Maitreya said: Thus, you have been described the supreme soul known as Kshatta, whose glory is hidden in the Vedas. Understand this as I explain.

He created the initial darkness, the mixture of darkness, and the great delusion, along with ignorance and its manifestations.

Seeing the sinful creation, he did not identify himself with it, but with a mind purified by devotion to the Lord, he then created.

He created Sanaka, Sanandana, and the eternal Atma-Bhu, along with the sage Sanatkumara, who is beyond all activity.

He spoke to them, his sons, saying: 'I create progeny, but I do not desire liberation or dharma, being devoted to Vasudeva.'

Thus, being afflicted by his sons, he attempted to control the unbearable anger that arose from their rejection.

Though restrained by wisdom, the anger of the lord of creatures arose suddenly from the middle of his brows, and he became a blue-red child.

He, the original being, cried out to the gods, 'O Lord of the Universe, grant me names and places.'

Thus, the lotus-faced Lord, protecting him, spoke with auspicious words, 'Do not cry; I will do this for you.'

The one who cries, like the best of the gods, is indeed a child filled with emotion; hence, the people will call you by the name Rudra.

The heart, the senses, the sky, the wind, fire, water, and the earth; the sun, the moon, and austerity—these are the places created by me.

Anger, Manu, the great Mahinasa, the great Shiva, the banner of truth; fierce energy, time, and Vamadeva, the steadfast one.

Intellect, behavior, the fierce one, and the nourishing ambrosia; the river Iravati, the nectar, and the women of Rudra.

Accept these names and places, O Sayoṣaṇa; with these, create many beings, for you are the lord of all beings.

Thus instructed by the guru, the Lord Nīlalohita, by his nature of sattva, created beings equal to himself.

The world, created by the Rudras, is being consumed from all sides. The Prajapati is in doubt about the countless groups.

O best of the gods, it is enough to create beings with the help of the creatures. With my fiery eyes, I burn the directions.

Meditate, may you be auspicious to all beings, bringing happiness. As before, you, the creator, have made this universe.

Through meditation, one attains the supreme light, the Lord who is beyond perception. A person realizes the essence residing in all beings.

Maitreya said: Thus instructed by the self-born, after circumambulating the lord of speech, he, having chanted the mantra of Uma, entered the forest for meditation.

From that, the ten sons were born, who are the cause of the world's population, endowed with the power of the Lord.

Marichi, Atriya, Angirasa, Pulastya, Pulaha, and Kratu; Bhrigu, Vasistha, Daksha, and Narada are the tenth.

From the union, Narada was born; from Daksha's thumb, Swayambhu was born; from the breath, Vasistha was born; Bhrigu was born from the hand of Kratu.

From Pulaha, Nabhi was born; from Pulastya, the sage of the ears; from Angira, the eyes; from Atri, Marichi was born from the mind.

Dharma arises from the right side, where Narayana Himself resides; Adharma arises from behind, from which death causes fear in the world.

Desire in the heart, anger in the eyebrows, and greed beneath the lower lip; from the mouth, the ocean of speech, and from the belly, the source of all miseries.

From the shadow, the mud was born, the lord of the divine woman; if this is born from the mind and body, then the universe was created by the creator.

The speech of the slender daughter, the self-born one, is carried by the mind; the desireless one was desired by the one who has desires, thus it is heard by us.

Seeing the unrighteous one with a determined mind, the sons addressed their father; the sages headed by Marichi, with confidence, reminded him.

This was not done by the previous ones, nor will others do it; as you, O lord, will take your daughter away, controlling the body.

Even among the powerful, this is not well spoken of, O Guru of the world. The world acts for the welfare of those who adhere to such conduct.

Salutations to that Bhagavan, who, with his own brilliance, reveals the self and is worthy of protecting this dharma.

Thus, seeing the sons of Prajapati singing, the lord of Prajapati, feeling shy, abandoned his body. The directions were engulfed in a terrible fog, as those who know the darkness understood.

At one time, while contemplating, the creator, from the four-faced Veda, wondered how I would protect the worlds that are assembled as before.

The four aspects of dharma are the rituals of the Chaturhotra, along with the methods of offering.

Vidura said: The Lord, who is the creator of the universe, manifested the Vedas from His mouth. Please tell me, O sage, whatever the deity created.

Maitreya said: The Rig, Yajur, Sama, and Atharva Vedas were manifested from the mouths of the ancient sages. The scriptures, hymns, and rituals were established in order.

The Ayurveda, Dhanurveda, Gandharva Veda, and the Veda of architecture were also manifested in order from the mouths of the ancient sages.

The Lord, who is the essence of all knowledge, created the Itihasas and Puranas as the fifth Veda, from all the mouths.

From the earlier mouths, the sixteen hymns, the praise of Agni, and the offerings were established, along with the Vajapeya sacrifice and the Gosava.

Knowledge, charity, austerity, truth, and the principles of dharma are the words. The ashramas were created according to their numbers along with their respective duties.

Savitra, Prajapati, and Brahma, along with the great ones, are the ones who reside in the house of the wealth of news.

Vaikhānasa, Vālkhilya, Uḍumbarā, and the foam-like ones in the forest. The Kūtīcaka was previously associated with many hansas, who are inactive.

The Anvīkṣikī, the three Vedas, news, and the code of punishment, are also present. Thus, the utterances of these were the Pranava of the subtle one.

From the warm, the Gayatri, and the skin of the Lord, the Trishtum, from the flesh, the Snut, and the Anushtubh, the Gati of Prajapati.

From the ocean, a great wave arose, which became the life force. Its touch gave rise to life, and the voice was manifested in the body.

The senses are said to be the warmth, and the strength resides within. The seven voices emerge from the activities of the creator.

The sound is the essence of the absolute, which is both manifest and unmanifest. The infinite Brahman shines forth, endowed with diverse powers.

Then, taking the mind for creation, he focused it. This creation is vast, filled with the great energies of the sages.

Knowing this, the Kaurava contemplated deeply in his heart. Oh, how wonderful this is, even amidst my constant endeavors.

Indeed, the people do not perish; the divine is the cause of their downfall. Thus, when one acts with wisdom, the divine is also considered.

Whose form was divided into two, that body is what is perceived. From these two forms, the couple came together.

He who was there became Manu, the self-born king. The woman, known by the name of 'the beautiful form', belonged to the great soul.

Then, by the law of coupling, the people indeed multiplied. And he also created other beings in the form of a hundred.

Priyavrata and Uttanapada had three daughters, O Bharata. Aakuti, Devahuti, and Prasuti are the names of these.

He bestowed the middle one upon the earth, which is full of beauty, and from which the world was filled.
