रात्री॑ मा॒ता नभः॑ पि॒तार्य॒मा ते॑ पिताम॒हः । सि॒ला॒ची नाम॒ वा अ॑सि॒ सा दे॒वाना॑मसि॒ स्वसा॑ ॥१॥
rātrī mātā nabhaḥ pitā aryamā te pitāmahaḥ | silācī nāma vā asi sā devānām asi svasā |
Night is the mother, Sky the father; Aryaman is your grandsire. You are called Silācī—sister among the gods.

yas tvā pibati jīvati trāyase puruṣaṃ tvam | bhartrī hi śaśvatām asi janānāṃ ca nyañcanī |
Who drinks you lives; by you a person is protected. You are indeed the lasting sustainer and the one who sets people at ease.

vṛkṣaṃ vṛkṣam ā rohasi vṛṣaṇyantīva kanyalā | jayantī pratyātiṣṭhantī sparaṇī nāma vā asi |
You sprout from tree to tree, like a maiden in her vigor. Victorious, standing firm, you are called Sparaṇī.

यद् द॒ण्डेन॒ यदिष्वा॒ यद् वारु॒र्हर॑सा कृ॒तम्। तस्य॒ त्वम॑सि॒ निष्कृ॑तिः॒ सेमं निष्कृ॑धि॒ पूरु॑षम्॥४॥
yad daṇḍena yadiṣvā yad vāruṛ harasā kṛtam tasya tvam asi niṣkṛtiḥ semaṁ niṣkṛdhi pūruṣam
Whatever has been done with the staff, with the arrow, by Varuṇa, or in anger—of that you are the atonement; make atonement for this man.

bhadrāt plakṣān nistiṣṭhasy aśvatthāt khadirād dhavāt bhadrān nyagrodhāt parṇāt sā na ehy arundhati
You stand forth from the auspicious plakṣa, from the aśvattha, from khadira, from dhava; from the auspicious nyagrodha leaf—come hither, O Arundhatī.

hiraṇyavarṇe subhage sūryavarṇe vapuṣṭame ṛtaṁ gachāsi niṣkṛte niṣkṛtir nāma vā asi
Golden-hued, auspicious, sun-colored, fairest in form—go to righteousness, O Atonement; your very name is Atonement.

hiraṇyavarṇe subhage śuṣme lomaśa-vakṣane apām asi svasā lākṣe vāto hātma babhūva te
Golden-hued, auspicious, puissant, with hair upon the breast—you are the sister of the waters, O lākh; Vāta became your messenger.

सि॒ला॒ची नाम॑ कानी॒नोऽज॑बभ्रु पि॒ता तव॑ । अश्वो॑ य॒मस्य॒ यः श्या॒वस्तस्य॑ हा॒स्नास्यु॑क्षि॒ता॥८॥
silācī nāma kānīno ’jababhru pitā tava aśvo yamasya yaḥ śyāvas tasya hāsnāsy ukṣitā
Silācī is the name; Kānīna is your mother; Ajababhrū is your father. The dark horse of Yama—let his nostrils be smeared with you.

aśvasyāsnaḥ sampatitā sā vṛkṣām abhi siṣyade | sarā patatriṇī bhūtvā sā na ehy arundhati |
The fillet of the mare, loosed, advances; becoming a bird, a winged one, it circles the trees. Become a flowing, winged creature, come here—let it not be restrained.
