अ॒जो ह्य॑१ग्नेरज॑निष्ट॒ शोका॒त् सो अ॑पश्यज्जनि॒तार॒मग्रे॑ । तेन॑ दे॒वा दे॒वता॒मग्रा॑ आय॒न् तेन॒ रोहा॑न् रुरुहु॒र्मेध्या॑सः ॥१॥
ajo hy agner ajaniṣṭa śokāt so apaśyaj janitāram agre tena devā devatām agrā āyan tena rohān ruruhur medhyāsaḥ
A birthless one was indeed born from Agni’s heat; he saw the begetter at the beginning. By him the gods first attained godhead; by him the pure ones rose to growth.

क्रम॑ध्वम॒ग्निना॒ नाक॒मुख्या॒न् हस्ते॑षु॒ बिभ्र॑तः । दि॒वस्पृ॒ष्ठं स्वऽर्ग॒त्वा मि॒श्रा दे॒वेभि॑राध्वम्॥२॥
krama dhvam agninā nāka-mukhyān hasteṣu bibhrataḥ divas-pṛṣṭhaṃ sva ṛgtvā miśrā devebhir ādhvam
Advance by Agni along the chief gates of heaven, bearing them in your hands. Having reached the back of the sky, your own exaltation, travel mingled with the gods.

पृ॒ष्ठात् पृ॑थि॒व्या अ॒हम॒न्तरि॑क्ष॒मारु॑हम॒न्तरि॑क्षा॒द् दिव॒मारु॑हम्। दि॒वो नाक॑स्य पृ॒ष्ठात् स्व॑१र्ज्योति॑रगाम॒हम्॥३॥
pṛṣṭhāt pṛthivyā aham antarīkṣam āruham antarīkṣād divaṃ āruham divo nākasya pṛṣṭhāt svar jyotir agām aham
From the back of earth I mounted the midspace; from the midspace I mounted the heaven. From the back of heaven’s vault I reached my own light.

स्व॑१र्यन्तो॒ नापे॑क्षन्त॒ आ द्यां रो॑हन्ति॒ रोद॑सी । य॒ज्ञं ये वि॒श्वतो॑धारं॒ सुवि॑द्वांसो वितेनि॒रे॥४॥
svaryanto nāpekṣanta ā dyāṃ rohanti rodasī yajñaṃ ye viśvatodhāraṃ suvidvāṃso vitenire
Going to heaven they do not look back; they ascend the twin worlds. The well-knowing have spread the sacrifice that upholds all sides.

अग्ने॒ प्रेहि॑ प्रथ॒मो दे॒वता॑नां॒ चक्षु॑र्दे॒वाना॑मु॒त मानु॑षानाम्। इय॑क्षमाणा॒ भृगु॑भिः स॒जोषाः॒ स्वऽर्यन्तु॒ यज॑मानाः स्व॒स्ति॥५॥
agne prehi prathamo devatānāṃ cakṣur devānām uta mānuṣānām iyaḳṣamāṇā bhṛghubhiḥ sajoṣāḥ svar yantu yajamānāḥ svasti
Agni, go forth as the foremost of the gods, the eye of the gods and of humans as well. Observing, together with the Bhṛgus, let the sacrificers proceed with well-being.

अ॒जम॑नज्मि॒ पय॑सा घृ॒तेन॑ दि॒व्यं सु॑प॒र्नं प॑य॒सं बृ॒हन्त॑म्। तेन॑ गेष्म सुकृ॒तस्य॑ लो॒कं स्वऽरा॒रोह॑न्तो अ॒भि नाक॑मुत्त॒मम्॥६॥
ajam anajmi payasā ghṛtena divyaṃ suparṇaṃ payasaṃ bṛhantam tena geṣma sukṛtasya lokaṃ svar ārohanto abhi nākam uttamam
Unborn, I am born with milk and ghee—the celestial great nourishment, the mighty sustenance. By that we shall reach the world of the righteous, ascending to the highest heaven.

पञ्चौ॑दनं प॒ञ्चभि॑र॒ङ्गुलि॑भि॒र्द॑र्व्योद्ध॑र पञ्च॒धैतमो॑द॒नम्। प्राच्यां॑ दि॒शि शिरो॑ अ॒जस्य॑ धेहि॒ दक्षि॑णायां दि॒शि दक्षि॑णं धेहि पा॒र्श्वम्॥७॥
pañcau danaṃ pañcabhir aṅgulibhir darvy oddhara pañcadhaitam odanam prācyāṃ diśi śiro ajasya dhehi dakṣiṇāyāṃ diśi dakṣiṇaṃ dhehi pārśvam
Lift the five-fold rice-cake with the five fingers; lift this oblation in five parts. Place the goat’s head in the eastern direction; in the southern direction place its right side.

प्र॒तीच्यां॑ दि॒शि भ॒सद॒मस्य धेह्युत्त॑रस्यां दि॒श्युत्त॑रं धेहि पा॒र्श्वम्। ऊ॒र्ध्वायां॑ दि॒श्य॑१जस्यानू॑कं धेहि दि॒शि ध्रु॒वायां॑ धेहि पाज॒स्यऽम॒न्तरि॑क्षे मध्य॒तो मध्य॑मस्य ॥८॥
pratīcyāṃ diśi bhasadamasya dehy uttarasyāṃ diśy uttaraṃ dhehi pārśvam ūrdhvāyāṃ diśy ajasyānūkaṃ dhehi diśi dhruvāyāṃ dhehi pājasy amantarikṣe madhyato madhyamasya
In the western direction place its back; in the northern direction place its left side. Upward place the hair-crest of the goat; in the fixed direction place the brow; in the midspace, at the center, the middle part.

शृ॒तम॒जं शृ॒तया॒ प्रोर्णु॑हि त्व॒चा सर्वै॒रङ्गैः॒ संभृ॑तं वि॒श्वरू॑पम्। स उत् ति॑ष्ठे॒तो अ॒भि नाक॑मुत्त॒मं प॒द्भिश्च॒तुर्भिः॒ प्रति॑ तिष्ठ दि॒क्षु॥९॥
śṛtam ajaṃ śṛtayā pro ṇuhi tvacā sarvair aṅgaiḥ saṃbhṛtaṃ viśvarūpam sa ut tiṣṭheto abhi nākam uttamaṃ padbhiś caturbhiḥ prati tiṣṭha dikṣu
Cover the cooked goat with cooked hide, fashioned with all its limbs, of manifold form. Let him then rise toward the highest heaven, and with his four feet stand firm in the quarters.
