Izvara uvAca ॥ ataH paraM pravakSyAmi saMnyAsAhnikakarma ca ॥ tava snehAnmahAdevi saMpradAyAnurodhataH ॥ 1॥
Lord Śiva said:— O goddess, after this I shall mention the daily routine during the Sannyāsa according to the convention. It is out of my affection for you that I am narrating the same.

brAhme muhUrtta utthAya zirasi zvetapaMkaje ॥ sahasrAre samAsInaM guruM saMcitayedyatiH ॥ 2 ॥
The ascetic shall get up in the Brāhma Muhūrta and think about the preceptor Śiva seated in the thousand-petalled lotus on the head.

zuddhasphaTikasaMkAzaM dvinetraM varadAbhaye ॥ dadhAnaM zivasadbhAvamevAtmani manoharam ॥ 3॥
The preceptor resembling pure crystal, with two eyes and holding the mystic gestures of boon and protection in the hand is conceived as Śiva of beautiful form in the soul.

भावोपनीतैः संपूज्य गन्धादिभिरनुक्रमात् ॥ बद्धांजलिपुटो भूत्वा नमस्कुर्याद्गुरुं ततः ॥ ४॥
bhAvopanItaiH saMpUjya gandhAdibhiranukramAt ॥ baddhAMjalipuTo bhUtvA namaskuryAdguruM tataH ॥ 4॥
He shall bow to the preceptor with palms joined in reverence and worship him with scents, fragrant flowers etc. created by his imagination.

prAtaHprabhRti sAyAnte sAyAdiprAtaraM tataH ॥ yatkaromi mahAdeva tadastu tava pUjanam ॥ 5॥
He shall pray thus—“O lord, let whatever I do from morning till sunset and from sunset till daybreak be your worship.”

prativijJApya gurave labdhAnujJastato guroH ॥ niruddhaprANa AsIno vijitAtmA jitendriyaH ॥ 6॥
After intimating to the preceptor thus and securing the permission he shall retain the breath and sit down, with his mind and the sense-organs under full control.

mUlAdibrahmaraMdhrAMtaM SaTcakraM pariciMtayet ॥ vidyutkoTisamaprakhyaM sarvatejomayaM param ॥ 7॥
One should meditate on the six chakras ending in the Brahma-hole, beginning with the root. It was supremely effulgent and resembled a crore of lightning bolts.

तन्मध्ये चिंतयेन्मां च सच्चिदानन्दविग्रहम् ॥ निर्गुणं परमं ब्रह्म सदाशिवमनामयम् ॥ ८ ॥
tanmadhye ciMtayenmAM ca saccidAnandavigraham ॥ nirguNaM paramaM brahma sadAzivamanAmayam ॥ 8 ॥
In the midst of that one should meditate on Me, the embodiment of truth and bliss. The transcendental Supreme Brahman is Sadashiva and is healthy.

सोहमस्मीति मतिमान्म दैक्यमनुभूय च ॥ बहिर्निर्गत्य च ततो दूरं गच्छेद्यथासुखम् ॥ ९ ॥
sohamasmIti matimAnma daikyamanubhUya ca ॥ bahirnirgatya ca tato dUraM gacchedyathAsukham ॥ 9 ॥
He shall realize identity with me in the form “I am he”. The intelligent ascetic then shall go out far according to convenience.

वस्त्रेणाच्छाद्य मतिमाञ्छिरो नासिकया सह॥ विशोध्य देहं वि धिवत्तृणमाधाय भूतले ॥ १०॥
vastreNAcchAdya matimAJchiro nAsikayA saha॥ vizodhya dehaM vi dhivattRNamAdhAya bhUtale ॥ 10॥
The intelligent devotee shall cover the head along with the nose with a piece of cloth. He shall spread some grass on the ground and evacuate his bowels there duly.

गृहीतशिश्न उत्थाय ततो गच्छेज्जलाशयम् ॥ उद्धृत्य वार्यथान्यायं शौचं कुर्यादतन्द्रितः ॥ ११ ॥
gRhItazizna utthAya tato gacchejjalAzayam ॥ uddhRtya vAryathAnyAyaM zaucaM kuryAdatandritaH ॥ 11 ॥
He shall stand up holding the penis and go to the water-pond. He shall take out water and use it for cleansing carefully.

हस्तौ पादौ च संशोध्य द्विराचम्योमिति स्मरन् ॥ उत्तराभिमुखो मौनी दन्तधावनमाचरेत्॥ १२॥
hastau pAdau ca saMzodhya dvirAcamyomiti smaran ॥ uttarAbhimukho maunI dantadhAvanamAcaret॥ 12॥
He repaired his hands and feet and remembered the Dvirachamya. One should brush his teeth in silence facing north.

तृणपर्णैः सदा कुर्यादमामेकादशी विना ॥ अपां द्वादशगण्डूषैर्मुखं संशोधयेत्ततः ॥ १३ ॥
tRNaparNaiH sadA kuryAdamAmekAdazI vinA ॥ apAM dvAdazagaNDUSairmukhaM saMzodhayettataH ॥ 13 ॥
One should always perform this ritual with grass and leaves except on Ekadashi Then cleanse the face with twelve drops of water.

द्विराचम्य मृदा तोयैः कटिशौचं विधाय च ॥ अरुणोदयकाले तु स्नानं कुर्यान्मृदा सह ॥ १४ ॥
dvirAcamya mRdA toyaiH kaTizaucaM vidhAya ca ॥ aruNodayakAle tu snAnaM kuryAnmRdA saha ॥ 14 ॥
After performing Ācamana twice he shall clean the hips with water and clay. At the time of dawn he shall take his bath using clay.

गुरुं संस्मृत्य मां चैव स्नानसंध्याद्यमाचरेत् ॥ विस्तारभयतो नोक्तमत्र द्रष्टव्यमन्यतः ॥ १५ ॥
guruM saMsmRtya mAM caiva snAnasaMdhyAdyamAcaret ॥ vistArabhayato noktamatra draSTavyamanyataH ॥ 15 ॥
The bath and the Sandhyā prayers shall be performed with thoughts on the preceptor and me. The procedure of bath is not detailed here for fear of prolixity. That shall be seen elsewhere.

आबध्य शंखमुद्रां च प्रणवेनाभिषेचयेत् ॥ शिरसि द्वादशावृत्त्या तदर्धं वा तदर्धकम् ॥ १६ ॥
Abadhya zaMkhamudrAM ca praNavenAbhiSecayet ॥ zirasi dvAdazAvRttyA tadardhaM vA tadardhakam ॥ 16 ॥
Joining the palms so as to from the Śaṅkhamudrā water shall be poured over the head repeating the Praṇava, twelve times, six times or three times.

तीरमागत्य कौपीनं प्रक्षाल्याचम्य च द्विधा ॥ प्रोक्षयेत्प्रणवेनैव वस्त्रमंगोपमार्जनम् ॥ १७ ॥
tIramAgatya kaupInaM prakSAlyAcamya ca dvidhA ॥ prokSayetpraNavenaiva vastramaMgopamArjanam ॥ 17 ॥
He shall go to the bank and wash the loin-cloth. He shall perform the Ācamana twice. Repeating the Praṇava he shall sprinkle water over the towel and wipe off the body.

मुखम्प्रथमतो मृज्य शिर आरभ्य सर्वतः ॥ तेनैव मार्जयेद्देहं स्थित्वा च गुरुसन्निधौ ॥ १८ ॥
mukhamprathamato mRjya zira Arabhya sarvataH ॥ tenaiva mArjayeddehaM sthitvA ca gurusannidhau ॥ 18 ॥
He shall wipe off his face first and then the head and other parts of the body standing by the side of the preceptor.

आबध्याद्वामतः शुद्धं कौपीनं च सडोरकम् ॥ ततः संधारयेद्भस्म तद्विधिः प्रोच्यतेऽद्रिजे ॥ १९॥
AbadhyAdvAmataH zuddhaM kaupInaM ca saDorakam ॥ tataH saMdhArayedbhasma tadvidhiH procyate'drije ॥ 19॥
A pure loin-cloth shall be tied with its string with the knot on the left side. Then he shall smear his body with the ashes. O daughter of the mountain, now I tell you the procedure thereof.

द्विराचम्य समादाय भस्म सद्यादिमंत्रतः ॥ अग्निरित्यादिभिर्मंत्रैरभिमंत्र्य स्पृशेत्तनुम् ॥ २०॥
dvirAcamya samAdAya bhasma sadyAdimaMtrataH ॥ agnirityAdibhirmaMtrairabhimaMtrya spRzettanum ॥ 20॥
After performing the Ācamana twice he shall take the ashes repeating the Sadyādi mantra. Then repeating the mantras “Agniriti” he shall touch the body.

आपोवेत्यभिमंत्र्याथ जलं तेनैव सेचयेत् ॥ ओमापोज्योतिरित्युक्त्वा मानस्तोकेति मंत्रतः॥ २१॥
ApovetyabhimaMtryAtha jalaM tenaiva secayet ॥ omApojyotirityuktvA mAnastoketi maMtrataH॥ 21॥
Then one should chant the mantra 'Apove' and sprinkle the water with it. Saying Oma Apojyoti, chant the mantra Manastoke.

समद्य कमलद्वन्द्वं कुर्या केकं तु पंचधा॥ शिरोवदनहृद्गुह्यपादेषु परमेश्वरि॥ २२॥
samadya kamaladvandvaM kuryA kekaM tu paMcadhA॥ zirovadanahRdguhyapAdeSu paramezvari॥ 22॥
Today, make a pair of lotuses and cut the cake into five pieces. O Goddess in the head, face, heart, secret feet.

ईशानादिसमारभ्य सद्यान्तं पंचभिः क्रमात्॥ उद्धूल्य कवलं पश्चात्प्रणवेनाभिषेचयेत्॥ २३ ॥
IzAnAdisamArabhya sadyAntaM paMcabhiH kramAt॥ uddhUlya kavalaM pazcAtpraNavenAbhiSecayet॥ 23 ॥
Beginning with the north-east and ending with the present in five orders. Lifting the kavala one should then consecrate it with the oṁkāra.

सर्वांगं च ततो हस्तौ प्रक्षाल्यान्यत्समाहरेत् समर्च्य पूर्वत्तत्तु त्रिपुण्ड्रांस्तेन धारयेत्॥ २४॥
sarvAMgaM ca tato hastau prakSAlyAnyatsamAharet samarcya pUrvattattu tripuNDrAMstena dhArayet॥ 24॥
Then one should wash his whole body with his hands and collect the rest After worshiping the former one should hold the tripundras with it.

Triyayushas and Trimbakas and the oṁkāra and Siva. On the head, forehead, chest and shoulders.

nAbhau bAhvauH saMdhiSu ca pRSTha caiva yathAkramam ॥ prakSAlya hastau ca tato dvirAcamya yathAvidhi ॥ 26॥
Uttering Pañcīkaraṇa mantra, the scholarly ascetic shall think of his preceptor. In the manner as explained hereafter he shall perform six Prāṇāyāmas.

The wise man should chant the mantra Panchikarana and meditate on his spiritual master. One should perform six pranayama in the manner described.

Holding the water with his right hand and his left hand Cover the body and chant the oṁkāra twenty-six times.

evaM trivAraM saMprokSya zirasi triH pibettataH ॥ samAhitena manasA dhyAyannoMkAramIzvaram॥ 29 ॥
Thus sprinkle three times on the head and then drink three times. Meditating on the Lord with a concentrated mind.

sauramaNDalamadhyasthaM sarvatejomayaM param ॥ aSTabAhuM caturvaktramarddhanArIkamadbhutam ॥ 30॥
It is situated in the middle of the solar system and is supremely effulgent He had eight arms and four faces and was half a woman and wonderful.

सर्वाश्चर्य्यगुणोपेतं सर्वालंकारशोभितम् ॥ एवं ध्यात्वाथ विधिवद्दद्यादर्घ्यत्रयं ततः ॥ ३१ ॥
sarvAzcaryyaguNopetaM sarvAlaMkArazobhitam ॥ evaM dhyAtvAtha vidhivaddadyAdarghyatrayaM tataH ॥ 31 ॥
Endowed with all wonderful qualities and adorned with all ornaments After meditating in this way one should offer three arghyas in accordance with the prescribed rituals.

aSTottarazataM japtvA dviSaDvAraM tu tarpayet ॥ punarAcamya vidhivatprANAyAmatrayaM caret ॥ 32 ॥
After performing the Japa of Gāyatrī hundred and eight times, he shall offer Tarpaṇa twelve times. After performing the Ācamana he shall perform Prāṇāyāma thrice.

pUjAsadanamAgacchenmanasA saMsmaraJcchivam॥ dvAramAsAdya prakSAlya pAdau maunI dvirAcamet॥ 33॥
Then he shall go to the hall of worship thinking on Śiva. After reaching the door he shall wash his feet silently and perform Ācamana twice.

pravizedvidhinA tatra dakSapAdapurassa ram॥ maNDapAntassudhIstatra maNDalaM racayetkramAt ॥ 34 ॥
He shall enter it duly placing the right foot at first. Inside the Maṇḍapa there, he, the intelligent ascetic, shall draw the mystic diagram in due order.
