गते महेश्वरे देवे तमुद्दिश्य जनार्दनः। प्रणम्य भगवान्प्राह पद्मयोनिमजोद्भवः।।
gate maheśvare deve tamuddiśya janārdanaḥ| praṇamya bhagavānprāha padmayonimajodbhavaḥ||
Śailādi said: When lord Siva had gone, lord Viṣṇu, the origin of Brahmā, bowed down in that direction and said to the lotus-born deity.

परमेशो जगन्नाथः शङ्करस्त्वेष सर्वगः। आवयोरखिलस्येशः शरणं च महेश्वरः।।
parameśo jagannāthaḥ śaṅkarastveṣa sarvagaḥ| āvayorakhilasyeśaḥ śaraṇaṃ ca maheśvaraḥ||
Śrī Viṣṇu said: The supreme god Śiva, the lord of the universe, is omnipresent. He is the lord and refuge of us both as well as of the entire universe.

अहं वामाङ्गजो ब्रह्मन शङ्करस्य महात्मनः। भवान भवस्य देवस्य दक्षिणाङ्गभवः स्वयम।।
ahaṃ vāmāṅgajo brahman śaṅkarasya mahātmanaḥ| bhavān bhavasya devasya dakṣiṇāṅgabhavaḥ svayam||
Śrī Viṣṇu said: O Brahmā, I am born of the left side of Siva the supreme soul. You are born of his right side.

मामाहुर ऋषयः प्रेक्ष्य प्रधानं प्रकृतिं तथा। अव्यक्तमजमित्येवं भवन्तं पुरुषस्त्विति।।
māmāhur ṛṣayaḥ prekṣya pradhānaṃ prakṛtiṃ tathā| avyaktamajamityevaṃ bhavantaṃ puruṣastviti||
Śrī Viṣṇu said: The sages observe me and say that I am Pradhāna, the Prakṛti, the Avyakta (unmanifest) and the Aja (unborn). They call you Puruṣa.

एवमाहुर्महादेवम आवयोरपि कारणम। ईशं सर्वस्य जगतः प्रभुमव्ययमीश्वरम।।
evamāhurmahādevam āvayorapi kāraṇam| īśaṃ sarvasya jagataḥ prabhumavyayamīśvaram||
Śrī Viṣṇu said: They call the supreme lord the cause of us both, as lord of the universe. He is the unchanging lord Īśvara.

सो ऽपि तस्यामरेशस्य वचनाद्वारिजोद्भवः। वरेण्यं वरदं रुद्रम अस्तुवत्प्रणनाम च।।
so 'pi tasyāmareśasya vacanādvārijodbhavaḥ| vareṇyaṃ varadaṃ rudram astuvatpraṇanāma ca||
Śrī Viṣṇu said: At the instance of the lord of the immortals, the lotus-born deity eulogised and bowed to Rudra the most excellent one and the bestower of boons.

अथाम्भसा प्लुतां भूमीं समाधाय जनार्दनः। पूर्ववत्स्थापयामास वाराहं रूपमास्थितः।।
athāmbhasā plutāṃ bhūmīṃ samādhāya janārdanaḥ| pūrvavatsthāpayāmāsa vārāhaṃ rūpamāsthitaḥ||
Śrī Viṣṇu said: Then Viṣṇu assumed the form of a Boar and lifted up the earth submerged under the water. He re-established it as it was originally.

नदीनदसमुद्रांश च पूर्ववच्चाकरोत्प्रभुः। कृत्वा चोर्वीं प्रयत्नेन निम्नोन्नतविवर्जिताम।।
nadīnadasamudrāṃś ca pūrvavaccākarotprabhuḥ| kṛtvā corvīṃ prayatnena nimnonnatavivarjitām||
Śrī Viṣṇu said: With great effort he made the earth even, without ups and downs. The lord created the rivulets, rivers and the oceans as before.

धरायां सो ऽचिनोत्सर्वान भूधरान भूधराकृतिः। भूराद्यांश्चतुरो लोकान कल्पयामास पूर्ववत।।
dharāyāṃ so 'cinotsarvān bhūdharān bhūdharākṛtiḥ| bhūrādyāṃścaturo lokān kalpayāmāsa pūrvavat||
Śrī Viṣṇu said: The lord having the form of a boar[1] the uplifter of the earth, gathered all the mountains together. As before he created the four worlds beginning with Bhūḥ.

स्रष्टुं च भगवांश्चक्रे मतिं मतिमतां वरः। मुख्यं च तैर्यग्योन्यं च दैविकं मानुषं तथा।।
sraṣṭuṃ ca bhagavāṃścakre matiṃ matimatāṃ varaḥ| mukhyaṃ ca tairyagyonyaṃ ca daivikaṃ mānuṣaṃ tathā||
Śrī Viṣṇu said: The lord who was the most excellent of all intelligent persons became inclined to create the chief creation, the animal creation, and then the divine and human creations.

विभुश्चानुग्रहं तत्र कौमारकम अदीनधीः। पुरस्तादसृजद्देवः सनन्दं सनकं तथा।।
vibhuścānugrahaṃ tatra kaumārakam adīnadhīḥ| purastādasṛjaddevaḥ sanandaṃ sanakaṃ tathā||
Śrī Viṣṇu said: With the intellect free from wretchedness the lord at the outset created Sananda, Sanaka and Sanātana the most excellent among the good. All these practised Naiṣkarmya and attained the greatest being. By his yogic learning he created Marīci, Bhṛgu, Aṅgiras, Pulastya, Pulaha, Kratu, Dakṣa, Atri, Vasiṣṭha, Saṅkalpa, Dharma and Adharma. Thus there are twelve sons to Brahmā born of the unmanifest.

सनातनं सतां श्रेष्ठं नैष्कर्म्येण गताः परम। मरीचिभृग्वङ्गिरसं पुलस्त्यं पुलहं क्रतुम।।
sanātanaṃ satāṃ śreṣṭhaṃ naiṣkarmyeṇa gatāḥ param| marīcibhṛgvaṅgirasaṃ pulastyaṃ pulahaṃ kratum||
Śrī Viṣṇu said: With the intellect free from wretchedness the lord at the outset created Sananda, Sanaka and Sanātana the most excellent among the good. All these practised Naiṣkarmya and attained the greatest being. By his yogic learning he created Marīci, Bhṛgu, Aṅgiras, Pulastya, Pulaha, Kratu, Dakṣa, Atri, Vasiṣṭha, Saṅkalpa, Dharma and Adharma. दक्षमत्रिं वसिष्ठं च सो ऽसृजद योगविद्यया। संकल्पं चैव धर्मं च ह्य अधर्मं भगवान्प्रभुः।।
dakṣamatriṃ vasiṣṭhaṃ ca so 'sṛjad yogavidyayā| saṃkalpaṃ caiva dharmaṃ ca hy adharmaṃ bhagavānprabhuḥ||
Śrī Viṣṇu said: With the intellect free from wretchedness the lord at the outset created Sananda, Sanaka and Sanātana the most excellent among the good. तौ चोर्ध्वरेतसौ दिव्यौ चाग्रजौ ब्रह्मवादिनौ। कुमारौ ब्रह्मणस्तुल्यौ सर्वज्ञौ सर्वभाविनौ।।
tau cordhvaretasau divyau cāgrajau brahmavādinau| kumārau brahmaṇastulyau sarvajñau sarvabhāvinau||
Śrī Viṣṇu said: With the intellect free from wretchedness the lord at the outset created Sananda, Sanaka and Sanātana the most excellent among the good. एवं मुख्यादिकान सृष्ट्वा पद्मयोनिः शिलाशन। युगधर्मानशेषांश च कल्पयामास विश्वसृक।।
evaṃ mukhyādikān sṛṣṭvā padmayoniḥ śilāśana| yugadharmānaśeṣāṃś ca kalpayāmāsa viśvasṛk||
