पु॒रस्ता॑द् यु॒क्तो व॑ह जातवे॒दोऽग्ने॑ वि॒द्धि क्रि॒यमा॑णं॒ यथे॒दम्। त्वं भि॒षग् भे॑ष॒जस्या॑सि क॒र्ता त्वया॒ गामश्वं॒ पुरु॑षं सनेम ॥१॥
purastād yukto vaha jātavedo agne viddhi kriyamāṇaṃ yathedam. tvaṃ bhiṣag bheṣajasyāsi kartā tvayā gāmaśvaṃ puruṣaṃ sanema.
Harnessed in front, carry us, Jātavedas. Agni, perceive what is being done here. You are the healer and maker of remedies; through you may we win cow, horse, and man.

तथा॒ तद॑ग्ने कृणु जातवेदो॒ विश्वे॑भिर्दे॒वैः स॒ह सं॑विदा॒नः । यो नो॑ दि॒देव॑ यत॒मो ज॒घास॒ यथा॒ सो अ॒स्य प॑रि॒धिष्पता॑ति ॥२॥
tathā tad agne kṛṇu jātavedo viśvebhir devaiḥ saha saṃvidānaḥ. yo no dideva yatamo jaghāsa yathā so asya paridhiṣ patāti.
So do that, Agni Jātaveda, in concert with all the gods. Whoever has mocked us, the fiercest who has devoured—may he, as if ringed round, be checked.

यथा॒ सो अ॒स्य प॑रि॒धिष्पता॑ति तथा॒ तद॑ग्ने कृणु जातवेदः । विश्वे॑भिर्दे॒वैः स॒ह सं॑विदा॒नः ॥३॥
yathā so asya paridhiṣ patāti tathā tad agne kṛṇu jātavedaḥ. viśvebhir devaiḥ saha saṃvidānaḥ.
As he is checked within the boundary, so do that, Agni Jātaveda, in concert with all the gods.

अ॒क्ष्यौ॒३नि वि॑ध्य॒ हृद॑यं॒ नि वि॑ध्य जि॒ह्वां नि तृ॑न्द्धि॒ प्र द॒तो मृ॑णीहि । पि॒शा॒चो अ॒स्य य॑त॒मो ज॒घासाग्ने यविष्ठ॒ प्रति॒ तं शृ॑णीहि ॥४॥
akṣyāṇi vidhya hṛdayaṃ ni vidhya jihvāṃ ni tṛnddhi pra dato mṛṇīhi. piśāco asya yatamo jaghāsāgne yaviṣṭha prati taṃ śṛṇīhi.
Pierce his eyes, pierce the heart; hack the tongue, crush the teeth. The fiercest Piśāca has devoured him—Agni, most youthful, shatter him back.

यद॑स्य हृ॒तं विहृ॑तं॒ यत् परा॑भृतमा॒त्मनो॑ ज॒ग्धं य॑तम॒त् पि॑शा॒चैः । तद॑ग्ने वि॒द्वान् पुन॒रा भ॑र॒ त्वं शरी॑रे मां॒समसु॒मेर॑यामः ॥५॥
yadasya hṛtaṃ vihṛtaṃ yat parābhṛtam ātmano jagdhaṃ yatamat piśācaiḥ. tad agne vidvān punar ā bhara tvaṃ śarīre māṃsam asumerayāmaḥ.
Whatever of his is stolen, carried off, or turned away—his very self eaten by the fiercest Piśācas—Agni, knowing, bring that back again; let us set the flesh well together in the body.

आ॒मे सुप॑क्वे श॒बले॒ विप॑क्वे॒ यो मा॑ पिशा॒चो अश॑ने द॒दम्भ॑ । तदा॒त्मना॑ प्र॒जया॑ पिशा॒चा वि या॑तयन्तामग॒दो॒३यम॑स्तु ॥६॥
āme supakve śabale vipakve yo mā piśāco aśane dadambha tad ātmanā prajayā piśācā vi yātayantām agadho ’yam astu
In well-cooked food, in the mottled, overcooked dish, the Piśāca who deceived me in eating—by their own self and offspring let the Piśācas be driven away; let this be a remedy.

क्षि॒रे मा॑ म॒न्थे य॑त॒मो द॒दम्भा॑कृष्टप॒च्ये अश॑ने धा॒न्ये॒३यः । तदा॒त्मना॑ प्र॒जया॑ पिशा॒चा वि या॑तयन्तामग॒दो॒३यम॑स्तु ॥७॥
kṣire mā manthe yatamo dadambhākṛṣṭapacye aśane dhānye yaḥ tad ātmanā prajayā piśācā vi yātayantām agadho ’yam astu
In milk, in the churn, in the thickened food he deceived me; in the grain cooked on the field. By their own self and offspring let the Piśācas be driven away; let this be a remedy.

In the drinking of waters he deceived me; the flesh-eater among the Yātus lying upon my couch. By their own self and offspring let the Piśācas be driven away; let this be a remedy.

divā mā naktaṃ yatamo dadambha kravyād yātūnāṃ śayane śayānam tad ātmanā prajayā piśācā vi yātayantām agadho ’yam astu
By day, by night he deceived me; the flesh-eater among the Yātus lying upon my couch. By their own self and offspring let the Piśācas be driven away; let this be a remedy.

क्र॒व्याद॑मग्ने रुधि॒रं पि॑शा॒चं म॑नो॒हनं॑ जहि जातवेदः । तमिन्द्रो॑ वा॒जी वज्रे॑ण हन्तु छि॒नत्तु॒ सोमः॒ शिरो॑ अस्य धृ॒ष्णुः ॥१०॥
kravyādam agne rudhiraṃ piśācaṃ manohanaṃ jahi jātavedas tam indro vājī vajreṇa hantu chinattu somaḥ śiro ’sya dhṛṣṇuḥ
Man-eater, O Agni, the blood-drinking Piśāca that beguiles the mind—slay, O Jātavedas. Let Indra the steed-rich smite him with the vajra; let bold Soma cut off his head.

स॒नाद॑ग्ने मृणसि यातु॒धाना॒न् न त्वा॒ रक्षां॑सि॒ पृत॑नासु जिग्युः । स॒हमू॑रा॒ननु॑ दह क्र॒व्यादो॒ मा ते॑ हे॒त्या मु॑क्षतः॒ दैव्या॑याः ॥११॥
sanād agne mṛṇasi yātudhānān na tvā rakṣāṃsi pṛtanāsu jigyuḥ saha-mūrān anu daha kravyādo mā te hetyā mukṣataḥ daivyāyāḥ
Agni, from of old you crush the Yātudhānas; let not the Rakṣases defeat you in the battles. Burn down the witless flesh-eaters; let not the weapons of the divine strike you down.

स॒माह॑र जातवेदो॒ यद्धृ॒तं यत् परा॑भृतम्। गात्रा॑ण्यस्य वर्धन्तामं॒शुरि॒वा प्या॑यताम॒यम्॥१२॥
samāhara jātavedo yad dhṛtaṃ yat parābhṛtam gātrāṇy asya vardhantām aṃśur ivā pyāyatām ayam
Gather together, Jātavedas, whatever has been held back, whatever carried away. Let his limbs grow; let this man swell like a Soma-drop.

सोम॑स्येव जातवेदो अं॒शुरा प्या॑यताम॒यम्। अग्ने॑ विर॒प्शिनं॒ मेध्य॑मय॒क्ष्मं कृ॑णु॒ जीव॑तु ॥१३॥
somasyaiva jātavedo aṃśur ā pyāyatām ayam agne virapśinaṃ medhyam ayakṣmaṃ kṛṇu jīvatu
May this man swell like the Soma’s drop, O Jātavedas. Agni, make him fair and strong, pure, free from wasting—let him live.

etās te agne samidhaḥ piśācajambhanīḥ tāsvam juṣasva prati cainā gṛhāṇa jātavedaḥ
Here are your kindlings, Agni—spells that crush Piśācas. Do you accept them and take them up, Jātavedas.

ता॒र्ष्टा॒घीर॑ग्ने स॒मिधः॒ प्रति॑ गृह्णाह्य॒र्चिषा॑ । जहा॑तु क्र॒व्याद् रू॒पं यो अ॑स्य मां॒सं जिही॑र्षति ॥१५॥
tārṣṭāghīr agne samidhaḥ prati gṛhṇāhy arciṣā jahātu kravyād rūpaṃ yo asya māṃsaṃ jihīrṣati
O Agni sharp of flame, take up these kindlings with your blaze. Let the flesh-eater’s form be destroyed—whoever longs for his flesh.
