उ॒च्चैर्घो॑षो दुन्दु॒भिः स॑त्वना॒यन् वा॑नस्प॒त्यः संभृ॑त उ॒स्रिया॑भिः । वाचं॑ क्षुणुवा॒नो द॒मय॑न्त्स॒पत्ना॑न्त्सिं॒ह इ॑व जे॒ष्यन्न॒भि तंस्तनीहि ॥१॥
uccair ghoṣo dundubhiḥ satvanāyan vānaspatyaḥ saṃbhṛta usriyābhiḥ vācaṃ kṣuṇuvāno damayants sapatnān siṃha iva jeṣyann abhi taṃs tanīhi
Thunder loud, O drum, fashioned of wood and bound with rawhide, to embolden; shake speech, subdue the rivals—like a lion, go forth to win; stretch over them.

सिं॒ह इ॑वास्तानीद् द्रु॒वयो॒ विब॑द्धोऽभि॒क्रन्द॑न्नृष॒भो वा॑सि॒तामि॑व । वृषा॒ त्वं वध्र॑यस्ते स॒पत्ना॑ ऐ॒न्द्रस्ते॒ शुष्मो॑ अभिमातिषा॒हः ॥२॥
siṃha ivāstānīd druvayo vibaddho ’bhikrandann ṛṣabho vāsitām iva vṛṣā tvaṃ vadhrayas te sapatnā aindras te śuṣmo abhimātiśāhaḥ
Roar like a lion, firmly set and well-bound; you are the bellowing bull, as it were. Be the virile one—strike down the rivals; your Indra-given might crushes hostile designs.

वृषे॑व यू॒थे सह॑सा विदा॒नो ग॒व्यन्न॒भि रु॑व संधनाजित्। शु॒चा वि॑ध्य॒ हृद॑यं॒ परे॑षां हि॒त्वा ग्रामा॒न् प्रच्यु॑ता यन्तु॒ शत्र॑वः ॥३॥
vṛṣeva yūthe sahasā vidāno gavyann abhi ruva saṃdhanājit śucā vidhya hṛdayaṃ pareṣāṃ hitvā grāmān pracyutā yantu śatravaḥ
Like a bull breaking into a herd with sudden force, bellowing for cattle, charge and conquer the lashers. Pierce the hearts of adversaries with brilliance; let the foes, torn from their towns, be driven away.

सं॒जय॒न् पृत॑ना ऊ॒र्ध्वमा॑यु॒र्गृह्या॑ गृह्णा॒नो ब॑हु॒धा वि च॑क्ष्व । दैवीं॒ वाचं॑ दुन्दुभ॒ आ गु॑रस्व वे॒धाः शत्रू॑णा॒मुप॑ भरस्व॒ वेदः॑ ॥४॥
saṃjayan pṛtanā ūrdhvam āyur gṛhyā gṛhnāno bahudhā vi cakṣva daivīṃ vācaṃ dundubha ā gurasva vedhāḥ śatrūṇām upa bharasva vedaḥ
Subdue the hosts; raise high the lifespan; grasp as one who takes captives; look on in many ways. Summon the divine voice, O drum; bring the wounds of the enemies to light and carry their knowledge here.

दु॒न्दु॒भेर्वाचं॒ प्रय॑तां॒ वद॑न्तीमाशृण्व॒ती ना॑थि॒ता घोष॑बुद्धा । नारी॑ पु॒त्रं धा॑वतु हस्त॒गह्या॑मि॒त्री भी॒ता स॑म॒रे व॒धाना॑म्॥५॥
dundubher vācaṃ prayatāṃ vadantīm āśṛṇvatī nāthitā ghoṣa-buddhā nārī putraṃ dhāvatu hasta-gahyām itrī bhītā samare vadhānām
Let the trained voice of the war-drum speak; let the heedful hear its call. Let the woman run to seize her child by the hand; let the foe, in terror, flee the slaughter in battle.

पूर्वो॑ दुन्दुभे॒ प्र व॑दासि॒ वाचं॒ भूम्याः॑ पृ॒ष्ठे व॑द॒ रोच॑मानः । अ॒मि॒त्र॒से॒नाम॑भि॒जञ्ज॑भानो द्यु॒मद् व॑द दुन्दुभे सू॒नृता॑वत्॥६॥
pūrvo dundubhe pravadāsi vācaṃ bhūmyāḥ pṛṣṭhe vada rocamānaḥ amitra-senām abhijañjabhāno dyumad vada dundubhe sūnṛtāvat
O drum, proclaim the message first; resound, radiant, upon the earth’s back. Smite the enemy host with your awakening; speak, O bright drum, with gracious strength.

अ॒न्त॒रेमे नभ॑सी॒ घोषो॑ अस्तु॒ पृथ॑क् ते ध्व॒नयो॑ यन्तु॒ शीभ॑म्। अ॒भि क्र॑न्द स्त॒नयो॒त्पिपा॑नः श्लोक॒कृन्मि॑त्र॒तूर्या॑य स्व॒र्धी॥७॥
antare me nabhasī ghoṣo astu pṛthak te dhvanayo yantu śībham abhi kranda stanayotpipānaḥ ślokakṛn mitra tūryāya svar-dhī
Let this roar be in mid-sky; let your sounds go apart and pierce the foe. Cry aloud, thunderer, ever-drinking; maker of fame, raise our valor against the enemy.

धी॒भिः कृ॒तः प्र व॑दाति॒ वाच॒मुद्ध॑र्षय॒ सत्व॑ना॒मायु॑धानि । इन्द्र॑मेदी॒ सत्व॑नो॒ नि ह्व॑यस्व मि॒त्रैर॒मित्राँ॒ अव॑ जङ्घनीहि ॥८॥
dhībhiḥ kṛtaḥ pravadāti vācam uddharṣaya satvanām āyudhāni indram edī satvano ni hvayasva mitrair amitrān ava jaṅghānīhi
Fashioned by insight, let it utter its voice and rouse the weapons of the valiant. Praise Indra, O brave ones, and call him; with friends, strike down the foes.

सं॒क्रन्दनः॑ प्रव॒दो धृ॒ष्णुषे॑णः प्रवेद॒कृद् ब॑हु॒धा ग्रा॑मघो॒षी। श्रेयो॑ वन्वा॒नो व॒युना॑नि वि॒द्वान् की॒र्तिं ब॒हुभ्यो॒ वि ह॑र द्विरा॒जे॥९॥
saṃkrandanaḥ pravado dhṛṣṇuṣeṇaḥ pravedakṛd bahudhā grāmaghoṣī śreyo vanvāno vayunāni vidvān kīrtiṃ bahubhyo vi hara dvirāje
Roaring together, speak forth; be bold, revealing, a many-voiced herald of the host. Winning the better by knowing the ways, bear renown for many in the double realm.

श्रेयः॑केतो वसु॒जित् सहीयान्त्संग्राम॒जित् संशि॑तो॒ ब्रह्म॑णासि । अं॒शूनि॑व॒ ग्रावा॑धि॒षव॑णे॒ अद्रि॑र्ग॒व्य॑न् दु॑न्दु॒भेऽधि॑ नृत्य॒ वेदः॑ ॥१०॥
śreyaḥ-keto vasujit sahīyānt saṃgrāma-jit saṃśito brahmaṇāsi. aṃśūni va grāvādhi ṣavaṇe adrir gavyan dundubhe ’dhi nṛtya vedaḥ.
You are the seeker of auspicious good, the winner of wealth, strong in might, unconquered in battle, made firm by sacred Brahma. Like portions set upon the pressing-stone, O rock at the pressing, seeking cows, O war-drum, upon you the Veda dances.

श॒त्रू॒षाण् नी॒षाड॑भिमातिषा॒हो ग॒वेष॑णः॒ सह॑मान उ॒द्भित्। वा॒ग्वीव॒ मन्त्रं॒ प्र भ॑रस्व॒ वाचं॒ सांग्रा॑मजित्या॒येष॒मुद् व॑दे॒ह॥११॥
śatrūṣān nīṣāḍ abhimāti-śāho gaveṣaṇaḥ sahamāna udbhith. vāgvīva mantraṃ prabharasva vācaṃ sāṃgrāma-jityā yeṣam ud vadeha.
Crusher of foes, subduer of hostility and assault, seeker of cows, steadfast, upraiser—like a master of speech, bring forth the inspired utterance; proclaim the speech for victory in battle; let me speak this forth.

अ॒च्यु॒त॒च्युत् स॒मदो॒ गमि॑ष्ठो॒ मृधो॒ जेता॑ पुरए॒तायो॒ध्यः । इन्द्रे॑ण गु॒प्तो वि॒दथा॑ नि॒चिक्य॑द्धृ॒द्द्योत॑नो द्विष॒तां या॑हि॒ शीभ॑म्॥१२॥
acyuta-cyut samado gamiṣṭho mṛdho jetā pur etāyo yadhyaḥ. indreṇa gupto vidathā nicikyad dhṛd-dyotano dviṣatāṃ yāhi śībham.
Unfailing and unfallen, ally in the fray, most forward, victor in conflict, guide of the host, fit to be led; guarded by Indra, discerning at the councils, striking fear in the hearts of foes—go forth quickly to chastise the haters.
