ब्रह्म॑ जज्ञा॒नं प्र॑थ॒मं पु॒रस्ता॒द् वि सी॑म॒तः सु॒रुचो॑ वे॒न आ॑वः । स बु॒ध्न्याऽ उप॒मा अ॑स्य वि॒ष्ठाः स॒तश्च॒ योनि॒मस॑तश्च॒ वि वः॑ ॥१॥
brahma jajñānaṃ prathamaṃ purastād vi sīmataḥ suruco vena āvaḥ | sa budhnyā upamā asya viṣṭhāḥ satash ca yonim asatash ca vi vaḥ |
Brahma knew knowledge first, in the beginning, before; from the farthest limit arose Vena of fair radiance. His foundations are in the deep; his station is the model—of the existent and of the non-existent he makes you distinct.

अना॑प्ता॒ ये वः॑ प्रथ॒मा यानि॒ कर्मा॑णि चक्रि॒रे। वी॒रान् नो॒ अत्र मा द॑भ॒न् तद् व॑ ए॒तत् पु॒रो द॑धे ॥२॥
anāptā ye vaḥ prathamā yāni karmāṇi cakrire | vīrān no atra mā dabhann tad va etat puro dadhe |
Those first deeds of yours that were unachieved—let them not overpower our heroes here. I set this before you for that very purpose.

स॒हस्र॑धार ए॒व ते सम॑स्वरन् दि॒वो नाके॒ मधु॑जिह्वा अस॒श्चतः॑ । तस्य॒ स्पशो॒ न नि मि॑षन्ति॒ भूर्ण॑यः प॒देप॑दे पा॒शिनः॑ सन्ति॒ सेत॑वे ॥३॥
sahasradhāra eva te samasvaran divo nāke madhujihvā asaścataḥ | tasya spaśo na ni miṣanti bhūrṇayaḥ pade pade pāśinaḥ santi setave |
A thousand streams resound for you in unison, on heaven’s ridge, honey-tongued and well-ordered. Their spies do not blink, keen-sighted; at every step there are nooses set for the crossing.

पर्यू॒ षु प्र ध॑न्वा॒ वाज॑सातये॒ परि॑ वृ॒त्राणि॑ स॒क्षणिः॑ । द्वि॒षस्तदध्य॑र्ण॒वेने॑यसे सनिस्र॒सो नामा॑सि त्रयोद॒शो मास॒ इन्द्र॑स्य गृ॒हः ॥४॥
pary ūṣu pradhanvā vĀjasātaye pari vṛtrāṇi sākṣaṇiḥ | dviṣas tad adhy arṇavena eyase sanisraso nāmāsi trayodaśo māsa indrasya gṛhaḥ |
All around, the bow is drawn for the winning of prize; the destroyer circles the Vṛtras. Let the hater sink in the deep. With you as guide, O thirteen-months-named, the house of Indra is attained.

nvetena ārātsī rasau svāhā. tigmāyudhau tigmahetī suśevau somārudrā viha su mṛḍataṃ naḥ
By this, may the foes be struck down—svāhā. O Soma and Rudra, keen-weaponed, sharp-missiled, gracious—here be pleased and have mercy on us.

mumuktam asmān duritād avadyāj juṣethāṃ yajñam amṛtam asmāsu dhattam
Release us from sin, from blame. May you accept the deathless sacrifice; bestow immortality upon us.

चक्षु॑षो हेते॒ मन॑सो हेते॒ ब्रह्म॑णो हेते॒ तप॑सश्च हेते । मे॒न्या मे॒निर॑स्यमे॒नय॒स्ते स॑न्तु॒ ये॒३स्माँ अ॑भ्यघा॒यन्ति॑ ॥९॥
cakṣuṣo heté manaso heté brahmaṇo heté tapasasca heté menyā menirasya menayas te santu ye smān abhyaghāyanti
Darts of the eye, darts of the mind, darts of sacred utterance, and darts of austerity—may their stains, their stain-makers, their sins fall upon those who wish us harm.

yo ’smāñ cakṣuṣā manasā cittayā kūtyā ca yo aghāyur abhidāsāt | tvaṃ tān agne menyām enīn kṛṇu svāhā
Whoever has harmed us with eye, mind, thought or deceit, whoever the evildoer who has attacked—Agni, make them faults and blemishes. Svāhā.

indrasya gṛho ’si | taṃ tvā pra padyé taṃ tvā praviśāmi sarvaguḥ sarvapūruṣaḥ sarvātmā sarvatanūḥ saha yan me ’sti tena
You are Indra’s dwelling. To you I resort; into you I enter—pervading all, the all-person, the all-self, the all-bodied—together with whatever is mine, with that.
