बयमो॑द॒नं प्र॑थम॒जा ऋ॒तस्य॑ प्र॒जाप॑ति॒स्तप॑सा ब्र॒ह्मणेऽप॑चत्। यो लो॒कानां॒ विधृ॑ति॒र्नाभि॒रेषा॒त् तेनौ॑द॒नेनाति॑ तराणि मृ॒त्युम्॥१॥
bayam odanaṁ prathamajā ṛtasya prajāpatis tapasā brahmaṇe ’pacat | yo lokānāṁ vidhṛtir nābhir eṣāt tenaudanenāti tarāṇi mṛtyum |
Prājāpati, by austerity, cooked the first-born Odana of ṛta for Brahman. From this, the support and navel of the worlds—by that Odana may I cross beyond Death.

येनात॑रन् भूत॒कृतोऽति॑ मृ॒त्युं यम॒न्ववि॑द॒न् तप॑सा॒ श्रमे॑ण । यं प॒पाच॑ ब्र॒ह्मणे॒ ब्रह्म॒ पूर्वं॒ तेनौ॑द॒नेनाति॑ तराणि मृ॒त्युम्॥२॥
yenātaran bhūtakṛto ’ti mṛtyuṃ yam anvavidan tapasā śrameṇa yaṃ papāca brahmaṇe brahma pūrvaṃ tenaudanenāti tarāṇi mṛtyum
By which the makers of beings crossed beyond Death, by which they came to know Yama, through austerity and toil—by the porridge that Brahman first cooked for the Brāhmaṇa—by that odana I cross beyond Death.

यो दा॒धार॑ पृथि॒वीं वि॒श्वभो॑जसं॒ यो अ॒न्तरि॑क्ष॒मापृ॑णा॒द् रसे॑न । यो अस्त॑भ्ना॒द् दिव॑मू॒र्ध्वो म॑हि॒म्ना तेनौ॑द॒नेनाति॑ तराणि मृ॒त्युम्॥३॥
yo dādhāra pṛthivīṃ viśvabhojasaṃ yo antarikṣam āpṛṇād rasena yo astabhnād divam ūrdhvo mahinā tenaudanenāti tarāṇi mṛtyum
By whom the earth, the sustainer of all, was upheld; who filled the midspace with essence; who propped the heaven aloft with might—by that odana I cross beyond Death.

यस्मा॒न्मासा॒ निर्मि॑तास्त्रिं॒शद॑राः संवत्स॒रो यस्मा॒न्निर्मि॑तो॒ द्वाद॑शारः । अ॒हो॒रा॒त्रा यं प॑रि॒यन्तो॒ नापुस्तेनौ॑दनेनाति॑ तराणि मृ॒त्युम्॥४॥
yasmān māsā nirmitās triṃśadarāḥ saṃvatsaro yasmān nirmito dvādaśāraḥ ahorātrā yaṃ pariyanto nāpus tenaudanenāti tarāṇi mṛtyum
From whom the months of thirty parts were fashioned, from whom the year of twelve parts was fashioned; whom days and nights circle without failing—by that odana I cross beyond Death.

यः प्रा॑ण॒दः प्रा॑ण॒दवा॑न् ब॒भूव॒ यस्मै॑ लो॒का घृ॒तव॑न्तः॒ क्षर॑न्ति । ज्योति॑ष्मतीः प्र॒दिशो॒ यस्य॒ सर्वा॒स्तेनौ॑द॒नेनाति॑ तराणि मृ॒त्युम्॥५॥
yaḥ prāṇadaḥ prāṇadavān babhūva yasmai lokā ghṛtavantaḥ kṣaranti jyotiṣmatīḥ pratiśo yasya sarvās tenaudanenāti tarāṇi mṛtyum
Who is life-giving, possessed of life-giving power; for whom the worlds, rich with ghee, flow; whose are all the shining quarters—by that odana I cross beyond Death.

यस्मा॑त् प॒क्वाद॒मृतं॑ संब॒भूव॒ यो गा॑य॒त्र्या अधि॑पतिर्ब॒भूव॑ । यस्मि॒न् वेदा॒ निहि॑ता वि॒श्वरू॑पा॒स्तेनौ॑द॒नेनाति॑ तराणि मृ॒त्युम्॥६॥
yasmāt pakvād amṛtaṃ saṃbabhūva yo gāyatryā adhipatir babhūva yasmin vedā nihatā viśvarūpās tenaudanenāti tarāṇi mṛtyum
From the cooked he brought forth the immortal; who became the lord of Gāyatrī; in whom the Vedas of every form are lodged—by that odana I cross beyond Death.

अव॑ बाधे द्वि॒षन्तं॑ देवपी॒युं स॒पत्ना॒ ये मेऽप॒ ते भ॑वन्तु । ब्र॒ह्मौ॒द॒नं वि॑श्व॒जितं॑ पचामि शृ॒ण्वन्तु॑ मे श्र॒द्दधा॑नस्य दे॒वाः ॥७॥
ava bādhe dviṣantaṃ devapīyuṃ sapatnā ye me ’pa te bhavantu brahmaudanaṃ viśvajitaṃ pacāmi śṛṇvantu me śraddadhānasya devāḥ
Let the hostile, the god-drinker, be restrained; whoever are my rivals, let them become not. I cook the Brahmaudana, the all-conquering oblation; may the gods hear me who am full of faith.
