगृह्योक्तविधानतः ॥ आज्यभागान्तमाग्नेयं मखतन्त्रमतः परम् ॥ ६ ॥
aupAsanAgnau karttavyaM svagRhyoktavidhAnataH ॥ AjyabhAgAntamAgneyaM makhatantramataH param ॥ 6 ॥
Thereafter the rites of sacrifice concluding with the sharing of clarified butter shall be performed in the Aupāsana fire according to the rules of one’s Gṛhyasūtra.

bhUH svAheti tryRcA pUrNAhutiM hutvA samApya ca॥ gAyatrIM prajapedyAvadaparAhNamataMdritaH ॥ 7॥
After offering the Pūrṇāhūti with the three Ṛks “Bhūḥ Svāhā and concluding the rites he shall repeat Gāyatrī assiduously till late in the afternoon.

अथ सायन्तनीं सन्ध्यामुपास्य स्नानपूर्वकम् ॥ सायमौपासनं हुत्वा मौनी विज्ञापयेद्गुरुम् ॥ ८ ॥
atha sAyantanIM sandhyAmupAsya snAnapUrvakam ॥ sAyamaupAsanaM hutvA maunI vijJApayedgurum ॥ 8 ॥
He shall perform the evening prayers after bath and the sacrificial rites and inform his preceptor accordingly.

श्रपयित्वा चरुन्तस्मिन्समिदन्नाज्यभेदतः ॥ जुहुयाद्रौद्रसूक्तेन सद्योजातादि पञ्चभिः ॥ ९ ॥
zrapayitvA caruntasminsamidannAjyabhedataH ॥ juhuyAdraudrasUktena sadyojAtAdi paJcabhiH ॥ 9 ॥
They cooked the food in the sacrificial fire and divided it into oil. One should offer oblations with the five Vedas, beginning with the Draudra Sukta.

ब्रह्मभिश्च महादेवं सांबं वह्नौ विभावयेत् ॥ गौरीर्मिमाय मन्त्रेण हुत्वा गौरीमनुस्मरन् ॥ १०॥
brahmabhizca mahAdevaM sAMbaM vahnau vibhAvayet ॥ gaurIrmimAya mantreNa hutvA gaurImanusmaran ॥ 10॥
One should also meditate on Lord Mahadeva and Sāmba in the fire with the Brahmans. Gauri offered oblations to Mima with the mantra and remembered Gauri.

ततोऽग्नये स्विष्टकृते स्वाहेति जुहुयात्सकृत्॥ हुत्वोपरिष्टात्तन्त्रन्तु ततोऽग्नेरुत्तरे बुधः ॥ ११॥
tato'gnaye sviSTakRte svAheti juhuyAtsakRt॥ hutvopariSTAttantrantu tato'gneruttare budhaH ॥ 11॥
Then one should offer oblations of Svaha to the fire for the sacrifice. After offering oblations the tantra should be placed on the north side of the fire.

स्थित्वासने जपेन्मौनी चैलाजिनकुशोत्तरे ॥ आब्राह्मं च मुहूर्ते तु गायत्री दृढमानसः ॥ १२ ॥
sthitvAsane japenmaunI cailAjinakuzottare ॥ AbrAhmaM ca muhUrte tu gAyatrI dRDhamAnasaH ॥ 12 ॥
Standing silently on a seat on a cloth, deerskin and kusha grass one should chant the mantra. At the moment of Brahma he chanted the Gayatri mantra with a firm mind.

ततः स्नात्वा त्वशक्तश्चेद्भस्मना वा विधानतः ॥ श्रपयित्वा चरुं तस्मिन्नग्नावे वाभिधारितम् ॥ १३ ॥
tataH snAtvA tvazaktazcedbhasmanA vA vidhAnataH ॥ zrapayitvA caruM tasminnagnAve vAbhidhAritam ॥ 13 ॥
Then if he is unable he should take a bath or burn himself with ashes according to the prescribed ritual After cooking the char in that fire or in the fire.

उदगुद्वास्य बर्हिष्यासाद्याज्येन चरुं ततः ॥ अभिघार्य्य व्याहृतीश्च रौद्रसूक्तञ्च पञ्च च ॥ १४ ॥
udagudvAsya barhiSyAsAdyAjyena caruM tataH ॥ abhighAryya vyAhRtIzca raudrasUktaJca paJca ca ॥ 14 ॥
Then he rose up and offered the sacrificial fire with ghee Abhigharya and Vyahritis and the five Raudra Suktas.

जपेद्ब्रह्माणि सन्धार्य्य चित्तं शिवपदांबुजे ॥ प्रजापतिमथेन्द्रञ्च विश्वेदेवास्ततः परम् ॥ १५ ॥
japedbrahmANi sandhAryya cittaM zivapadAMbuje ॥ prajApatimathendraJca vizvedevAstataH param ॥ 15 ॥
One should chant the Brahmans with one’s mind fixed on the lotus feet of Lord Śiva. Prajapati and Indra followed by the Visvedevas.

ब्रह्माणं सचतुर्थ्यन्तं स्वाहांतान्प्रणवा दिकान् ॥ संजप्य वाचयित्वाऽथ पुण्याहं च ततः परम् ॥ १६ ॥
brahmANaM sacaturthyantaM svAhAMtAnpraNavA dikAn ॥ saMjapya vAcayitvA'tha puNyAhaM ca tataH param ॥ 16 ॥
Brahma with the fourth end of the Svaha ends with the oṁkāra and the directions. After chanting the mantra and reciting the holy mantra thereafter.

परस्तात्तंत्रमग्नये स्वाहेत्यग्निमुखावधि ॥ निर्वर्त्य पश्चात्प्राणाय स्वाहेत्यारभ्य पञ्चभिः ॥ १७॥
parastAttaMtramagnaye svAhetyagnimukhAvadhi ॥ nirvartya pazcAtprANAya svAhetyArabhya paJcabhiH ॥ 17॥
Beyond that, chant the tantra, 'Svaha to the fire,' up to the mouth of the fire. After completing the ritual, one should chant the mantra Svāha for the life force with five mantras.

sAjyena caruNA pazcAdagniM sviSTakRtaM hunet ॥ punazca prajapetsUktaM raudraM brahmANi paJca ca ॥ 18॥
Afterwards one should offer the sacrificial fire with the sacrificial offerings Again one should chant the Raudra Sukta and the five Brahmans.

महेशादिचतुर्व्यूहमन्त्रांश्च प्रजपेत्पुनः ॥ हुत्वोपरिष्टात्तन्त्रन्तु स्वशाखोक्तेन वर्त्मना ॥ १९॥
mahezAdicaturvyUhamantrAMzca prajapetpunaH ॥ hutvopariSTAttantrantu svazAkhoktena vartmanA ॥ 19॥
Again one should chant the mantras of the four clusters, beginning with Mahesh. After offering oblations the tantra should be performed in the manner prescribed by its branches.

तत्तद्देवान्समुद्दिश्य सांगं कुर्य्याद्विचक्षणः॥ एवमग्निमुखाद्यं यत्कर्मतन्त्रम्प्रवर्त्तितम् ॥ २०॥
tattaddevAnsamuddizya sAMgaM kuryyAdvicakSaNaH॥ evamagnimukhAdyaM yatkarmatantrampravarttitam ॥ 20॥
A wise man should chant the Sangam in the name of the respective devas. Thus the system of rituals beginning with the mouth of fire was introduced.

अतः परं प्रजुहुयाद्विरजाहोममात्मनः ॥ षड्विंशतत्त्वरूपेस्मिन्देहे लीनस्य शुद्धये ॥ २१॥
ataH paraM prajuhuyAdvirajAhomamAtmanaH ॥ SaDviMzatattvarUpesmindehe lInasya zuddhaye ॥ 21॥
After this one should offer the Viraja Homa for himself. For the purification of one who is absorbed in this body in the form of the twenty-six elements.

तत्त्वान्येतानि मद्देहे शुध्यन्तामित्यनुस्मरन् ॥ तत्रात्मतत्त्वशुद्ध्यर्थं मन्त्रैरारुणकेतुकैः ॥ २२॥
tattvAnyetAni maddehe zudhyantAmityanusmaran ॥ tatrAtmatattvazuddhyarthaM mantrairAruNaketukaiH ॥ 22॥
Remembering that these elements may be purified in My body. There, for the purification of the self-realization, chant mantras with red flags.

paThyamAnaiH pRthivyAdipuruSAMtaM kramAnmune ॥ sAjyena caruNA maunI zivapAdAmbujaM smaran ॥ 23॥
O sage the end of the earth and the other persons is recited in order Remembering the lotus feet of Lord Śiva in silence with sacrificial offerings.

पृथिव्यादि च शब्दादि वागाद्यं पञ्चकं पुनः ॥ श्रोत्राद्यञ्च शिरः पार्श्वपृष्ठोदरचतुष्टयम् ॥ २४॥
pRthivyAdi ca zabdAdi vAgAdyaM paJcakaM punaH ॥ zrotrAdyaJca ziraH pArzvapRSThodaracatuSTayam ॥ 24॥
The five elements, earth, sound, speech and others, are again the same. The head, beginning with the ears, the sides, the back and the four abdomen.

jaMghAM ca yojayetpazcAttvagAdyaM dhAtusaptakam ॥ prANAdyaM paJcakaM pazcAdannAdyaM kozapaJcakam॥ 25 ॥
The seven elements beginning with the skin should be applied to the thighs afterwards. The five beginning with life, and the five beginning with food, and the five beginning with kosha.

manAzcittaM ca buddhizcAhaMkRtiH khyAtireva ca ॥ saMkalpantu guNAH pazcAtprakRtiH puruSastataH ॥ 26॥
The mind, the consciousness, the intellect, the ego, the creation and the fame. Let the resolution be the modes afterwards and then the nature and then the person.

puruSasya tu bhoktRtvaM pratipannasya bhojane ॥ antaraMgatayA tattvapaMcakaM parikIrtitam ॥ 27 ॥
But in the food of the man who has attained the state of being the enjoyer. The five elements have been described in their innermost being.

niyatiH kAlarAgazca vidyA ca tadanantaram ॥ kalA ca paMcakamidaM mayotpannammunIzvara ॥ 28॥
O great sage, destiny, time, attachment, Vidyā, Kāla—this set of five is born of Māyā.

mAyAntu prakRtiM vidyAditi mAyA zrutIritA ॥ tajjAnyetAni tattvAni zrutyuktAni na saMzayaH ॥ 29 ॥
The Vedas declare: “Māyā is identical with Prakṛti.” The principles as mentioned in the Śruti are born of that.

कालस्वभावो नियतिरिति च श्रुतितब्रवीत् ॥ एतत्पञ्चकमेवास्य पञ्चकञ्चक्रमुच्यते ॥ ३० ॥
kAlasvabhAvo niyatiriti ca zrutitabravIt ॥ etatpaJcakamevAsya paJcakaJcakramucyate ॥ 30 ॥
The Vedas declare “Destiny is the nature of Kāla.” This set of five is also called “The wheel of five.”

अजानन्पञ्चतत्त्वानि विद्वानपि च। मूढधीः ॥ निपत्याधस्तात्प्रकृतेरुपरिष्टात्पुमानयम् ॥ ३१ ॥
ajAnanpaJcatattvAni vidvAnapi ca। mUDhadhIH ॥ nipatyAdhastAtprakRterupariSTAtpumAnayam ॥ 31 ॥
Even a learned person who does not know the five elements. foolish mind. This man fell from the bottom to the top of nature.

काकाक्षिन्यायमाश्रित्य वर्त्तते पार्श्वतोन्वहम् ॥ विद्यातत्त्वमिदं प्रोक्तं शुद्धविद्यामहेश्वरौ ॥ ३२ ॥
kAkAkSinyAyamAzritya varttate pArzvatonvaham ॥ vidyAtattvamidaM proktaM zuddhavidyAmahezvarau ॥ 32 ॥
He lives by his side every day relying on the law of the crow's eyes This essence of knowledge has been described by the two great Lords of pure knowledge.

सदाशिवश्च शक्तिश्च शिवश्चेदं तु पञ्चकम् ॥ शिव तत्त्वमिदम्ब्रह्मन्प्रज्ञानब्रह्मवाग्यतः ॥ ३३ ॥
sadAzivazca zaktizca zivazcedaM tu paJcakam ॥ ziva tattvamidambrahmanprajJAnabrahmavAgyataH ॥ 33 ॥
Sadashiva, Shakti and Shiva are the five elements. This is the essence of Lord Shiva, O Brahman, from wisdom and from the words of the Brahman.

पृथिव्यादिशिवांतं यत्तत्त्वजातं मुनीश्वर ॥ स्वकारणलयद्वारा शुद्धिरस्य विधीयताम् ॥ ३४ ॥
pRthivyAdizivAMtaM yattattvajAtaM munIzvara ॥ svakAraNalayadvArA zuddhirasya vidhIyatAm ॥ 34 ॥
O Sage, the purity of the principles from Pṛthivī to Śiva is effected through the dissolution of its cause.

एकादशानां मन्त्राणाम्परस्मैपद पूर्वकम् ॥ शिवज्योतिश्चतुर्थ्यन्तमिदम्पदमथोच्चरेत् ॥ ३५ ॥
ekAdazAnAM mantrANAmparasmaipada pUrvakam ॥ zivajyotizcaturthyantamidampadamathoccaret ॥ 35 ॥
With the eleven mantras he shall mention the god. The word Śivajyolis shall be used in the dative case.

न ममेति वदेत्पश्चादुद्देशत्याग ईरितः ॥ अतः परं विविद्यैति कपोतकायेति मन्त्रयोः ॥ ३६ ॥
na mameti vadetpazcAduddezatyAga IritaH ॥ ataH paraM vividyaiti kapotakAyeti mantrayoH ॥ 36 ॥
He should say, "It is not mine," and then renounce the purpose. Beyond this, Vividya is in the two mantras for the pigeon.

vyApakAya padasyAnte paramAtmana ityapi ॥ zivajyotizcaturthyantaM vizvabhUtapadampunaH ॥ 37॥
At the end of the term for the pervasive, it is also called the Supreme Soul. Shivajyoti is the fourth end of the Visvabhutapada.

घसनोत्सुकशब्दञ्च चतुर्थ्यंतमथो वदेत् ॥ परस्मैपदमुच्चार्य्य देवाय पदमुच्चरेत्॥ ३८ ॥
ghasanotsukazabdaJca caturthyaMtamatho vadet ॥ parasmaipadamuccAryya devAya padamuccaret॥ 38 ॥
Then he should say the fourth end of the sound of rubbing and eagerness. One should utter the words to the other person and the words to the god.

उत्तिष्ठस्वेति मन्त्रस्य विश्वरूपाय शब्दतः ॥ पुरुषाय पदम्ब्रूयादोस्वाहेत्यस्य संवदेत् ॥ ३९ ॥
uttiSThasveti mantrasya vizvarUpAya zabdataH ॥ puruSAya padambrUyAdosvAhetyasya saMvadet ॥ 39 ॥
After “Viśvarūpāya” in the mantra “Uttiṣṭhasva"’ the word “Puruṣāya” shall be uttered and the words “Om Svāhā” shall be added.

Standing up again he shall approach the feet of the preceptor with palms joined in reverence, glancing at his preceptor with love.

They were in the midst of the fire at the beginning of the sacrifice by the rays of the sun After the sacrifice is completed one should place the ashes and keep them hidden.

The disciple shall make obeisance to the preceptor by prostrating twelve times. He shall remain subservient to him always. He shall not do anything else.

Thus shall the disciple devoted to Śiva take vow in the presence of the preceptor which he shall repeat thrice with a steady mind.

Thus the disciple shall worship Lord Śiva every day with devoted and diligent mind, following the path of five Āvaraṇas.
