१-८ अथर्वा । वनस्पतिः, १-२ सूर्यः, प्रजापतिः, ४ इन्द्रः, ५ आपः, सोमः, यां त्वा॑ गन्ध॒र्वो अख॑न॒द् वरु॑णाय मृ॒तभ्र॑जे । तां त्वा॑ व॒यं ख॑नाम॒स्योष॑धिं शेप॒हर्ष॑णीम्॥१॥
atharvā vanaspatiḥ sūryaḥ prajāpatiḥ indraḥ āpaḥ somaḥ yāṃ tvā gandharvo akhanad varuṇāya mṛtabhraje tāṃ tvā vayaṃ khanāmasy oṣadhiṃ śepaharṣaṇīm
O Atharvan: the tree, the Sun, Prajāpati, Indra, the Waters, Soma—what the Gandharva dug for you for Varuṇa, breaker of death, that herb which loosens the fetter we now dig for you.

उदु॒षा उदु॒ सूर्य॒ उदि॒दं मा॑म॒कं वचः॑ । उदे॑जतु प्र॒जाप॑ति॒र्वृषा॒ शुष्मे॑ण वा॒जिना॑ ॥२॥
uduṣā udu sūrya udi idaṃ māmakaṃ vacaḥ udejatu prajāpatis vṛṣā śuṣmeṇa vājinā
Dawn has risen, the Sun has risen, and this my utterance has arisen. Let Prajāpati, the mighty bull, rise up with strength and vigor.

यथा॑ स्म ते वि॒रोह॑तो॒ऽभित॑प्तमि॒वान॑ति । तत॑स्ते॒ शुष्म॑वत्तरमि॒यं कृ॑णो॒त्वोष॑धिः ॥३॥
yathā sma te virohato ’bhitaptam ivānati tatas te śuṣmavattaram iyaṃ kṛṇotv oṣadhiḥ
As one scorched bows down when you sprout forth, so from then on may this herb make you more vigorous.

Herbs of upsurging vigor, essence of the bull-strong—O Indra, place virility of men in this one who wastes away.

apāṁ rasaḥ prathamajo ’tho vanaspatīnām uta somasya bhrātāsy utārśam asi vṛṣṇyam
You are the sap of the waters, first-born, and of the plants; you are Soma’s brother, and we rouse in you the bull-like vigor.

adyāgne adya savitar adya devi sarasvati adyāsya brahmaṇaspate dhanur ivā tānayā pasaḥ
Today, Agni; today, Savitṛ; today, O goddess Sarasvatī; today, O Brahmaṇaspati—like a bow on the string, subdue these pests.

āhaṁ tanomi te paso adhi jyām iva dhanvani kramasva rśa iva rohita manavaglāyatā sadā
I stretch out your cattle as one draws the string on a bow. Step forth, like the ruddy one, ever without weariness.

अश्व॑स्याश्वत॒रस्या॒जस्य॒ पेत्व॑स्य च । अथ॑ ऋष॒भस्य॒ ये वाजा॒स्तान॒स्मिन्धे॑हि तनूवशिन्॥८॥
aśvasyāśvatarasyājasyā petvasya ca atha ṛṣabhasya ye vājās tān asmin dhehi tanūvaśin
Of the horse, the mule, the he-ass, and the stallion—and the prizes of the bull—install them here, O self-strong one.
