Izvara uvAca ॥ atrAsti ca mahAdevi khalvAvaraNapaMcakam ॥ paMcAvaraNapUjAntu prArabheta yathAkramam ॥ 1॥
Lord Śiva said:— O goddess, there are five Āvaraṇas here. The five Āvaraṇa-worships shall be performed thus.

Where they had been previously worshipped, the lords Gaṇeśa and Kārttikeya shall be worshipped in order,

paMca brahmANi parito vRtte sampUjayetkramAt ॥ IzAnadeze pUrve ca dakSiNe cottare tathA ॥ 3 ॥
One should worship the five Brahmans in a circle around them in order. In the northeast, east, south and north.

pazcime ca tatastasminSaDaMgAni samarcayeta ॥ Agneye ca tathaizAne nairRte vAyudezake ॥ 4 ॥
Then one should worship the six limbs in the west. In the south-east and in the north-east and in the southwest in the region of the wind.

In the middle, like the end of the eye, the weapon is placed around the east and the west, in order. Listen to the second covering mentioned in the first covering.

anantampUrvadikpatre sUkSmandakSiNatastathA ॥ zivottamaM pazcimata ekanetrantathottare ॥ 6 ॥
Infinite in the east leaf and subtle in the south. Shiva Uttama is on the west and Ekanetra is on the north.

ekarudrantathaizAne trimUrtiM vahnidigdale ॥ zrIkaNThaM nairRte vAyau zikhaNDIzaM samarcayet ॥ 7 ॥
Ekarudra in the north-east and Trimurti in the fire-direction leaf. One should worship Lord Shikhandi in the southwest wind with Śrīkantha.

द्वितीयावरणे चैव पूज्यास्ते चक्रवर्तिनः ॥ पूर्वद्वारस्य मध्ये तु वृषेशानम्प्रपूजयेत् ॥ ८ ॥
dvitIyAvaraNe caiva pUjyAste cakravartinaH ॥ pUrvadvArasya madhye tu vRSezAnamprapUjayet ॥ 8 ॥
They are also worshiped in the second covering of the wheels. In the middle of the east gate one should worship the lord of the bull.

तद्दक्षिणे नन्दिनञ्च महाकालन्तदुत्तरे ॥ भृंगीशन्दक्षिणद्वारपश्चिमे सम्प्रपूजयेत् ॥ ९॥
taddakSiNe nandinaJca mahAkAlantaduttare ॥ bhRMgIzandakSiNadvArapazcime samprapUjayet ॥ 9॥
Nandi is on the south of it and Mahakala is on the north. One should worship Bhringisha on the west side of the southern gate.

तत्पूर्वकोष्ठे गन्धाद्यैस्सम्प्रपूज्य विनायकम् ॥ पश्चिमोत्तरकोष्ठे च वृषभन्दक्षिणे गुहम् ॥ १० ॥
tatpUrvakoSThe gandhAdyaissamprapUjya vinAyakam ॥ pazcimottarakoSThe ca vRSabhandakSiNe guham ॥ 10 ॥
In the cell in front of that, worship Vinayaka with fragrant oils and other offerings. In the northwest cell there is a cave on the south side of Vrishabha.

उत्तरद्वारपूर्वे तु प्रदक्षिणविधानतः ॥ नामाष्टकविधानेन पूजयेदुच्यते हि तत् ॥ ११ ॥
uttaradvArapUrve tu pradakSiNavidhAnataH ॥ nAmASTakavidhAnena pUjayeducyate hi tat ॥ 11 ॥
In the east of the north gate, in the manner of circumambulation. It is said that one should worship him in the manner of eight names.

bhavaM zarvaM tathezAnaM rudrampazupatimpunaH ॥ ugrambhImammahAdevantRtIyAvaraNantvidam ॥ 12 ॥
Bhava, Sharva, Lord Rudra and the lord of the animals. This is the third covering of the fierce and great gods.

yo vedAdau svara iti samAvAhya mahezvaram ॥ pUjayetpUrvadigbhAge kamale karNikopari ॥ 13 ॥
He who invokes Lord Maheshwara as the voice in the beginning of the Vedas One should worship the lotus on the earlobe in the eastern part.

IzvarampUrvadikpatre vizvezandakSiNe tataH ॥ saumye tu paramezAnaM sarvezampa zcime yajet ॥ 14 ॥
He shall worship Lord Śiva in the eastern, Viśveśa in the southern, Parameśāna in the northern and Sarveśa in the western petal.

दक्षिणे तु यजेद्रुद्रमावोराजानमित्यृचा ॥ आवाह्य गन्धपुष्पाद्यैः कर्णिकायान्दलेषु च ॥ १५ ॥
dakSiNe tu yajedrudramAvorAjAnamityRcA ॥ AvAhya gandhapuSpAdyaiH karNikAyAndaleSu ca ॥ 15 ॥
He shall worship Rudra in the south after invoking him with Ṛk “Ā vo rājānam” in the petals and the pericarp with scents, flowers etc.

शिवः पूर्वे दक्षिणतो हर उत्तरतो मृडः ॥ भवः पश्चिमदिक्पत्रे पूज्या एते यथाक्रमम् ॥ १६ ॥
zivaH pUrve dakSiNato hara uttarato mRDaH ॥ bhavaH pazcimadikpatre pUjyA ete yathAkramam ॥ 16 ॥
Śiva shall be worshipped in the east; Hara in the south; Mṛda in the north and Bhava in the petal in the western quarter. They shall be worshipped in this order.

उत्तरे विष्णुमावाह्य गन्धपुष्पादिभिर्यजेत् ॥ प्रतद्विष्णुरिति प्रोच्य कर्णिकायान्दलेषु च ॥ १७॥
uttare viSNumAvAhya gandhapuSpAdibhiryajet ॥ pratadviSNuriti procya karNikAyAndaleSu ca ॥ 17॥
After invoking Viṣṇu by uttering the mantra “Pra tad Viṣṇu” etc. he shall worship him in the north on the pericarp and the petals with scents, flowers etc.

वासुदेवम्पूर्वभागे दक्षिणे चानिरुद्धकम् ॥ सौम्ये संकर्षणञ्चैव प्रद्युम्नम्पश्चिमे यजेत् ॥ १८ ॥
vAsudevampUrvabhAge dakSiNe cAniruddhakam ॥ saumye saMkarSaNaJcaiva pradyumnampazcime yajet ॥ 18 ॥
He shall worship Vāsudeva in the east; Aniruddha in the south; Saṃkarṣaṇa in the north and Pradyumna in the west.

ब्रह्माणम्पश्चिमे पद्मे समावाह्य समर्चयेत् ॥ हिरण्यगर्भः समवर्तत इति मंत्रेण मंत्रवित् ॥ १९ ॥
brahmANampazcime padme samAvAhya samarcayet ॥ hiraNyagarbhaH samavartata iti maMtreNa maMtravit ॥ 19 ॥
The knower of Mantras shall invoke Brahma with the mantra “Hiraṇyagarbhaḥ Samavartata” etc. and worship him in the lotus to the west.

हिरण्यगर्भं पूर्वस्यां विराजन्दक्षिणे ततः ॥ उत्तरे पुष्करञ्चैव कालम्पश्चिमतो यजेत् ॥ २० ॥
hiraNyagarbhaM pUrvasyAM virAjandakSiNe tataH ॥ uttare puSkaraJcaiva kAlampazcimato yajet ॥ 20 ॥
He shall worship Hiraṇyagarbha in the cast; Virāja in the south; Puṣkara in the north and Kāla in the west.

सर्वोर्द्ध्वपंक्तौ पूर्वादिप्रदक्षिणविधानतः॥ तत्तत्स्थानेषु संपूज्य लोकपालाननुक्रमात् ॥ २१ ॥
sarvorddhvapaMktau pUrvAdipradakSiNavidhAnataH॥ tattatsthAneSu saMpUjya lokapAlAnanukramAt ॥ 21 ॥
In the upper rows of all, in the manner of circumambulating the east and the west. Worship the guardians of the worlds in their respective places in order.

रान्तंपान्तं तथा ज्ञान्तं लान्तं लान्तमपूर्वकम् ॥ षान्तं सान्तञ्च वेदाद्यं श्रीबीजञ्च दशक्रमात् ॥ २२ ॥
rAntaMpAntaM tathA jJAntaM lAntaM lAntamapUrvakam ॥ SAntaM sAntaJca vedAdyaM zrIbIjaJca dazakramAt ॥ 22 ॥
Rantampantam and known lantama lantama preceding. The ṣānta, the sānta, the beginning of the Vedas and the seed of Śrī are mentioned in ten orders.

बीजानि लोकपालानामेतैरेतान्समर्चयेत् ॥ नैर्ऋते चोत्तरे तद्वदीशानस्य च दक्षिणे ॥ २३ ॥
bIjAni lokapAlAnAmetairetAnsamarcayet ॥ nairRte cottare tadvadIzAnasya ca dakSiNe ॥ 23 ॥
One should worship these with these seeds of the guardians of the worlds. The same is true of the southwest and north and south of the northeast.

ब्रह्म विष्णू च विधिना पूजयेदुपचारकैः ॥ बाह्यरेखासु देवेशम्पञ्चमावरणे यजेत् ॥ २४ ॥
brahma viSNU ca vidhinA pUjayedupacArakaiH ॥ bAhyarekhAsu devezampaJcamAvaraNe yajet ॥ 24 ॥
One should worship Brahma and Vishnu according to the prescribed rituals On the outer lines one should worship the Lord of the gods in the fifth covering.

श्रीमत्त्रिशूलमीशाने वज्रं माहेन्द्रदिङ्मुखे ॥ परशुं वह्निदिग्भागे याम्ये सायकमर्चयेत् ॥ २५ ॥
zrImattrizUlamIzAne vajraM mAhendradiGmukhe ॥ parazuM vahnidigbhAge yAmye sAyakamarcayet ॥ 25 ॥
The beautiful trident is in the north and the thunderbolt is in the south face of Gaindra. One should worship the ax and the arrow on the southern side of the fire.

नैर्ऋते तु यजेत्खड्गम्पाशं वरुणगोचरे ॥ अंकुशं मारुते भागे पिनाकं चोत्तरे यजेत् ॥ २६॥
nairRte tu yajetkhaDgampAzaM varuNagocare ॥ aMkuzaM mArute bhAge pinAkaM cottare yajet ॥ 26॥
In the southwest one should worship the sword and the rope in the presence of Varuna. One should worship Ankusha in the wind and Pinaka in the north.

पश्चिमाभिमुखं रौद्रं क्षेत्रपालं समर्चयेत् ॥ यथाविधि विधानज्ञश्शिवप्रीत्यर्थमेव च ॥ २७ ॥
pazcimAbhimukhaM raudraM kSetrapAlaM samarcayet ॥ yathAvidhi vidhAnajJazzivaprItyarthameva ca ॥ 27 ॥
For the satisfaction of Śiva, the knower of the rules shall worship Kṣetrapāla of Rudra facing the west, in accordance with the rules.

कृताञ्जलिपुटास्सर्वे चिन्त्याः स्मितमुखाम्बुजाः ॥ सादरं प्रेक्षमाणाश्च देवं देवीञ्च सर्वदा ॥ २८॥
kRtAJjalipuTAssarve cintyAH smitamukhAmbujAH ॥ sAdaraM prekSamANAzca devaM devIJca sarvadA ॥ 28॥
All these shall be thought of as standing with palms joined in reverence, their faces beaming with smile and glancing at the lord and the goddess with devotion always.

इत्थमावरणाभ्यर्चां कृत्वा विक्षेपशान्तये ॥ पुनरभ्यर्च्य देवेशम्प्रणवं च शिवं वदेत्॥ २९॥
itthamAvaraNAbhyarcAM kRtvA vikSepazAntaye ॥ punarabhyarcya devezampraNavaM ca zivaM vadet॥ 29॥
After performing the Āvaraṇa worship thus, the devotee shall worship the lord of the gods again for allaying his mental disturbance. He shall know Praṇava as Śiva.

एवमभ्यर्च्य विधिवद्गन्धाद्यैरुपचारकैः॥ उपचर्य्य ततो दद्यान्नैवेद्यं विधिसाधितम्॥ ३०॥
evamabhyarcya vidhivadgandhAdyairupacArakaiH॥ upacaryya tato dadyAnnaivedyaM vidhisAdhitam॥ 30॥
After worshipping duly thus with scents and other services he shall offer Naivedya prepared in the proper manner.

पुनराचमनीयं च दद्यादर्घ्यं यथा पुरा ॥ ततो निवेद्य पानीयन्ताम्बूलं चोपदेशतः ॥ ३१ ॥
punarAcamanIyaM ca dadyAdarghyaM yathA purA ॥ tato nivedya pAnIyantAmbUlaM copadezataH ॥ 31 ॥
He shall give water for Ācamana and the Arghya as before, and then offer Tāmbūla and water in accordance with the rules.

नीराजनादिकं कृत्वा पूजाशेषं समापयेत् ॥ ध्यात्वा देवं च देवीञ्च मनुमष्टोत्तरं जपेत् ॥ ३२॥
nIrAjanAdikaM kRtvA pUjAzeSaM samApayet ॥ dhyAtvA devaM ca devIJca manumaSTottaraM japet ॥ 32॥
After performing Nīrājana the balance of the worship shall be completed. After meditating on the lord and the goddess he shall repeat the mantra hundred and eight times.

तत उत्थाय रचितपुष्पाञ्जलिपुटः स्थितः॥ जपेद्ध्यात्वा महादेवं यो देवानामिति क्रमात् ॥ ३३ ॥
tata utthAya racitapuSpAJjalipuTaH sthitaH॥ japeddhyAtvA mahAdevaM yo devAnAmiti kramAt ॥ 33 ॥
Then he got up and stood with a wreath of flowers arranged in his palms He who meditates on Mahadeva should chant the mantra of the gods in this order.

यो वेदादौ स्वरः प्रोक्त इत्यंतम्परमेश्वरि ॥ पुष्पाञ्जलिन्ततो दत्त्वा त्रिः प्रदक्षिणमाचरेत् ॥ ३४ ॥
yo vedAdau svaraH prokta ityaMtamparamezvari ॥ puSpAJjalintato dattvA triH pradakSiNamAcaret ॥ 34 ॥
O Goddess of the Supreme, who is the voice mentioned in the beginning of the Vedas. Then offering flowers and palms together one should circumambulate the place three times.

साष्टांगम्प्रणमेत्तं स भक्त्या परमयान्वितः ॥ पुनः प्रदक्षिणां कृत्वा प्रणमेत्पुनरेकधा ॥ ३५ ॥
sASTAMgampraNamettaM sa bhaktyA paramayAnvitaH ॥ punaH pradakSiNAM kRtvA praNametpunarekadhA ॥ 35 ॥
He shall prostrate with eight parts of the body touching the ground. Endowed with great devotion he shall perform circumambulation again, make obeisance once more.

स्थित्वासने समभ्यर्च्य देवं नामाष्टकेन च ॥ साधु वासाधु वा कर्म यद्यदाचरितं मया ॥ ३६॥
sthitvAsane samabhyarcya devaM nAmASTakena ca ॥ sAdhu vAsAdhu vA karma yadyadAcaritaM mayA ॥ 36॥
Standing on a seat he worshiped the god with the eight names Whatever action I have performed whether it is good or bad.

तत्सर्वं भगवञ्छम्भो भवदाराधनम्परम् ॥ इति शंखोदकेनैव सपुष्पेण समर्पयेत् ॥ ३७ ॥
tatsarvaM bhagavaJchambho bhavadArAdhanamparam ॥ iti zaMkhodakenaiva sapuSpeNa samarpayet ॥ 37 ॥
All that, O Lord Shambha, is after worshiping You. This should be offered with conch water and flowers.

पूज्यं पुनस्समभ्यर्च्य सार्थं नामाष्टकं जपेत् ॥ तदेव शृणु देवेशि संब्रुवे तव भक्तितः ॥ ३८ ॥
pUjyaM punassamabhyarcya sArthaM nAmASTakaM japet ॥ tadeva zRNu devezi saMbruve tava bhaktitaH ॥ 38 ॥
After worshiping the worshiper again one should chant the eight names of the saint O goddess please hear what I have spoken to you with devotion.
